Innovation and Internet sophistication heralded the success of EuroPerioEuroPerio 7

EuroPerio 7 introduced many new features, which were warmly welcomed:

The Ambassador Programme was launched. An Ambassador Committee has been set up consisting of 23 ambitious young colleagues nominated and fully supported by their respective EFP member national society. Chair of the committee, Corinna Bruckmann, from Austria. They were committed to raising the recognition of EuroPerio 7 as the World Leading Conference in Periodontology and were responsible for the advertising and promotion of EuroPerio in theirhome country. The Ambassadors played an active role by chairing some of the free sessions and representing their countries throughout the congress.

The EFP Village was a new concept introduced to play the role of gathering community members of the National Societies and providing information about their Society and the Federation. All information from the National Societies was digitally available on iPads. Within the EFP Village there were 26 stands from which Society members and staff welcomed visitors and, in a very friendly atmosphere, encouraged networking amongst all attendees. This very successful initiative will again be implemented at EuroPerio 8 in London.

Cell-to-Cell Communication – Inflammatory Reactions. Visualizing the invisible while experiencing a fascination with science!

The world premier of this new technology took place at EuroPerio 77. This spectacularly sophisticated computer animation in HD quality depicted the highly complex process of intercellular interaction during an inflammatory periodontal reaction. The various cell types constituted the main “cast” of the film, using a finely tuned communication process in their quest to destroy the bacterial invaders, with messenger molecules as the “supporting cast”. This was indeed a stunning didactic and dramatic experi-ence. Congratulations go to the authors: B. Stadlinger , H. Terheyden, the Advisory Board: D. Cochran, J. Meyle, P. Preshaw and M. Sanz, publisher Production: Quintessence Publishing / iAS and Cooperating Partners: Colgate / GABA.

EuroPerio 7 Conference App. The complimentary EuroPerio 7 Conference App was online in advance. It was

available for iPhone, iPad, Android and as a mobile website, enabling delegates to

select sessions to attend and access a personalized EuroPerio 7 programme.

ÖGP Charity runThe ÖGP charity run/walk took place on Saturday morning in the Prater Park area, close to the conference venue. Charity donations of 15.00 per head were collected prior to commencement. All donations were given to "neunerHaus", an institution, which provides shelter as well as medical and dental care to home-less people. More than 1.000 needy people are already being treated in the neunerHaus dental practice. This could not have been possible without this valuable assistance. A great number of delegates participated amidst a feeling of comradeship and charity. Each person who finished the course received a medal at the finish line. Three trophies were also presented, one for each of the three age categories assigned for the event. The OGP Charity run/walk was generously sponsored by Planmeca.

Comments on EuroPerio 77 from Oral-B / P&G

EMEA Professional & Scientific Relations Oral Care /Procter & Gamble

First of all, allow me to congratulate you, the EFP Board and the Organizing Committee for the excellent execution of the EuroPerio 7 event in Vienna. From day one, when we opened our booth in the registration area, until Saturday, when the last attendees left the exhibition hall and the congress centre, we experienced a vibrant congress. The exhibition hall was large enough to give space to the exhibitors, the scientific sessions were planned in such a way that there was enough time left for visits of the booths of the partners, and the logistics for the sponsored symposia worked perfectly. It was a nice experience also for us, our co-workers and our agency partners. Not only from the number of participants, but also their high level of scientific background and eagerness to learn, made this event for us a highly valuable effort. We came to EuroPerio 7 to share our science and educational programs, and surely achieved our goals in terms of numbers of professionals visiting our booths and attendees in the symposia we sponsored. The EuroPerio congress is an ideal platform for interaction with the key periodontists and building the scien-tific and educational equity that we want our brand Oral-B to have with the dental community at large. Thanks for helping us reach this through the EFP and its programs.

We also greatly enjoyed the gala-dinner in the Orangerie of Schloss Schonbrunn: food was excellent, performances great, environment fantastic and… it provided us with another platform for re-building relationships with the key leaders in periodontology from around the globe.

We are very proud to be a longstanding partner of EFP and are looking forward to the next EuroPerio 8 in London and other EFP activities we can build together.

Eight finalists of this prestigious research award, a first of its type for Johnson & Johnson Consumer Services EAME Limited and partner of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), were projected into the lime-light when they were short- listed to give their virtual presentations at EuroPerio 7 (Vienna, June 6-9, 2012). The presentations were made remotely via an internet link using cutting-edge technology and broadcast from multiple global locations, including India, Italy, Greece and the United States of America. The competition was open to Institutions represented by their researchers who were unable to attend the meeting in person. The award also gave the winning Institution an opportunity to secure financial support towards travel costs for their researchers to present their research in person at EuroPerio 8, London, June 3-6, 2015.

All submitted abstracts were independently assessed by three judges chosen by the EFP – Professor Dr. Dr. Soren Jepsen, Director and Chairman of the Department of Periodontology, Operative and Preventive Dentistry, University of Bonn, Germany, Professor Dr. Moshe Goldstein, Faculty of Dental Medicine Hebrew University, Hadassah Dental School, Israel and Professor Dr. Phoebus Madianos, Professor of Periodontology, Department of Periodontology, Athens, Greece. The three EFP judges selected the eight finalists and then went on to listen, discuss and deliberate on their presentations which were made over two days via live link. After deliberation and agreement by the EFP judges all eight participants were brought together on screen in real time and the winner of the award was announced to them live.

The winning Institution was the FACULTY OF DENTAL SCIENCES, SRI RAMACHANDRA UNIVERSITY, DEPARTMENT OF PERIODONTOLOGY, CHENNAI, INDIA, represented by Prof. Dr. Dr. Ranga Rao Suresh, for his virtual presentation “An interventional study on the efficacy of non-surgical mechanical periodontal therapy on Advanced Oxidation Protein Products (AOPPs) and glyce-mic levels in uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with chronic periodontitis”.

Professor Moshe Goldstein offering congratulations to Professor Suresh said; “As EFP President and Chairman of the panel of the Johnson & Johnson virtual award session, I am very pleased to congratulate you for an outstanding presentation. DENTAID, a multi-national company specialising in oral health, made its presence at the EuroPerio 77 . For DENTAID, being part of Europe’s leading congress on periodontology was a great opportunity to transmit the company’s science and research to Vienna, the hub of the Periodontology industry during June 6-9. This professional backdrop also promoted collaboration and synergy with new mar-kets, helping to expand international borders, the key to DENTAID’s corporate growth.

DENTAID, Gold Sponsor and Partner of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), had the opportunity to reveal the results of scientific research carried out by the company’s R&D+i team

through a scientific lecture. The scientific study focused on “Application of an Artificial Mouth Flow Model for Evaluating Mouth Rinses” with the objective of characterising a flow model for the in vitro formation of oral bacterial biofilms, and applying the model to test antiseptic mouthwashes to prove their effectiveness on the developed biofilms. In an interview prior to the celebration of EuroPerio’s seventh edition, Dr. Vanessa Blanc, Director of the Microbiology Department at DENTAID, described the fundamentals of the company’s scientific focus as well as the main points of her lecture: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxYjnJf-Uvs&list=UULT4ol-m-0yIJWopP7Xus1g&index=5&feature=plpp_video

Along these same lines, a scientific poster on recent research was also presented. Dr. Gerard Àlvarez, Microbiologist of DENTAID’s Microbiology Department, personally disclosed the results of the “Use of Propidium Monoazide (PMA) for Quantification of Live and Dead Cells in Multispecies Oral Biofilms”. Additionally, over the four day course of the EuroPerio, DENTAID carried out extensive 2.0 coverage. We wanted to share the different actions that the company conducted from their trade booth to present new product launches including VITIS implant® e Interprox®, as well as that of other oral health products. Once the congress was over, we gathered all of the information that was spread throughout the differ-ent platforms, creating a storify about DENTAID’s journey through the EuroPerio 7 . http://sfy.co/i0G9
