Disciples Needed
The greatest issue facing the world today, with all its heartbreaking
needs, is whether those who, by profession or culture, are identi-
fied as “Christians” will become disciples — students, apprentices,
practitioners — of Jesus Christ, steadily learning from him how to
live the life of the kingdom of the heavens into every corner of hu-
man existence.
—Dallas Willard, The Great Omission
Go Wild as a Volunteer at VBS!
Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a
fun-filled week focused on
learning about God’s love
through Jesus Christ for chil-
dren ages 3 (and potty-trained)
through 5th grade. This year’s
VBS will be held on Monday,
July 22 through Friday, July 26,
2019 from 9am to 12pm.
We are excited to share that
our VBS for 2019 is Roar! At Roar VBS, kids discover that even
though life gets wild, God is good. Roar is filled with incredible Bi-
ble-learning experiences kids see, hear, touch and even taste! In
addition, children will learn how to see the evidence of God in eve-
ryday life and help with a hands on mission project to give back-
packs full of school supplies to local children in need.
Go wild as a volunteer at Roar VBS:
VBS decoration and setup will be July 20 at 10am (lunch will be
provide). It takes many hand to get the stage and each VBS
station set up and ready to go.
During the week of VBS we are always in need of helping
hands. Station leaders help to lead children to successfully
complete their activity for that station as described in the lead-
er manuals. Stations include Pre-school, Art, Bible Adventures,
Games, Kitchen and Mission Project. Station leaders will need
to spend the full 3hrs at VBS.
Only have a few hours to give? That’s fine! We could always
use help taking pictures, serving snack, and setting or cleaning
up.
VBS cleanup will be Friday July 26th immediately following
VBS. As per tradition the ice cream truck will be making a visit
to serve all of our volunteers a special treat of their choice.
If you would like to have a roarin’ good time as a VBS volunteer
please contact Katie Curtin.

Thank you for supporting
our youth!
What a fun and exciting month April was! FUMC egg hunt was a success and each child
was filled with so much joy. Thank you to everyone who participated in making the egg
hunt a triumph! After taking a break to learn about Easter, K-2 will return to Godly Play
lessons and 3-5th will finish learning about the Fruit of the Spirit. Senior and Junior high
will be finishing up the lessons on Ancestors of the Bible. As our children wrap up their
school year we too have a few events this month that mark the ending of both the
school and Sunday school year.
Mark your calendars!
May 5 Teacher Appreciation— During 9:30am service at the end children’s time, our
amazing Sunday school teachers will be recognized. If you have taught this year please
make sure you come and join us this Sunday.
May 18 Parents Night Out 5:30-8:30— Parents night out is a Free service hosted by
some of the grandparents in our congregation. During this time parents are invited to
drop their children off and go have some grown up time. The children will be served
dinner and will participate in games and crafts.
May 19 Graduation Sunday— Join us this Sunday as we celebrate the middle school,
high school and college graduates. The CFYM team will be hosting a breakfast in the
morning for the graduates and their families. If your child falls into one of these gradu-
ate categories please contact Katie Curtin.
May 19 Prayer Partner Activity— Join your prayer partner in your last activity of the
season together! Prayer partner activities will begin again in September. Even if your
prayer partner does not show up, please stick around; there is always someone to be
paired up with. This activity will take place in room 3 following the 9:30am service.
Vacation Bible School— Mark your calendars for this fun event! This year's theme is
“Roar!” As always, the week will be full of faith, friendship and fun. We hope to see you
there!
Can You Help?
Do you have a Child That Can Acolyte? If you have a child that is second grade or up
who would love a chance to acolyte, please contact Katie Curtin to get them started.
Parents Night Out— We need some extra volunteers to help provide child care one
Saturday a month for three hours. During this time, you along with the other volunteers
would help serve dinner and create crafts with the kids. It truly is a good time for all. If
this is something you are interested in, please contact Katie Curtin.
Summer School Teachers Needed— As many of you know, we like to give our hard-
working regular teachers some time off during the summer. If teaching a Sunday school
class is something that has interested you now is your chance to give it a try! The CFYM
board has worked hard at creating an easy to teach program that you will be successful
at executing. Look for the signup sheet at the get connected table to sign up for the
Sunday that works best for you.

In Memory
We give thanks to God for the lives of Henry Jordan, Lyle Davis, and
John Jones who passed away on February 22, March 30 , and April
3 respectively. A memorial service for Lyle Davis is scheduled for
Saturday, May 11 at 1pm at Foothills UMC. May God continue to
hold their loved ones in care as they mourn their loss.
Welcome!
We had the opportunity to welcome Doug and Pat Olson into mem-
bership on Sunday, April 28 during our 9:30 worship service. Prior
to being at Foothills UMC, they were members at Lake Merritt UMC
in Oakland and the First United Methodist Church of Hayward.
Third Grade Bibles
Foothills UMC has a tradition of giving bibles to all children in the
spring of their third- grade year. This year, Preston Curtin and Ai-
dan Nalley were excited to receive their special bibles from their
Foothills UMC family.
Communion Stewards
For several years, Bill and Roxie Tolbert have faithfully served as
Communion Stewards making sure that the supplies for Commun-
ion were on hand as well as preparing the Communion Table on
Communion Sundays and at other special times throughout the
year. As the Tolberts prepare to move out of the area, we are in
need of a volunteer or two that would be willing to take on this
special responsibility in the life of our congregation. Please let Pas-
tor Mike know if you are interested and he will be happy to give
you additional information about what is involved.
On the Move
Our friends Larry Arnett, Patty Devitt Snyder, and Carolyn Howell
have all recently moved into new care facilities. Please contact our
Office Administrator, if you’d like their new contact information.
Let us also hold these friends and their loved ones in prayer as they
adjust to these transitions.

Transitions
To our Foothills family,
We, Thomas and Emily, have decided to leave Foothills UMC as we
continue on with our spiritual journey. It is important for all of you
to know we love and care for you deeply and want you all to con-
tinue to be part of our lives. We will just be worshipping at another
church as our spiritual journey continues here on earth. You have
given us much love and support over the last 16 years which we
hold dear to our hearts and we will never forget it. The day we
walked through Foothills doors we were immediately loved and
accepted by you all. You will continue to see us as we are not mov-
ing away and hopefully you will be in our home for games, friend-
ship, support and love.
Be well, love one another and most importantly stay close to God
through Jesus Christ,
-Thomas and Emily Harris
Like many of you, I am deeply grateful to Emily and Thomas for
their years of servant leadership among us. They have been a
source of comfort and support to many in our congregation during
times of loss and hardship, and many of you have been faithfully
there for them over the past several years in the midst of their own
hardships. As they move into this next chapter in their spiritual
journey, let us hold them in prayer. May they find a community
that will both comfort, and continue to challenge them, in the way
of Jesus. -Pastor Mike

2019 Easter Offering
To date we have collected over $2,500 in donations to our special Easter Offering, designat-
ed to The Trevor Project and their ongoing work dedicated to crisis intervention and suicide
prevention among LGBTQ young people. Thank you for your generosity!
Thank You!
Our Administrative Support Team is so appreciative to everyone
who came out on Saturday, April 13 for our spring-cleaning work
party. The scout troop and parents were out in full force tidying up
outside and we had a wonderful number of congregational volun-
teers tackling jobs in the main building. In addition the AST is
grateful to the Doorkeepers men’s group, under the leadership of
Carl Jessen, for getting all of the new window coverings installed in
the education building; and to Heather Linsley for ordering all of
the materials.
UMCOR Sunday Offering
We were able to donate over $2,800 to the United Methodist Committee on Relief offering
this year! Local congregational support of this annual offering goes toward funding the ad-
ministrative expenses of the organization, which is what makes it possible for 100% of disas-
ter relief donations to UMCOR to go directly to relief efforts. Thank you for your generosity
and support!
Carpet Cleaning
Carpet Cleaning- The carpet in the sanctuary and fellowship area
are being professionally cleaned on Wednesday, May 8. Thank you
to our Men's Group and United Methodist Women for sharing the
cost of this annual cleaning once again. Help is needed to remove
furniture and chairs at 8am on Wednesday and to put everything
back at 5pm that evening. If you can lend a hand it would be ap-
preciated.

UMW Annual Fall Retreat
Wising Up Wherever Life Happens
Friday-Sunday, September 13-15
Zephyr Cove, Tahoe
Cost $189
Presenter: Suki Kisling
We are excited to have Suki Kisling join us for our Fall retreat. Suki
was well received during our Mini retreat we are looking forward
to getting to know her better as she guides us through this retreat.
“Wising Up Wherever Life Happens - Session One: A Wise Friend,
Session Two: A Call to Wise Up, Session Three: The Heart of Wis-
dom". We have also scheduled in time to relax, make a craft and
much more.
Ladies, we know the payment of $189 can be a big sum paid all at
once, so how about putting a $40 deposit down now, and pay $40
a month for 4 months? Scholarships are also available. Transporta-
tion can be arranged for those needing it. The facility is handicap
accessible. The surroundings are amazing! God is everywhere is
this place. This retreat is a time to unplug, recharge and re-center.
I hope you will make an effort to attend; it is worth it. Tonja
