in effectively providing psychosocial

interventions during disaster crisis

situations, the College of Liberal Art’s

Psychology Department organized a three-

day workshop on psychosocial intervention

during the first quarter of the year.

The workshop dubbed as “Dumating Man

ang Unos: Enabling Psychologists as

Psychosocial Service Providers in Disasters

and Crisis Settings” was developed by the

Psychology Department in response to the

increasing need for psychosocial work.

Topics covered during the workshop

included contexts of disaster and crisis

situations, first-

hand information

dissemination, and

grassroots models

of psychosocial

interventions.

Participants could

seek hands-on

training through

planned projects to

be provided by Lyra

Verzosa, the workshop

facilitator, when the need arises.

Verzosa of the Center for Emergency Aid

and Rehabilitation (CONCERN) is a career

psychosocial service provider who has

dealt with survivors of disasters and crisis

situations such as floods, fire-outbreaks,

landslides, torture, and armed conflict in

different areas of the Philippines. Guest

speakers were also on hand to share their

experiences.

There will be a second run of the training

workshop. Interested parties can inquire

through email at [email protected].

Redesigning Pedagogy Conference with

the theme, “Transform Teaching, Inspiring

Learning” organized by the National

Institute of Singapore last May 30-June 1

in Singapore.

Former Dean of Student Affairs Voltaire

Mistades presented the URCO-funded

research, “Transforming Students’

Attitudes Toward Learning Physics in

the Lasallian Pedagogical Framework.”

Other members of the research team are

Br. Joseph Scheiter FSC, Ronald delos

Reyes, and undergraduate student Anna

Melissa Dalagan.

The research looked into how the

attitudes of students towards learning

Physics changed as a result of their G.E.

Introductory Physics course. The study

has shown that it is possible to move

our students from a novice-like view of

learning Physics towards an expert-like

view.

DLSU. Its goal is to inform readers of the

University’s contributions to national and

international development in the 20th

century.

Funded by DLSU’s University Research

Coordinating Office, the Centennial Set

consists primarily of books recounting

the history of DLSU and books

summarizing in non-specialist language

some of the research projects in the

University.

Two books were not included in the

Centennial Set because of their size:

Names and Faces of People: Collected

Stories, by Vic H. Groyon Jr., published

by C&E Publishing, and Lasang Lasallian,

edited by Nonon Villaluz Carandang and

Rakki E. Sison-Buban, published by

Central Book Supply.

The Centennial Set is the latest product

of the innovative business model adapted

by DLSU to publish books. Realizing that

its core competency is doing research

and not marketing nor selling books,

DLSU formed a consortium of the leading

commercial publishers in the country and

now publishes academic books through

them.

The collection was presented by DLSU

Academic Publications Office Executive

Publisher Dr. Isagani Cruz.

The Centennial Set is available for

P21,000. For more details and inquiries,

please email acadpublications@gmail.

in a move to make the University’s

e-mail and calendar systems more efficient

and streamlined, DLSU has chosen Google

Apps as its new platform. The change

looks to lower infrastructure and support

costs while providing innovative

solutions that can be accessed

anywhere, anytime with an Internet

connection.

Included in Google Apps

are the following services: Google Mail,

Google Calendar, Google Talk, Google

Docs, Google Sites, and Google Video.

Key benefits in using Google Apps include

an increased storage capacity up to 25GB,

enhanced e-mail organization and retrieval,

easier calendar sharing, integrated chat,

real-time document collaboration, easy-to-

build team web sites, and video sharing.

Students may access their Google-

powered e-mail at mail.dlsu.ph and

log-in with their My.LaSalle account ID and
