Hello everyone,

Hunting season has arrived, I hope everyone is prepared. I also hope everyone has had or will soon enjoy a little "woods" time. Not only does fall bring hunting, it brings a lot of activities around the club. As everyone knows, the "haunted Forest" is in full construction mode as I write this. With any luck the weather will hold out and this year's event will be another success. Our "Haunted Forest" runs two weekends this year. Both weeks are Thursday, Friday and Saturday. October 16, 17 and 18 the first week and October 23, 24 and 25th the second week.

If there is anyone that feels that they need to scare the begeezus out of people, please contact me for a date with the Ghouls and Goblins. It takes about 65-70 volunteers every night to make this event really successful. I have already been out in the woods making sure that my pet Bats have not been fed. They get really blood thirsty when I don't feed them. I am also positive that the Haunted Forest crew will have many surprises in store for everyone to SCREAM about!

The kid’s party is on October 25th this year. We also will have an extra hay wagon around for that party. We haven't had a hay ride for the kids in several years so it will be a little added extra this time. As usual there will be dancing and "Trick or Treating" and pumpkins. Larry Cohorst, his family and myself, have over the years, made this the biggest kids party of the year. The "Family Events" committee works very hard on these parties for the members and guests enjoyment.

Dave Leonard #354 got his first Black Bear on September 11th in the western U.P. Weighing in at about 225 pounds, it isn’t the biggest bear around, but he sure is tasty! Who wants to go next time?

The Junior Shotgun Tournaments have ended for the year. Our last shoot was held at North Macomb Sportsmen's Club, September 14th. We are finding out of more shoots that are of little or no charge to juniors!

In November, the Jr. Shotgun Traveling League is scheduled to start. Shooting is once per month at a local club. Finishing in May with a fun shoot and banquet.

We are still shooting Trap and Skeet year round. Sporting Clays should resume in the spring with more daylight.

Any youngster that wishes to try junior shotgun out, are of course welcome. Parents do not need to be members (But they are of course encouraged to join!).

Our ranks are thinning out as some of our older shooters graduate High School. So could your son, daughter, niece, nephew or neighbor be the next team anchor? Of course they can!! Bring them out on the 1st, 2nd or 4th Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm for a few hours.

President’s Report: Charley thanked everyone for helping out with Good Old Days. He will be running the Haunted Forest and need help. Sign up sheet will be on the bulletin board.

Vice President’s Report: Motion to approve dates as of 7/2/2014. Eric Manning #291/Cal Kittinger #1367 Motion Carried. Motion to approve dates for 2015 ATA Shoots. Glenn Kruckenberg #180/Jeff Parker #82 Motion Carried.

Pete Cesaro: He states that there are now 140 members who are delinquent in paying their dues and are no longer considered members. Of these members, 74 are working members. Pete is going to call them to find out reasons for not paying the dues and stated that he believes that some can’t devout the time to club. There are 40 conditional members that at the September 13th new members meeting. He is working on the Recruiting Magazine that will inform new members about the club. He stated that 2 members from the new member committee need to sign new member application and why couldn’t it be 2 members of good standing. Discussion followed. Doc Johnson and Dick Newton are working on a new member handbook. He suggested to have a new member picnic to introduce them to the club. Dan Peltier suggest a club day for all members. Good Old Days at the Skeet and Trap attendance was doubled from last year.

Barry Anderson: Gun A Week Tickets are available for purchase. Event for special needs children will be held on Thursday, September 25th will have Archery, Slingshot and Fishing from 9AM to 1PM, need Volunteers. He is looking into HVAC unit for the bar and received quote for $14,840 including ductwork. It is a 10 ton unit. He is going to receive estimates for the monthly savings and rebate form MichCon and DTE.

Dave Fisher: Need to buy Gun A Week Tickets now. 900 already gone and the remainder are usually gone by January.

People partying outside the tent at the Good Old Days, maybe have locked gate at next year’s event, everyone should support the club. The attendance was down a little this year, but still believe will be near the same profit as last year. Please come out and support these events, Haunted Forest needs volunteers.There will be some changes in how things are being done at the bar, please do not take it out on the bar maids. Please watch language at the bar and have appropriate discussions at general meeting.

Charles Hughes: There will be new and improved initiatives from the new member committee. There are nine members on the committee to assist new members. He reached out to the other chairpersons for their assistance.

Eric Manning: It is nomination time and in October the nominations will be closed. He has received one application.

He asked for nominations.

Chairmen’s Meeting Minutes – September 3rd, 2014

Bill Petrere, There are 2 registered shoots for ATA on September 13 & 20. For the Fall 400 shoot on September 20 he is sending out 180 postcards to ATA members. There is a shoot in Mason where the clubs will compare the dates of their scheduled shoots to ensure there are no conflicting dates. Bill stated that the gate at Skeet and Trap needs repair as well as the grass needs to be cut and branches trimmed on oak tree. He stated that per the ATA rules the trap houses need to be free from any dirt piles, the entire house needs to be visible to the shooters.

Glenn Kruckenberg: September Texas Hold’em everything at a standstill due to new rules.

Rich LaFave Sr.: Can-Do Needs donations of nonperishable items. Now accepting personal hygiene items like deodorant.

Dan Peltier: Mixed Euchre league starts on Monday.

Cal Kittinger: NRA Friends dinner: the club usually sponsors a gun to be raffled at the dinner and it turns out to be profitable for the club. It hasn’t been approved for this year yet and dinner this month. Charley Stevens to present to Board, he will send out emails to the board members to give them the heads up before the meeting next week. Cal stated that his request and Charley’s approval of Michele Chiesa as Co-Chairman for NRA Women On Target was not in last month’s Board Meeting Minutes. Charley Stevens stated that the omission will be amended in this month’s Board Meeting Minutes.

Annie Barbara: Thanked everyone who helped out at Good Old Days. The Woman On Target event scheduled on October 11 still has openings. Cal stated that next year he will be stepping back from the Woman On Target and allowing the Co-Chairman to take on majority of the responsibilities.

Andy Lynch: He brought up for discussion the NRA Safety Officer Certification that the range officers can volunteer to participate in. The initial fee is $42 and good for one year. It is not required to remain a range officer at the club. Discussion Followed. Andy also challenged the chairman to donate to Can-Do, he took a collection and it was given to Rich LaFave.

John Miller: He stated that the NRA Safety Officer Certification will be listed on the NRA Website. The Pin shoot is only three months away. The second squirrel match at the Big Bore Range will be Saturday, September 6th at 9a.m.

~ Letters ~ Eyes to the Future

As my board term rapidly draws to a close, I think I should share a few thoughts and ideas with you. First, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent you for the last three years; it has been an honor and a wonderful experience.

As you should know, the club is facing some very challenging issues, most of them revolving around a declining membership and all that that entails. That is why earlier this year I was intent on running for Membership Chairman. Nothing seemed to be changing and it looked like a lot of the same, but thankfully that is no longer the case. Our chairman has become extremely proactive. Pete has developed a workable plan and formed a large committee. Pete has put in his heart and soul and countless hours into membership and I believe we should all support his commendable efforts. The old adage of a house divided applies perfectly here.

I have given Pete a few ideas that I would like to see pursued. Some address the number one complaint that I hear: “What is the advantage of being a member?” Other ideas speak to making our club more family friendly. Happy wife applies here! In no particular order. 1. All members when they join or renew should get a consistent discount across the board: fish fries, Country Breakfast,

range fees, etc. It should be a percentage so we do not have to revisit it in the future. (An old idea, but one that needs to happen very soon.)

2. All members when they join or renew should get a coupon for a free round of shooting on each of our ranges, but only if they bring a paying guest. The cost to the club would be negligible and the benefits enormous.

3. There should be membership pins given to members every five years. They should be different colors denoting their years of service. This would encourage members to reach those five-year marks and would be a source of pride.

4. When you sponsor a new member, and he or she renews the following year, you should have your name put in a drawing for a very substantial prize. You would then have some “ skin in the game” and be proactive in making sure your new member follows through in his or her commitment. Each new member is potentially worth thousands to the club, and your sponsored member should be worth a bunch to you. Board members and officers would not be eligible.

5. Work bees should be on Saturday. Sundays are family days for many members, and many spouses resent the club for the intrusion.

6. Work Bees should be renamed Club Days. What would you rather do, show up for a Work Bee, or participate in Club Day? Hours could be changed to club credits. Words do matter in how we are perceived and how we perceive ourselves.

7. We should computerize meeting attendance to allow us to identify disenchanted members and reach out to them. 8. There are many other issues we need to address and most are being studied aggressively. Change is always hard, but the membership has already shown it is willing to change, and that is very encouraging.

There is always intrinsic value in being a member. For me it is the friendships and knowing I am part of a club that promotes our way of life. Multi-Lakes is the very embodiment of what it means to be free. It is a vital part of our community, our state, and our nation. Board of Directors Meeting Minutes – September 10th, 2014 Glenn Kruckenberg called the meeting to order at 7:30p.m. Glenn led the Board in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Conservation Pledge. President’s Report: Motion to sponsor a table at the Friends of the NRA dinner. Cost of the sponsorship $2500.00. Discussion Followed. Motion Carried. Charley thanked everyone who helped out at Good Old Days. There is an ATA Shoot this Saturday from 10 am to 4p.m. He and Dave Behme are putting together a book containing a plan for the Haunted Forest. Building starts this Saturday and they need help. Charley asked to amend last month’s minutes to include his approval of Michele Chiesa as Co-Chairman of NRA Women On Target. It was omitted last month in error as stated by Cal Kittinger at the Chairman’s Meeting.

Membership Secretary: 141 members are leaving the club. Pete is going to call each of the members to find out the reason for their leaving. The members he has spoken with stated their reason for leaving was that they could not devote the time to the club. Pete stated that it currently takes two members of the Membership Committee to approve new member’s applications. He requested that the bylaws be changed to state that any two members of the club in good standing could sign the applications. Motion to approve New Membership Committee as read by Pete Cesaro. Charley Stevens #1325/Marshall Maybrier #162. Motion Passes. Pete stated Lynn told him about someone using a metal detector at the ball field. He asked them to leave but stated they were given permission. He suggested that is someone who is not a member is given permission to come on the club grounds they should sign in at the bar.

The Oakley Park Elementary school is having a fundraiser and the school wants to give goody bag to them. Gabrielle who is working on marketing plan suggested that a good marketing strategy would be to give coupon for Fish Fry or Breakfast to be put into kid’s goody bag. Motion for 200 coupons to be given for the goody bags. Pete Cesaro #120/Andy Lynch #183. Discussion followed. Harvey Cooper proposed to amend to have 100 Fish Fry

coupons and 100 Country Breakfast coupons. 2nd by Marty Zaremba. Andy Lynch suggested to put on it’s either for a Fish Fry or Country Breakfast. Pete said there would be a deadline on ticket. In Favor 6, Opposed 2, Amendment Passes. Charley suggested 60 days. Pete stated they would start on the 26th. Chris Peltier suggested giving them until the end of the year. Tickets will be numbered and say only student on them. Charley suggested different color for tickets. Amendment: Extend to end of year, December 31, 2014 and Kids must be accompanied by an adult. Motion Passes.

Treasurers Report: The profit for Good Old Days should be the same as last year. Jim passed out the August 2014 Treasurer’s Report. Motion to receive Treasurer’s Report. Rich Johnson #186/Charley Stevens #1325. Motion Passes. Harvey Cooper asked if taxes have been paid. Jim stated they would be paid the following Monday. Misprint of the Michigan Liquor License check on the Treasurers report will be corrected next month. New regulations for Texas Hold’em and Bingo will hurt the profit for the Club; we need Haunted Forest to be successful. Slingshot to start soon and need information about it. Suggested to increase $1 for nonmembers. Dave Fisher to send email to get information.

Operations Manager Report: A sheet was handed out showing the financial report broken down for each area at Good Old Days. The amount of tickets handed out for workers didn’t workout to the amount that worker’s should have been given. Discussion Followed. Need to have one person in charge of handing out tickets to the workers at Good Old Days. Sam Miyamoto, who donates Gatling gun and ammo for Good Old Days is Honorary Member and would like to give him a hat or coat.

John Lash said that there were golf carts and ATVs from outside club riding around at Good Old Days. He is concerned about the liability this could cause the club. He suggested putting up a pavilion instead of having a tent every year. Have new rides that are more up to date for kids. Dave stated that the Texas Hold’em is still on hold due to pending government regulations. We are advertising our events in the West End Magazine that is same price as Spinal Column and has had a better return on the investment.

Dave Fisher and Charley Stevens went to Raffle Ticket/Bingo Training in Livonia detailing the new requirements implemented by the government which include the completion of forms the same night as an event. Discussion Followed concerning the changes that will take place in October and the extra help that will be needed to complete the requirements. Dave suggested that there should be a separate bank account for the raffle tickets. Motion to open a new Raffle Bank Account Charley Stevens #1325/Rich Johnson #186 Motion Passes.

Old Business Harvey Cooper stated that camping seemed down this year at Good Old Days. Is the camping fee too high? Discussion Followed. Dave Fisher stated that all campers had a permit.

New Business Dave Fisher presented a quote for changing out HVAC unit in Bar. Air conditioning works and heat doesn’t. Need 10 ton unit, currently have 15 ton unit. The person who gave quote discovered that registers above bar were not hooked up correctly. The quote is for $14,840 plus community permit costs. $215 covers parts and labor for 5 years. Dave stated the permits should be a couple hundred dollars. The person who gave quote came highly recommended from members. Dave recommended we use the line of credit to pay for the unit. Motion to accept quote for $14,840 plus permit costs and $215 parts and labor costs for 5 years to be financed by the line of credit. People are dumping garbage into the fire pits. Motion to get sign: “No Dumping, Violators will be Prosecuted”. Doc Johnson #186/Charley Stevens #1325. Motion Passes. Bring up the dumping issue at meeting night.

Charley stated that Archery needs more room to store Kids Archery equipment. There is room behind targets in range house in an extra closet. Charley would like to offer it to them.

Harvey Cooper asked about GoPro Certificates that were supposed to be given at Archery Banquet that has already taken place. They have not received them; Charley Stevens said that he would look into it.

MLCA President, Charlie Stevens, called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. He led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Conservation Pledge. He welcomed the new members and acknowledged the Past Presidents in attendance: Pete Cesaro Sr., Dave Fisher, Dan Peltier, Jim Kirn, Sam Mullins and Russ DeVriendt.

He stated that there are two nurses present available to give flu shots with completed paperwork.

President’s Report: Charlie Stevens stated that building of Haunted Forest will start this Saturday, September 20th. There is a book to sign up to work on the Haunted Forest. The final ATA Shoot of the season is this Saturday. Charlie and Dave Fisher attended a Charitable Gaming meeting held by the state in Berkley on September 10th. They received information concerning the new regulations for Bingo and Raffles. The Governor is trying to make charitable gaming go away. October is Can-Do month; you can bring food or monetary donations to the club. There is a bucket in the bar for food and above it a box for money. There is also the mailbox near the main entrance for monetary donations. The Haunted Forest will collect donations which will provide $1 off the ticket for the event. Slingshot and Bingo also accept donations.

Chaplin’s Report: No Report. Recording Secretary: No Report.

Membership Secretary: Pete Cesaro stated that the club lost 99 members who haven't paid their dues. He is going to call each one to find out why they have left the club. He stated that most members he has spoken to left the club because they were unable to devote time to the club. There was nothing stated that was negative about the club. There will be a Potluck in the Skeet & Trap House on October 18th to discuss the Winter Skeet & Trap league. There will also be a Winter Sporting Clays league. He is working on a new member’s manual and marketing plan to show all there is to do at the club.

Treasurer’s Report: Jim Kirn stated that the Good Old Days event will have approximately the same profit as last year which was $10,000. They needed more volunteers at the event as many volunteers had to stay the entire day. The club needs the Haunted Forest to do well, because we’ve had several large payments for taxes and insurance in the past couple of months. The Daily Raffle sales have been down and they also help contribute to paying for the operations of the club. You can get your tickets at the bar and if you win a check will be mailed to your home.

Early Draw: #215 Donald Delozier III was called. Donald missed out on approximately $130.00

Operations Manager: Dave Fisher thanked everyone who helped out at

Good Old Days. Marty Zaremba has donated 1200 rounds of 22 ammo to the Junior Rifle League. Dave stated that there are still 400 Gun A Week tickets for sale. You need to get them soon, because they sell quickly. At the Board Meeting there was a motion to not allow anymore dumping at fire pit. The fire pit is strictly for the use of the club. There was a rally at Lansing to protest the new Charitable Gaming regulations. Please call your State Representative concerning the Charitable Gaming Bill #SB0878. In October the new electronic Bingo regulations take affect and all the reporting will need to be done on the night of the event. There will be more volunteers needed to complete these reports.

General Membership Meeting Minutes – September 17th, 2014

Vice President’s Report: Chris Peltier stated that we have 138 members, 9 new members and 22 guests with us tonight. Slingshot league starts on September 25th; fee for Members is $5 and $6 for Non-members. There will be a work bee this Sunday at 8AM and will help with Haunted Forest setup. Remember the club nominations are coming up as well as deer hunting and Wild Game dinner donations are needed.

Chairperson’s to Speak: Eric Manning - The nominations will be closed at next meeting. He has 7 to 8 nominations and all but one are for the Board of Directors. John Miller - He stated that the next Squirrel Match will be held October 4th, registration starts at 9AM and the shoot will begin at 10AM. The fee is $10, $5 goes to club and $5 goes toward prizes. You will need a .22LR with scope, 40 round course of fire at 50 yards while standing and sitting. There will also be a side match using iron sights only. There will not be a match in November. The Pin Shoot starts December 7th, bring .22 ammo, if you don’t have a gun you can use his. They also need bowling pins if anyone has any to use for the pin shoots. John Lash - Swap Days on Saturday and Sunday, there will be a lot of rifle and shotguns for sale. It is $1 to get in to attend the event. The fee to have a table is $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers. He needs help after the Friday Fish Fry to set up. Staff will lock up the room after the event on Saturday and there will be security for the items left overnight. Larry Willis - Spoke about how he has been a guide for the Haunted Forest and how much fun it is to volunteer for the event. Adam Rott - Thanked everyone who donated to 3D Archery. He also stated that he and Dawn Muddie were at a competition and the TV show Even the Odds was taping at the event so they may be on the show. This is just one of many competitions where they have represented the club. Anyone who wants to shoot, please contact him. Marty Zaremba - There are two dead trees at Skeet & Trap, two trees by the Archery and 1 big tree on the road. He needs help and equipment to remove. Annie Barbara - Thanked everyone for their help at Good Old Days. David Sturtz - The Friends of the NRA Dinner will be held this Thursday which includes a Roast Beef Dinner. There are a few tickets left at the bar. One of the items that will be there is a Colt .45 match set.

Cal Kittinger - The last special gun raffle of the year is for a

Ruger Stainless Steel .45 ACP with NRA Logo He will be selling 200 tickets at $20 each and the drawing will take place on December 17th. The winner must be able to pass a federal background check. Larry Hutton- The new member badges will be available in 2 weeks. If you want hat pins they will need to be ordered. Pete Cesaro stated that there will be a new name badge board in the bar. The member’s number will be on the back of the badge. Dave Behme - He stated that they need a Co-Chairman for the Haunted Forest. We need people to help build, guide and assist with the event. On October 11 & 12 from 9 to 1, anyone interested in being a guide will be taken around the path. If kids want to be involved please bring them. Please bring ideas to build different areas in the forest and costumes. They will be working every weekend from 9AM to 3PM. They have secured the dance group, Art of Dance from Waterford to perform on each Saturday night. Boy Scout leaders: we need 10 kids to help out. Larry Cohorst - The kids Halloween Party will be held on October 25th from 6PM and go past dark. Kids will go trick or treating, there will be a D.J. and carmel apples. Haunted Forest will also be going on that night so please bring a donation for Can-Do.
