project concerned it was proposed to gofor a single lift.

The following major specif ications:Approach Channel MDDL: 151.45 Mt (510Feet) FSL; Bed level : 147.45 Mt;Approach Channel length: 3 KM; TunnelLength: 1.5 KM; Diameter of Tunnel: 6 Mt;Center line of the pump: 148 Mt; Capacityof the Pumps: 18 MW; Number of Pumps:4 Nos; Height of Lift: 100 Mt.

Various Components of this lift irrigationScheme l ike electr ical equipmenttransformers, transmission lines, auxiliaryequipment, etc., are not discussed here. This is a very unique type of lift schemeerected and commissioned in 2001 andwas the biggest in Asia in those days.Lifting of water in single stage for a heightof 100 Mt is the challenging one. For thisM/s BHEL, Bhopal had designed andsupplied. This part of the work has beentaken up by APGENCO. Shri K PentaReddy, Superintending Engineer hadtaken over the work on behalf ofAPGENCO.

Delivery mains of 3 Mt dia manufacturedwith high tensile steel plates from bottomof the pump house to top level of thecistern level is 247 Mt (FRL).Each pumpcapacity is 600 cusecs i.e. total discharge(4x600 = 2400 cusecs). After f illing thecistern of 0.5 TMC, the water is taken toAkkampally balancing reservoir of 2.5TMC with a link canal of 9 KM length witha carrying capacity of 2400 cusecs waterconducting system. Through this an ayacutof 2.7 Lakh acres in Nalgonda Dist., isbeing irrigated. Apart from this drinkingwater supply to Hyderabad throughkodandapur water supply reservoir. Thisis also a challenge and solution to thedrought affected, f luoride affectedpeople of Nalgonda Dist., and enroute312 Villages. In spite of several challenges, the project was completed andsuccessfully commissioned.
