INSPIRATIONThe idea of flexible plates was intriguing. It led me to look at how a dog drinks water. This “soft” vessel drove the exploration forward.

PROCESSThe form of the main two pieces of the dish set naturally evolved through the model making progress.

FAMILYThe aluminum gives each piece a flow, while the porcelain becomes the “business” end. Once these two elements were defined I was able to apply them to each piece of the family.

ROMANCEThe main event is the cuisine not the vessel. The steps around the rim were established as an abstract on a grandstand; if the piece is social, such as the goblet then the steps face outward. If the piece is personal such as the bowl then the steps face inward.

TOUCH POINTSThe aluminum piece embracing the vessel becomes the point of contact between the user and the object.

MICRO DETAILSEach metal piece has five 1.0mm lines indented in its surface

which will “teach” the user where to touch the piece.

PACKAGINGWhen the packaging is opened, the piece is discovered on a pedestal. The lid then serves both as a vessel for the saucer and as support for the cup.

SENIOR SHOWAs a Senior class we presented a show at Mithun architects in Seattle, WA to showcase our work and celebrate the end of our education as Industrial Design students.
