VOLCANOES UNDERWATER AND ABOVE

THE (NOT REALLY) SCARY EXHIBIT!

• In the exhibit, there is a room where you can experience underwater volcano eruption.

•There are three rocks on display: basalt, granite and a deep rock.

•There is also a screen showing the volcanoes of New Zealand and the islands around it.

HOW VOLCANOES WORK

1) First, magma from a magma chamber creeps up

2) Next, as it comes up, it turns into lava

3) It then spurts lava out violently

4) Other bits of lava or magma have forced their way out the sides

HOW THE UNDERWATER ERUPTION ROOM WORKS

• The room has a normal television and what looks like a door with a screen behind it.

• The normal television starts reporting.

• On the screen a line of steam forms on top of the water.

• The volcano erupts!

• It tells you to be prepared .
