Volcanoes get their name from the island of Vulcano in the Mediterranean sea.

A fiery stream of melted rocked called lava shoots out of a mountain.

INTRODUCTION

This theory is called plate boundaries.

The boundaries around the pacific ocean have many active volcanoes.

Earth formed, crust ,mantle, outer core, inner core.

INSIDE STORY

Volcanoes are mountains that are built from eruptions.

Under pressure , the magma rises and burns through the crust in spots called vents.

VOLCANOES

All volcanoes release gases during eruption.

The speed of these flows can reach 120 miles per hour.

Bombs are large blobs of lava that harden as they spin.

Most volcanoes on the ocean floor do not rise above the surface.

The largest volcanoes are above hot-spots.

The hot spot can create another volcanoes.

OCEAN FLOOR

Mount Fuji in in japan and Mount Shasta are stratovolcanoes.

Cinder cones are another common type of volcano.

TYPES OF VOLCANOES

Mauna Loa’s base is 60 miles long and 30 miles wide.

The island of Hawii is the world’s largest volcano.

SHIELD VOLCANOES

Caldera is the Spanish word for a cauldron, or pot.
