C k James Madison University i Moose Tracks Maddie’s Leadership A message from the Secretary Carly Starke Hello CKI, Hope you are all enjoying your summer and vacations. It’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway done with summer. These summer months are a great way to volunteer in your home area. We spend the school year helping JMU and the local Harrisonburg area, but now it is your chance to benefit your own community. Volunteer at your local SPCA, summer camp, or nursing home. This is a great time to get involved without the stress of work and numerous activities during the school year. Re- member that if you are working on any projects at home send me the informa- tion so we can publicize the event to the club. Also remember to send me any of your summer hours. Hours can include preparation time as well as travel time over 15 minutes. Know any recent Key Club graduates? Have any friends look- ing to get involved in service? Talk to them about the benefits of Circle K In- ternational and the possibility of joining JMU’s CKI this upcoming fall. We look forward to seeing everyone in the fall and keep on the lookout for our first few projects. Enjoy the rest of your summer! Love, Carly Starke “Live to serve. Meet the

Kiwanis Family

K-Kids is a student-led community service club for elementary students that teaches members the value of

helping others through participation in community service projects and club

activities.

Nearly 40, 000 middle and junior high students in 1,300

clubs in 18 nations contribute service to school and community while develop-ing leadership and people skills. Builders

Club members implement practical service-learning principals as they focus on sup-porting organizations that focus on the

needs of children.

Kiwanis was created in 1915. It has over six different

sections that are all connected into the Kiwanis family. To learn

more about the Kiwanis Club of Har-risonburg, visit their website at: http://www.kiwanisclubofharri-

Key Club provides service and leadership opportunities

for high school students. The club is student-led with a teacher advisor.

Helps teenagers find opportunities to serve their communities.

Circle K International (CKI) is the premiere university service or-

ganization in the world sponsored by Kiwanis International. With clubs on more than 550 campuses globally, pro-gramming is based upon the tenets of

service, leadership, and fellowship.

Aktion Club members in more than

200 clubs in seven nations al-low adults living with disabilities

to develop initiative and leadership skills through hands-on service.

These adults return to the commu-nity the benefits, help, and caring

they have received. Kiwanians around the globe

have one common goal: To serve the children of the world. Kiwanis ad-

vocates this vision every day by providing opportunities to serve for every member of a community through Service Leadership Programs. Through these opportunities,

youth and young adults around the world become competent, capable

and compassionate leaders.

Favorite thing about CKI: “My favorite thing is having the opportunity to affect all walks of life and work with so many different people to make a difference in the world.”

Emily got this honor for being active and avaiable during the summer. She also helped out with district projects. Way to go Emily!
