On October 1 1973

the Yuma County

Board of Supervisors

appointed Henry

Gonzales to fill a

vacancy on the Yuma

County Board of

Health The vacancy had been

created by the demise of

Supervisor Ramon Avila (March

12 1910 ndash July 24 1973)

On July 27 1973 a resolution

was read into the official Board of

Supervisors minutes and the first

two paragraphs read ldquoWhereas

the Supreme Architect of the

Universe in His wisdom has taken

from our midst our beloved friend

Ramon Avila County

Supervisor and Whereas by his

retiring and dignified manner

magnificent in public life in all

that makes for true magnificence

but endowed with that

commendable and upright

character which allows for hosts

of friends keenly alert at all times

to the welfare of mankind he has

endeared himself in the hearts of

his fellow manrdquo This is a

beautiful tribute to a man that was

an outstanding leader in civic

affairs and unwaveringly

performed his patriotic duties to

Yuma County and the State of

Arizona

In recognition of his service to the

citizens of Yuma County and out

of respect to the Avila family an

embossed resolution was sent to

Mrs Avila and her son

Board members were Glen H

Strohm (Chairman) and Marion

Beaver
