2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship – presented by Booster Juice Volunteer News | March 2013

Competing in one of the most experienced fields in Brier history, Brad Jacobs of Northern Ontario defeated Manitoba’s Jeff Stoughton in the championship final to earn the right to wear Canada’s colours in Victoria, British Columbia at the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship, presented by Booster Juice, March 30th-April 7th in the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

Jacobs came out on top of the 3 vs. 4 Page playoff, facing Brad Gushue of Newfoundland/Labrador, before moving on to defeat 2012 Tim Hortons Brier champion Glenn Howard of Ontario in the semifinal on Sunday morning.

The 1985 Brier was the last time Northern Ontario won the national championship. Al Hackner made one of the highlight shots of all time to force an extra end and went on to steal the win against Alberta’s Pat Ryan in overtime to celebrate his second Tankard.

Jacobs came through under the pressure in Edmonton to win another title for Northern Ontario. And, in less than three weeks, the skip from Sault Ste. Marie will be heading to Victoria for his first appearance on the international stage with third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden.

“You Gotta Be There” for all the excitement when Team Canada takes on the biggest names in the game at the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship.

Volunteer Appreciation Night

BC Transit is pleased to provide free bus service for event volunteers at the upcoming Ford World Men’s Curling Championships at the Save-On Foods Memorial Centre.

All 500 volunteers will be provided with a BC Transit pass, which will be valid for the duration of the event, from March 30th through April 7th, 2013. When boarding the bus, volunteers must swipe their pass in the farebox and show the driver an official Ford World Curling photo ID. We hope that event volunteers will take advantage of this service, as it will reduce traffic and parking congestion in the area surrounding Save-On Foods Memorial Centre. We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting event, and look forward to welcoming the wonderful volunteers on board the buses.

The Volunteer Appreciation Party is the kick-off to the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship! All volunteers are invited to join in the party as we say “Thank You” with a meal, refreshments and entertainment.

The Original 16 Patch will open to the general public starting at 8:30 pm for “Fan Appreciation Night”. It’s our chance to see the official team introductions and presentation of the Honorary Team Host jackets and celebrate all of your hard work as a volunteer!
