DEVELOPMENTS IN THE SLU MUSEUM

OF ARTS AND CULTURES The constant support of the SLU Administration enabled the Museum of Arts and Cultures to accomplish most of the plans laid down in its strategic plan prepared by the new Museum curator Mr. Columbus G. Atitiw within the set time frame since he resumed office on January 17, 2017. The acme of these is the setting up of the CICM mini-museum. This comprises old photographs of the early CICM missionaries in the Cordilleras, old projectors, typewriters, first computerized SLU’s typewriter, cameras, tape recorder, vestments and vessels, video cameras, metal boxes, books and manuscripts written by early CICMs, old microphones, first adding machines, the first computer in Northern Luzon, and more. Due to space constraint, the stock room was utilized to accommodate the newly integrated collections. This was realized on November 28, 2017, in

time for the celebration of the 110th year of CICM mission in the country. The accretion of newly acquired artifacts made the space of the Museum more limited. These include complete sets of cordilleran attires, bulols, and tinagtagus used in witchcraft, ancient seats, native blankets, antique spears and axes, new documents on Cordillera beliefs and practices. The plan to put up income generating projects to augment funds for the Museum will be carried out once space is accorded for this purpose. The procurement of needed equipment and the expansion of the area to accommodate a larger group of people for lectures and presentations, a space for lowland artifacts are also considered in the strategic directions of the Museum.

MUSEUM AS A LEARNING CENTER

The SLU Museum of Arts and Cultures accommodated around 326 SLU Laboratory Elementary School Grade III pupils from March 13 to 14, 2018. The field trip enabled the pupils to gain first-hand learning in relation to the Cordilleran culture and traditions.

The emphasis of the activity is to foster skills needed in creating an open atmosphere whereby conflict resolutions and life-changing conversations are cultivated in the workplace and to promote management development in which members of the team can discover practical ways to accomplish tasks by cooperating with one another.
