Blueprint for Parents to Build Self Esteem
Positive tracking • Model making genuine positive comments
• Model being positive about yourself
• Give your child positive feedback
• Improve your own self esteem
Positive expectations
• Give them jobs, and expect positive outcomes
• Comment on the part of the job that was done well even if the child has failed.
Persevere
• At first your child will not believe what you are saying about them – persevere
Separate what they do from what they are • Don’t allow your child to make general comments about their achievements/failures e.g. They may
say they are terrible at sport, when what they should be saying is they are terrible at running.
Arrange opportunities for success
• Find out about things your child is good at and put them in a situating where they have an opportunity
to enjoy the success and show you that they can succeed.
Turn mistakes into positive experiences • If your child is having a negative experience, try and turn it into a positive one.
Encourage risk taking
• It doesn’t matter if a risk turns into a failure…let them have a go, and be there for them, waiting to
turn a negative experience into a positive one.
Keyed Up Music Keyed Up Music will be running guitar and piano lessons during school in Term 3, cost is from $18.65 for a
group of 4 lesson.
To enrol, go to www.keyedupmusic.com.au/enrolment-form or ring Therese on 1300 366 243 with any
questions.
2021 Applications In Western Australia, children can start their education in Kindergarten, however compulsory schooling
starts the following year in Pre-Primary. All children of compulsory school age must be enrolled and attend
every day – this is the law.
You need to apply to enrol your children in school for 2021 if they are:
• Starting Kindergarten – 4 years old by 30 June 2021
• Starting Pre-Primary, the first year of compulsory school – 5 years old by 30 June 2021
• Starting Year 7, the first year at secondary school
• Changing schools
The closing date for all Applications is Friday, 24 July 2020. Please note Applications for Enrolment are not
to be confused with Enrolments. All applications will be contacted shortly after the closing date advising if
their application has been successful and invite them to return and complete enrolment forms.
We are now taking expression of interest for children starting kindergarten in 2021
(children born between 1/7/2016 – 30/6/2017)
Consideration will be given to students living outside the local intake area. Acceptance of an application,
however, does not guarantee enrolment at the same school for the following compulsory year unless the
child lives in that school’s local intake area.
For further enquiries, please phone 9233 8900 between 8:00am and 3:00pm. Application forms are available
from the School Office or on our Website at http://www.poseidon.wa.edu.au/about-poseidon/enrolment-
policy/ .
EduDance Thank you to everyone for your support to our children during our EduDance assemblies. The children were
all amazing in their effort and resilience today and they enjoyed showcasing their dances to family members
so much. Thank you to our fantastic P&C members for amazing support, Jen Cumbers for your fabulous
menu today and our fabulous Event coordinators, Lara and Jodie for getting the raffles organised. Thank you
Ms Brown from EduDance for your support to help our children prepare their dances. We hope you enjoyed
it as much as we did. We were very proud of our children today!
P & C News
Next P&C meeting
Thursday, 23 July 2020 at 7pm in the Poseidon Staff Room.
Canteen News We are so happy that we can bring the canteen back for lunch 3 days per week from Term 3! Let me begin
by thanking you for your patience and understanding during our time of hibernation and limited menu
choices, those decisions have paid off for our little canteen. Thank you for your continued support.
Along with our extra trading day, we also have a new, extended, and delicious menu to launch in Term 3,
and we are so excited to share it with you!
Cash sales will be accepted again at recess and after lunch, although we do recommend you continue to
order these online as much as possible to avoid disappointment.
A few highlights –
• Sushi is back, every week. But please remember, the amount per week is limited to reduce waste, so
get your orders in quick each week!
• Our pizzas are new, they are delicious generously topped pizza on a focaccia base, that is now a green
item.
• Some new and exciting recess and lunch extras
• Introducing weekly specials
• Two types of pasta available daily during winter
• Kindy lunch packs available Wednesdays so our kindy kids can have a lunch order once per week if
they choose
• And finally, we haven’t taken away any of the fav’s from the menu
We appreciate your feedback and please continue to support our canteen!
Have you created a ClickCliq account yet? QuickCliq is now used for
