1st! All burning within the Forest Protection Area must be extinguished
BEFORE fire season begins. Once the fire season starts on March 1st, all burning will require a fire permit. Fire permits are free and can be obtained from your local ESRD office. Please call 780-624-6190 to request your permit.

Deep layers of organic soils are common throughout the peace region. This organic material may ignite under debris piles and smolder during
the winter months, and may spread rapidly when dry grasses are available to carry them on spring days.
The 2015 wildfire season begins on March 1st. Check all winter burn sites and ensure they are extin-guished before wildfire season begins. Dig deep in the ashes and check for heat. Apply water until no heat or steam can be felt or seen.
Winter fires can pose a hazard if they become out of control. Please call 310-FIRE if you spot smoke in the forest as it is important that each wildfire is actioned by fire fighting crews and other support as quickly as possible in or-der to reduce their spread.
Thank you for doing your part to prevent wildfires.
B E F O R E Y O U B U R N I T , G E T Y O U R P E R M I T Albertans in the forested areas need to get a fire permit for any burning, excluding campfires from MARCH 1 until OCTOBER 31 every year.
Fire permits are free and you can get more information or request a fire permit by calling the Peace River ESRD
office at 780-624-6190.
Please call a week in advance of when you would like to burn in order to give our staff time to make arrange-ments to come out to your site to issue your permit.
Have your site ready according to the burning site guidelines before staff arrive.
ALL permits will be assessed on a site by site basis and may be refused.

Clear Hills County has a rural
addressing program where
each residence is given a
rural addressing number and
signage is placed near the
end of the driveway. Rural
addressing is standardized
system which assigns an
address to rural properties
throughout the County. This
system allows a location to
be easily identified and found
by emergency response ser-
vices such as police, fire and
ambulance, along with other
local services, utility provid-
ers, residents and non-
residents.
Standard Rules:
Basic grid is derived from
township and range roads
40 meter intervals
Number increase north to
west
Odd numbers are on the
south and east sides
Even numbers are on the
north and west sides
Address numbers have a
maximum of 6 digits
If your sign is damaged or
missing, to apply for addition-
al signage or more infor-
mation on the rural address-
ing program contact the

April 12-18, 2015 is National
Volunteer week and across
the province, special events
will be held to pay tribute to
Alberta’s “every day heroes” -
the tens of thousands of
volunteers that work in our
communities.
First proclaimed in 1943 in
the midst of World War II,
National Volunteer Week
recognized the volunteer
efforts of women on the
home front. Designated inter-
nationally in the third or
fourth week of April each
year, this special week has
grown to become Canada’s
largest nation-wide celebra-
tion of civic participation.
Volunteers, directly and indi-
rectly, touch lives of almost
every Albertan and are in-
volved in virtually every as-
pect of community life. From
sports and recreation to the
arts and vital services to
youth, families and our most
vulnerable citizens, volun-
teers help to make possible
programs and services.
Local, regional, national and
international events intended
to involve all aspects of the
community are held through-
out the week to increase
awareness of the important
role of volunteers and non-
profit organizations and, to
encourage volunteerism in
our communities.
Eating eggs was forbidden during Lent.
Eggs laid during that time were often
boiled or otherwise preserved. Eggs
were thus a mainstay of Easter Meals,
and a prized Easter gift for children. Eggs have been viewed as symbols of new
life and fertility. It is believed that for this reason many ancient cultures used
the eggs during their spring festivals.
Full details on keynote
speakers, workshops and
registration will be released
in the coming weeks, so

The 27th annual Vitalize Provin-
cial Voluntary Sector Conference
will be held June 18—20, 2015
in Edmonton at the Shaw Confer-
ence Centre. Amazing Keynotes
with powerful workshops will
offer delegates the opportunity
to explore innovative ideas in
organizational development,
leadership, marketing and other
areas.

On Wednesday, April 19, 1995 the newly named Municipal District of Clear Hills No. 21 held its first Agricul-
tural Trade Fair. Council members Leslie Davis, Telly Burrell, Dennis McLarty, Ernie Bass, Ron Lundgard and
Mike Ratzick directed administrative staff to organize the first annual Trade Fair and Farmer Appreciation
Day in Hines Creek. Agricultural Service Board members at the time were Ernie Bass as Chairman, Leslie
Davis as Advisory Councillor, Linde Schwerdt as a member-at–large and Charles Layher as a member-at-
large. Being the first Agricultural Trade Fair, the Agriculture services staff would have had more than a few
obstacles to overcome. Ag Fieldman of the day was Barry Kolenosky, who with his staff Doug Richardson,
Marilyn Ray, Council secretary Karen Basnett and the rest of the MD of Clear Hills staff organized a great
fair. Over 300 people attended the supper (at $4 per plate) and 600-700 people went through the fair.
Now 21 years later several changes have been made. The pancake breakfast was added on, as was the
evening dance, the dance is now organized by the Hines Creek & District Agricultural Society. The venue
expanded into the curling rink of the Dave Shaw Memorial Complex, which had a dirt floor for the first few
years. The first trade fair was held on a Wednesday from 1pm to 9pm and included educational sessions on
trees, minimum tillage and drying herbs. At some point the show was moved to Friday & Saturday and even-
tually it stayed on the Saturday as a one day show. In 2006, Clear Hills became a county and the MD of
Clear Hills No. 21 Ag Trade Fair has now become the Clear Hills County Agricultural Trade Show. From 52
exhibitors in 1995, we now have over a 100 booths in 2015.
Despite the many changes over the years the Trade Show has seen a lot of things remain the same. The
community support has been outstanding. Many exhibitors keep coming back year after year, here are a
few that I recognize from 1995(many have changed names): 4-H District Council (Montagneuse 4H Multi-
Club), Farm Credit Corporation(Farm Credit Canada), Agriculture Financial Services Corp(AFSC), Treasury
Branch of Alberta(ATB), Ram Motors(Campbell Chrysler), Fivestar Equipment(Prairie Coast Equipment), UFA
(still UFA), Fairview & District Credit Union(Servus Credit Union), Hines Creek & District Agricultural Society,
and Houlder Farm Supply (Rocky Mountain Equipment).
Just like in 1995, admission to the show is free. It’s still in the same place – Dave Shaw Memorial Complex
in Hines Creek. The date is Saturday, April 11th, 2015. Breakfast starts at 8AM and the Trade Show opens
at 10AM. Join us for the 21st Annual Clear Hills County Agricultural Trade Show Saturday, April 11, 2015.
