TRANSCRIPT
In their tale “The Goose-Girl at the Well,” the Brothers Grimm tell of a maiden
who wept pearls instead of tears. Legend has it that as a young princess, she had
been harshly driven away from her royal home, and her father’s kingdom given
only to her two older sisters. She fled into the forest, the path she traveled strewn
with pearls behind her from her many tears. She was given refuge in a little house
in the forest by a strange old woman. When her parents, the king and queen, found
her three years later, they were overjoyed. But the king had nothing to give her; he
had bequeathed the kingdom to her sisters. Then the old woman said, “She needs
nothing, for I give her the countless pearls from all the tears of sadness she has shed
these years. They are precious pearls, finer than those that are found in the sea, and
worth more than your whole kingdom.” Thus, the princess lived happily ever after.
In real life, God’s children do not weep pearls, but the Scriptures do promise us
that soon the time of weeping will end, and God’s people will live happily ever af-
ter (Rev 7:15–17). In that day, it will be seen that God has taken note of our tears
and stored them up (Ps 56:8) and that somehow, by his marvelous grace and power,
God has transformed the tears sown in this life into a harvest of eternal joy and
laughter (Ps 126:6). All these drops of bitter, salty sorrow God will transform into
beautiful, precious pearls.

Flowers
We’ve had some members of the con-
gregation sign up recently to do a coffee
hour but we could use some more. Why
not pair up with someone else to host a
coffee hour. Get some rolls or bagels
and a few cookies or baked goods with
juice and milk to go with the coffee. The
Ladies Guild purchases the coffee and
paper goods. Clean up after is a breeze!
The sign up sheet is in the Narthex next
to the Flower Chart. Let us all work to-
gether to continue what we Lutheran’s
do best. Congregate and Eat!

Silent Auction
NOVEMBER 18th
On Saturday evening, November 19th, Atonement Lutheran Church will hold their 4th annu-
al Silent Auction. There will be a wine and cheese party along with a
concert from the ―Hudsoneers.‖
The festivities begin at 7:00 PM with the doors opening at 6:30 PM.
This is a very enjoyable evening and want everyone to bring their family and
friends. Not to mention, you can go home with a great basket.
We will be looking to the congregation for donations (and will have a list pre-
pared shortly) to help create these baskets.
The other way you can help donate would be to ask those businesses that you
visit to make a donation of a gift card/certificate. We will have a donation letter
in the Narthex to give the establishments. Thank you for you support and hope
to see you all on the evening of November 18th.
HOLIDAY TOY COLLECTION
When shopping for Christmas gifts this season, please keep those less fortunate in mind.
-Help support People To People’s Joy! Store.
- Presently People to People provides monthly food packages to more than 1,500 families each month. This year more than
ever there will be need for our Joy! Store where families can receive two new gifts per child.
-Last year, almost 900 families had gift-filled holidays thanks to many individuals, groups, and corporations that participated in
Project Joy!
We will be collecting new toys for children aged 0-18. Please purchase soft toys, dolls, sports games, scrapbooks, art
and craft kits, action figures, toy trucks, building games, musical and educational toys, and children’s books. In addition, $25
gift cards from Target, Wal-Mart, Old Navy, Barnes & Noble and Kohl’s are especially helpful as gifts for older children.
All donations should be brought to the church by December 3rd.
