HISTORICAL FACTS Samuel Morse was an American inventor and artist most well-known for co-inventing the Morse code and inventing the single-wire telegraph. He was born Samuel Finley Breese Morse on April 27, 1791, in Charlestown, Massachusetts to Jedidiah Morse, a geographer and pastor, and Elizabeth Ann Finley Breese. Samuel went to school at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts and then Yale College, where he developed an interest in electricity. While at school he earned a living through his art, and after graduating Phi Beta Kappa at Yale he left for England to further study art. It wasn't until 1825, when Samuel's wife died (without him even knowing she had become sick) that he was inspired to create a method for transferring information quickly over long distances. This would lead to the single-wire telegraph invention.

THE KENNEDY DEBUTANTE by Kerri Maher A captivating novel following the ex- ploits of Kathleen "“Kick" Kennedy, the forgotten and rebellious daughter of one of America's greatest political dyn- asties. London, 1938. The effervescent "It girl" of London society since her father was named the ambassador, Kathleen "Kick" Kennedy moves in rarified circles, rubbing satin-covered elbows with some of the 20th century's most powerful figures. Eager to es- cape the watchful eye of her strict mother, Rose, the antics of her older brothers, Jack and Joe, and the erratic behavior of her sister Rosemary, Kick is ready to strike out on her own and is soon swept off her feet by Billy Hartington, the future Duke of Devonshire. But their love is forbidden, as Kick's devout Catholic family and Billy's staunchly Protestant one would never approve their match. When war breaks like a tidal wave across her world, Billy is ripped from her arms as the Kennedys are forced to return to the States. Kick gets work as a journalist and joins the Red Cross to get back to England, where she will have to de- cide where her true loyalties lie—with family or with love .
. . POETRY CORNER Daffodils
by William Wordsworth
I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way, They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they Outdid the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not but be gay, In such a jocund company: I gazed—and gazed—but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils.

Our thanks go to the Nate Elliott Company for removing tree limbs on the south side of the Plymouth St. parking area, as well as chipping up most of the brush pile. The committee, along with Bill Davis and Jack Kelleher, has burned the remaining brush pile and have done more cleaning up there. Mowing has begun. There are just a few garden plots still available. They are $25 per plot – large, small, and raised (for handicapped gardeners). Lurane Ryerson has the applications, or you may print one out
from the Griffin Dairy Farm website. Such a lovely, peaceful area……come and enjoy!
