BY: RUSSELL NIX

Hello HOG’s,

Hope everyone has enjoyed some great riding

over the last two months. Lisa and I have been

to five states and logged some great miles. I just

want everyone to know, there is no time like

now to get out and ride. I know life can get in

the way of having fun but don’t wait for tomor-

row. With that said please remember our mem-

bers who are having health problems. If you

can, check on them. a friendly visit can make

someone’s day.

There are some great rides posted for the next

two months. I am sure there will be more to

come. Come on Road Captains let’s post some

rides. They don’t have to be far off just a dinner

ride. Don’t forget to check the calendar for

rides to come.

We are now less than 40 days from the bike

give away. Please, if you can’t sell some tickets

just buy some if every member would just buy

one ticket we would almost raise 3000.00 dol-

lars. Remember if you sell twenty tickets you re-

ceive one free. You must turn in your tickets by

the August 9th monthly meeting to receive your

free tickets. This is our annual fund raiser. The

better we do, the more our chapter can have

parties and such. This is your chapter and we

need your help.

Ride Safe and have fun

We are half way through 2018 and what a great year it

has been so far. Lots of new members and some great

rides. The Smoky Mountain HOG rally was a highlight to

the year and hope more people can go next time. Mike did

a fantastic job setting up and leading the ride. The sec-

ond half of the year is shaping up to be just as good

starting off with Russell's ride to Blue Ridge, GA to go

tubing and ride the Gauntlet, it's sure to be a great time.

With just 2 months left before the bike give away, we

need to keep pushing those raffle tickets. Remember the

more we sale, the more we will have to spend on the pic-

nic, Halloween party and Christmas party. Hope to see

y'all out there riding. Be safe and stay hydrated, espe-

cially with the way the heat has been lately!

Seems we went directly from “where is Spring?” to “good grief it’s

too hot!”…would it be too much to ask for a couple of weeks of

SPRING?

Looks like it’s time for a nice, cool, indoor LOH activity! I’m work-

ing on a date for a movie night and by the time you get this news

letter, I should have a date and movie locked down. There are a

couple of good “chick flicks” showing right now, so be looking

for details on this upcoming event.

The Chapter has several big events coming up over the next few

months and there are many opportunities for each of you to con-

tribute in one way or another. Your time, while precious, is some-

thing that is much appreciated and won’t bust the old bank ac-

count. The annual bike raffle is quickly approaching; August is

just around the corner. We could use all the help we can get

selling raffle tickets. Our HOG parties are always a lot of fun

and the more raffle tickets we sell, the more we can provide dur-

ing the parties in the way of entertainment, door prizes, etc. So

see Lisa Townsend and check out some tickets to sell.

It’s never too early to start thinking about our annual Teddy Bear

Ride. If your company, or anyone you know who owns a company,

would be interested in donating door prizes that could be raffled

off the day of the ride, it would be much appreciated. If you know

of anyone that you think we should contact, please let me or any

of the officers know and we would be more than happy to contact

them.

Stay safe and see everyone soon!

Hello Hogs!

Has anyone said it’s hot? If you didn’t know, it is. But there is still

plenty of roads to ride so get out with some fellow Hogs or po-

tential new Hogs, and put on some miles. There are still some

good rides coming up so get involved. Also sell some raffle tick-

ets so we can raise some money for the chapter.

We need more advertisers. If you know of some businesses that

would be interested in putting an add in our newsletter, give

them my email and we can work it out.

Ride safe everyone and stay coooool!!

GREAT SMOKEY MOUNTAIN

H.O.G. RALLY 2018

05/31/2018 thru 06/02/2018

This year some of our members and I went to the Hog Rally in

Maryville, Tn. We had 12 members on 8 bikes leave Rider’s HD at 8

A.M. on the 31st of May to meet up with 5 members and 1 guest on 4

bikes in Attala. After a few hellos we were off. Next stop was

Trenton Ga. We gassed up and up the mountain on highway 136

past Cloudland State Park to left on highway 193. We then

turned right on Highway 2 Battlefield parkway to I-75. We got

back on the interstate to Cleveland exit Highway 64. We took

Highway 64 to Highway 411 in to Maryville. We made two stops

off 411. One for lunch at Angel’s Homestyle Restaurant. Next

stop was in a church parking lot 45 miles from Maryville to put

on our rain gear. The clouds were black and the wind gusts were

pretty high so we stopped. It was only 20 minutes of hard rain and

we on our way again. 15 miles up the road and the sun popped back

out and it started getting hot in the rain gear. We were glad to

get out of that gear when we got to the registration station in

Maryville. After we got signed in and stopped at the dealership,

we got to our hotel, the Best Western in Cedar Bluff (Knoxville).

Mike Neely did a great job leading us.

Day 2 -06/01/2018

After a good night sleep we awoke to a beautiful sunrise. By

8:00 A.M. it was raining with more storms on the way. We had

planned to ride the Rattler that day but with it being an all day

trip and the weather so shaky we decided to take a shorter ride.

After the weather cleared we went to Maryville from our hotel

to highway 411 south. We took a left on Highway 360 to Tellico

Planes. Can’t go by a dealership without a quick stop and then on

to the Cherohala Skyway. After the Skyway we headed to high-

way 129. We had some lunch and road the Tail of the Dragon.

From there after another stop at another dealership we got on

the Foothills Parkway. From there Highway 321 back in to

Maryville. We joined up with some who didn’t go on our ride at

Smoky Mountain HD and heard a John Fogerty cover band do some

great CCR songs. A great time was had by all. (See Pictures and

ask Jeanette about her dance partner). That night we all got in

Larry and Christy’s room for pizza a few beverages and lots of

laughs.

Volume 18 , I ssue 4 Page 26

Day 3—06/02/2018

Again we were looking at high rain chances in the afternoon so

we decided on a shorter ride. From our hotel we got on highway

162 to Oak Ridge then highway 62 to Oliver Springs. From there

we got on highway 330 which is the start of the Devil’s Triangle a

44 mile loop. This ride is not for the timid. We took a left turn on

to highway 116. There was a sack or bundle of large fish lying in

the middle of the road that must have fallen off of someone’s

truck. Highway 116 or also called New River Road is one of the

curviest roads I have ever ridden. There are four 180 degree up-

hill switchbacks, which you have to be in 1st gear to pull, in a row

on the way up and maybe more on the way back down. This is a 44

mile loop but it seems longer because of the difficulty. After a

quick stop at the Brushy Mountain Market to buy some patches

and stickers, but also to catch our breath. We turned left back

on highway 62 in to Oliver Springs. We stopped at Ruby’s Dinner

for a cup of coffee and some delicious Amish homemade donuts

and fried pies. After the ride some of us hung out at the pool.

Some of us went to a few dealerships in Knoxville and a few went

to the Harley Hooligan Races at the Smoky Mountain dirt track.

It rained at the track but it was so hot if felt good. After a little

track drying the racing resumed and it was a good time.

This was a great trip with great friends. Although we didn’t go

on the rally rides we did get in a lot of miles, I had 890 when I got

home, and saw some beautiful country. If you are ever in the Knox-

ville area on your bike it is only about 30 miles to the Devil’s Tri-

angle. It is an incredible ride. If you haven’t been to a rally I high-

ly recommend you attend one. You get to meet other HOG members

from all over our country and I even ran into some from Canada

and Ireland.

Miles shown reflect miles earned and entered by a dealer since enrollment into the HOG mileage program and might not reflect all miles ridden. Check with your dealer with questions. Read our FAQ for more information.
