Your Future is Key, So Stay Drug Free Since Red Ribbon
Week once again
falls during our short-
ened week during
parent/teacher confer-
ences we will cele-
brate a week later,
Oct. 30th through Nov. 3rd.
This year’s national theme is “Your
Future is Key, so Stay Drug Free.”
We are going to use this week to help
showcase to students some different
types of professions they can do when
they grow up (with the help of a drug
free lifestyle). The underlying theme
is that there are better things to do in
this world than doing drugs.
We are going to kick off our Red
Ribbon Week activities once again
with our 4th annual staff vs. students
kick ball game. Coach Long will be
our guest speaker and he will bring
along some OHS football players to
try and help our students win this
year’s kickball game and some OHS
cheerleaders to cheer them on.
Other guest speakers for the week
will be Elizabeth Hoffman, news
reporter from KRCG-TV 13, Mindi
Katsov from Mid-America Acro and
Tumbling team, Hunt Tainter, veteri-
narian, and first responders from the
local community.
Our counselor, Ms. Jennings has
several educational and fun activities
planned for the students and with the
help of OHS Ag students and teach-
ers, we will start on the assembly of
our “Only One You” landscape pro-
ject.”
The “Only One You” project is mod-
eled after the book with the same
name by Linda Kranz and is taken
from Sharon Elementary in New-
burgh, Indiana. Students will deco-
rate rocks in art class that will be-
come a part of the front landscaping
at OES. This week is centered on
stressing to our students that there is
only one of them, so they should stay
away from drugs so they can become
whatever they choose to be and leave
their own mark on our world — drug
free.
And as always, we’ll have our Red
Ribbon Spirit Week!!
Oct. 30 -- “Color the Future Red” wear your red
Oct. 31 -- “Don’t Be Trickin’, Treat
Yourself to a Drug Free Future” -wear orange and black

to be when you grow up or ‘dress for
success’ and wear dress up clothes

wards clothes, crazy hair, etc…

Future” - wear your favorite hat
Be sure to talk to your kiddos about
how they can make positive choices,
be the best they can be, and have
better
things to
do than
doing
drugs.
Tricks, trunks, & treats Join us for our annual OES Trunk or
Treat event on Friday, Oct. 20th, 5pm to

following. If you plan to take your child
with you after the party, you will need to
sign your student out with their teacher. **Reminder-- no costumes with weapons.

all pieces labeled and only store bought treats
per district policy. Please be aware of student
