Well it’s hard to believe that we are coming to the end of another year. It has been a very full on 11 months with lots to be proud about as a club member. Let me begin by thanking all those members that re- cently supported our social day at “Wet’n’Wild”. Well it was not a hard thing to do, just turn up and have a fun day with everyone. We had around 100 people attend the day and judging from their faces, all seamed to have a great time racing each other down the slides and seeing who could get the most “Air” on the faster rides. Luckily the day was fine and the park was not as full as last year so getting a go on every thing was not impossible, in fact I think must people had the opportunity to get multi- ple goes on the good rides with out to much fuss. Thanks also to all the parents who made themselves available to come and enjoy the day as well. We will be doing some thing similar next year, more details coming soon. The three round tourna- ment series was another high- light for me. To see such a high standard from the com- petitors, each and every time you entered was fantastic to experience. The improve- ments that I have seen in those members who com- peted has been rewarding in many ways. Every single per- son that entered can be proud of himself or herself; there was only ever good sports man-ship display and the support that you gave one another was special to see first hand. Congratula- tions must go to Jason and the Redcliffe Team for taking out the Perpetual Trophy for the most points from the se- ries. But it was close with Brett and the Kallangur Team coming home very strongly in the final round. To all the members that won grand champion trophies hold your head up high it is something you will remember always. If you didn’t win a medal but still gave it you best shot than you to can be proud of your- selves. To me you are all win- ners! We have plans to keep this going so I hope that you all get behind it next year (and by the way, my first ever tournament I placed 4 th and I was so happy with that re- sult). Next year we have booked Camp Constable at Mt Glori- ous for our two training camps. The first is in March 6 th , 7th & 8 th for all the Black Belts and specially invited members. And the All Ranks camp will be on the 9 th , 10 th & 11 th of October. The camp has only limited bunks avail- able so be sure to let your instructor know well in ad- vance that you wish to attend these weekends. Training Camps have always been my personal favorite activity (again my first camp I was a Green Belt, boy did it open my eyes to Tae Kwon Do) where we give you the best three days of pleasure and pain. Come prepared to work hard as these are self cater camps, in an effort to keep the costs down, you get to bring and cook your own food. There is a full working Kitchen with a walk-in fridge and outside a big BBQ. So plan ahead as to what you want to take to eat. Make sure it’s healthy and easy to pre- pare, as you WILL be tired. If you have never been to one of our camps than make the effort next year, you won’t be disappointed. To all our new members taking their first grading, good luck and just show what you have been taught so far. It can be a nerve- racking thing to get on the floor and try to remember all your instructors’ words of wisdom, remember if you make a small mistake don’t let it worry you just keep trying you best. That’s all we expect, try hard and you will be re- warded. In closing I would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas, hope you have a safe holiday session. Most classes begin back late Janu- ary, try to be at the first lesson for the year and maybe bring a friend along. Clubs can only grow and continue with new members coming through the door, so help your instructor to promote the IMT and we will continue to give you the best training on offer. Well it’s hard to believe that we are coming to the end of another year. It has been a very full on 11 months with lots to be proud about as a club member.

Let me begin by thanking all those members that re-cently supported our social day at “Wet’n’Wild”. Well it was not a hard thing to do, just turn up and have a fun day with everyone. We had around 100 people attend the day and judging from their faces, all seamed to have a great time racing each other down the slides and seeing who could get the most “Air” on the faster rides. P A G E 2 B R E A K I N G G R O U N D

Greetings from. all of us here on our little island (and surrounds).

Our club has experienced a rush of new members eager to start the martial arts journey and it's been a hectic few weeks getting everyone off on the right track. Bribie's instructors (Mike and myself) along with our current mem-bers and, in fact, the entire IMT crew, wish to welcome you all aboard and trust that you gain much from the journey of self-discovery that awaits you. You all have different moti-vations for commencing this form of martial arts. Many, especially those on the 'outside' of the martial arts arena often see martial arts purely as a physical pursuit, tinged with violence perpetuated by Hollywood. From a personal perspective, it's a controlled response to violence perpetrated against us using the power of the mind and the body to stay safe - a human right, one would think. Hav-ing violence, anger or any negative emotion (including a self-inflated ego) during sparring or self-defense is counter-productive. The mind should be focused on the task at hand and that is self-preservation and staying in con-trol. There is no room for emotions during these critical moments. Adrenalin will be playing a huge role anyway, particularly in a real threat situation. The role of the mind in all forms of our martial arts cannot be overstated. In our club, a strong focus is placed on visualisation - getting the mind to create what it wants the body to eventually do (within its capabilities of course). It's the ultimate control tower, the source of all human action. Whether you are only just embarking on your IMT/martial arts' journey or nearing the pinnacle of your training and preparing for a black belt grading, training your mind is an in valuable tool to complement your physical training.

(particularly the demanding higher rank gradings), focus on the now, not on the list of tasks you have to do in order to make it through to the end. This is particularly useful if you have to undertake many spars. For one, it will often overwhelm you; and two, it means you're not focused on what you are supposed to be doing - your best at that moment. Be in the moment! Be in the mo-ment! Be in the moment!

In closing, we at Bribie wish everyone a very happy Christmas and New Year celebrations. Stay safe on and off the roads. All the very best for the new year of train-ing and achieving your best - both at a physical and mental level.

Lee 2nd Degree Black Belt

Ways to enhance your training include:

• Being positive (particularly if a certain aspect of your training is proving to be a challenge) and not allow-ing self-defeating thoughts prevent you from moving beyond any challenges. Accept all advice and encour-agement from your instructor or any other IMT instructors with a sense of gratitude and a determination to achieve your best.

• Visualise yourself doing your pattern/s and make them as perfect as they can be - in your mind! You're creating your own (very low budget) movie in your mind, but be your own toughest director and put everything into it. What the mind sees, the body will follow. If you make a mistake (in your visualisations), well, start again!

When preparing for a grading, try to watch the grading of the next rank up so that you can gain a mindset on what is expected (beyond what is on the grading form). Watching a black belt grading (or 2nd Dan grad-ing for that matter) can present you with a mental image of what is in store for you down the track; something to aim for. A little tip for when you are in the midst of a grading

Hey guys, just a message from the al-ways fit and awesome Banyo Class.

Fitness is one of the most important parts in your training, and it’s also the one that is usually the most forgotten, with technique claiming most of the at-tention. What’s the point of being able to do a perfect 360 jump hook kick to the head if you can only do it once and then you need to stop and regain your breath? Fitness is something that you need to be constantly trying to improve upon and to be able to push yourself to new levels. Without fitness we could never be able to defend ourselves or strike back for any length of time. Tech-nique and strength will only get you so far. So, with the Christmas break fast approaching, with all its very tempting foods, try to remember to go for a run, or do 50 sit ups before bed, otherwise when you come back to training you will be leaning on the wall trying to get your breath back as the superior black belts race past you.

Jacinta & Ryan Forbes

It may have been a bit overcast, and hey, it may have rained a bit late in the day, but if you cared about getting wet, why would you have been at the IMT 2008 Family Social Day?

It’s always great to see each other outside of the training hall and get together and have a bit of a laugh. Even if its when you see someone queuing for the same ride as you, or as the pass you on your way to ride the Tornado for the 15th time, or as the scream past you on the Mach 5, or if you want to use the only working BBQ after them.

The Kamikaze was the new attraction this year, for those with enough pa-tience to line up for it, you were treated to a blink of the eye freefall which was momentarily disrupted with ambitions of touching the other side before sliding your way to a watery standstill. We only wish they had both sides operating!

All in all, everyone had a great day out and we can’t wait for next years social day!

The end of year break up is quickly approaching, so I would like to congratulate all of the Kallangur Students along with all the other students on a fantastic year. It’s pleasing to see the progression of so many students, and how your efforts have greatly improved your ability. I look forward to the new training year with a lot more challenges and fun to be had. Good luck to all of the student’s grading.

In order to master Tae Kwon Do you can’t simply rock up to class each day and casually go about the lesson. It is important to always have a goal in mind; something that you want to improve or a per-sonal challenge. Set both short term goals each lesson and long term goals to work on through the year. Always try to think about these things throughout all aspects of your training. Examples of some goals are improving kicks on your weaker leg, using more hands, utilising takedowns in free sparing or throwing an impressive spin kick. You don’t need to wait for a kicking session to practice a specific kick or a takedown session to practice those advanced throws. Start using them during other areas such as set sparring and soon they will become a part of your repertoire and will flow naturally into your free sparring and self defence. And don’t forget work on your goals at home.

Good luck everyone at the final grading for the year, especially Matthew and Cassie who will be attempting their black belt examinations. Hope you all have a fun and safe holiday and return next year ready to train hard and work on your goals.

Tournament Results and Points From Round 3

GOAL SETTING When you belong to a club...doesn’t matter what kind, you want to be successful.  For Red‐cliffe, 2008 has been a successful year.  It started early when students Joe and Robert Sandona, took an amazing advancement in their training and became Instructors.  Throughout the year, we have seen them mature into fine instructors, and Redcliffe couldn’t be more proud of them.  Mid year, Jason Pascoe achieved one of every students main goals and obtained his Black Belt.  Cassie Sutherland will be attempting her Black Belt at this years last grading.  We wish her well.  Also throughout the year, Redcliffe has produce 3 more black tips, so even the future looks great.  Added to the per‐sonal rewards was the club winning the first Perpetual Club Trophy at this years tournament series!  Congratulations to all students at the Redcliffe club for making it what it is: a dedi‐cated, disciplined, hard working and talented bunch of people who are filled with a positive attitude towards Tae Kwon Do.  Best Wishes for the New Year!

Jason Parker

3rd Degree         Black Belt

Well it is that time of the year when we look back at all that we have achieved and accomplished during the last 12 months. Have we done what we set out to do? Have we achieved the goals, we set ourselves, or others have set for us? What got us to where we are today? Did we pass or fail.

Unfortunately we can’t cheat the answers to any of these questions as the only person with the answers is ourselves. This especially applies to our training in TKD. We are the only people that can MAKE ourselves better. Our instructors can’t MAKE us keep our hands up when sparring. They can’t MAKE us try hard in class. They can’t MAKE us move our head o avoid being punched. It all comes down to us, the individual. We have to push ourselves past our limits in order to make gains. Like stretching for flexibility we need to stretch our minds so we can push ourselves to achieve our goals. We all need to set ourselves realistic goals and push our-selves to get the results that we can be proud of. So if you have achieved your goals for the year – well done. If you haven’t – don’t panic, the world won’t end, just try harder next year.

Finally I would just like to wish all a merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year and look forward to seeing each and every one of you in 2009.

Cheers Tony and the crew at Banyo

Tournament Round 3 WrapTournament Round 3 Wrap--upup Congratulations to all competitors on another successful year in the IMT tournament series. With the largest round so far for the year, it was great to see such amazing talent from all clubs on dis-play. An exciting finish was on the cards in both the Patterns and Sparring divisions, with most competitors only a gold medal away from clinching or even snatching a coveted Grand Champion Trophy!

With strong competition in all divisions, it wasn’t hard to see the eagerness of each student being translated into some of the strongest patterns, and fastest sparring we have witnessed all year. Of course there can only be one Grand champion, so lets congratulate Eliot Wilson, Jacob Pace, Zachery Jewell, Max Barron, William Cox and Brett Parker who claimed the Grand Champions Trophy in Patterns. And Also to Nicholas Mintzas, Eliot Wilson, Zachery Jewell, James Healy, Peter Voermanek, Cassie Sutherland, Robert Sandona and Jason Parker who triumphed in the Sparring Divisions.

Round 3 saw the largest contingent of Demonstrations Teams out of any round this year. Every team had a great energy and enthusiasm, as well as fantastic ideas. If we get the same amount of support that we did from this round next year, we will defi-nitely look at having two divisions, for juniors and seniors.

The newest trophy up for grabs this year, was the Perpetual Club Championship Trophy. This is awarded to the club which earns the most points throughout the year from the amount of placements they receive. In its inaugural year the Club Champion-ship was awarded to the Redcliffe Club! Congratulations to all student’s from Redcliffe who participated throughout the year.

We greatly look forward to seeing everyone next year, if 2008 is anything to go by, then 2009 should be absolutely fantastic! See you then!
