The Volunteer Volume 29, Number 9 September 2011 Trustees’ Fall Meeting HRDF board of trustees will hold its fall meeting on Sunday, September 11, at 1:30 p.m. Sharps Disposal It recently came to our attention that syringes and other sharps should not be disposed of in the dumpster, even if they are in a container. After phone calls and some internet exploring, we contacted the right department at MD Anderson. Lucia Koch in the Environmental Health & Safety department agreed to supply us with sharps containers and to pick up our full containers. This is a wonderful service and we thank EH&S for providing it. Sharps containers are now mounted in both laundry rooms and in the community room bathroom. Guests have been instructed to dispose of any syringes and sharps in the containers. Thank You Guests continue to help with keeping our facility clean and the yards mowed. New guest Mervin Smith has joined the lawn mowers club. Thank you. Gracias to Willie Rivera for painting one of the BBQ grills. It looks brand new. Thanks to Jennifer Cobb (shuttle bus driver), the Donleys (current guests), Nancy Hall, Helen Hickman, Brenda White (former guest), and Wayland’s Way for their in-kind donations. We’ve gotten a new trimmer, kitchen and bedroom linens, a new blender, a gently used microwave and bingo prizes. Thanks to Covenant Church for hosting the ice cream social in August. That ice cream was surely appreciated in these “warm” days! Recent note from a guest The word “hospitality” will forever be associated in my mind and heart with the Hospitality Apartments. Your facility serves such a good purpose. We had never heard of such a place before. It is truly a great ministry a blessing. Thanks to all the people who make the Hospitality Apartments possible. Sincerely, Melinda Give thanks to the LORD and call upon his Name: make known his deeds among the peoples. Sing to him, sing praises to him, and speak of all his marvelous works. Glory in his holy Name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. Trustees’ Fall Meeting HRDF board of trustees will

hold its fall meeting on Sunday, September 11, at 1:30 p.m.

Sharps Disposal It recently came to our

attention that syringes and other sharps should not be disposed of in the dumpster, even if they are in a container. After phone calls and some internet exploring, we contacted the right department at MD Anderson. Lucia Koch in the Environmental Health & Safety department agreed to

supply us with sharps containers and to pick up our full containers. This is a wonderful service and we thank EH&S for providing it. Sharps containers are now mounted in both laundry rooms and in the community room bathroom. Guests have been instructed to dispose of any syringes and sharps in the containers.

Thank You Guests continue to help

with keeping our facility clean and the yards mowed.

Recent note from a guest The word “hospitality” will

forever be associated in my mind and heart with the Hospitality Apartments.

Your facility serves such a good purpose. We had never heard of such a place before. It is truly a great ministry — a blessing.

Thanks to all the people who make the Hospitality Apartments possible.

Sincerely, Melinda

Give thanks to the LORD and call upon his Name: make known his deeds among the peoples. Sing to him, sing praises to him, and speak of all his marvelous works. Glory in his holy Name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. Psalm 105: 1-3

Please keep all of our guests in your prayers.

August Gifts During August, donations were received in memory of Dillon Beebe and Norvald Nielsen. A donation was received in thanksgiving for the Hospitality Apartments. All donations enable HRDF to continue its ministry to our guests through the Hospitality Apartments. Thank you.

Walking in another’s shoes

You never realize how much work another person does until you have to do that person’s job. John and Frances Hunter were recently on vacation. I took over some of their duties while they were gone. Let’s just say that I welcomed them back with open arms! John and Frances, thank you for all you do at Hospitality Apartments!

The rectangular sign on the bottom, donated by the Deslattes, family members of recent guest Don Hawkins, reminds our guests of the laundry

room hours.

Thank you, MDA, for our new sharps containers. This one is in the community room bathroom. There is also one in each of the laundry rooms. Instructions tell guests how to dispose of syringes

and other medical waste.
