An Important Message from Our Baron & Baroness

Unto the Populace of Caer Mear do Baron Augustin

and Baroness Aine send festive greetings!

We extend Our deepest appreciation to everyone who

helped make Yule such a wonderful event. The food

was delicious, the atmosphere festive and the camara-

derie unmatched. We enjoyed spending time with all of

you in attendance, including Our dear guests from afar,

Baron William of Storvik, and Baron Ragnar and Bar-

oness Lynette of Dun Carraig (and the beautiful babies

which provided much entertainment for us all!!)

Congratulations to Brother Amos on his squiring to His

Grace Duke Ragnar during Our court, and to all the

award winners, especially Lord William (Cookie) Bar-

foot, for whom We presented an AoA as directed by

Their Majesties during Crown Tourney.

At this time, We also have an important, and bitter-

sweet announcement that We shared at the last baronial

business meeting. The upcoming Ruby Joust will mark

the end of our tenure as your Baronage and We have

decided that it is our best interest at this time to clear

the way for Our successors. We love serving You in

this capacity but many other factors have influenced

the decision to step down. We thank you for all of your

tremendous support so far, and appreciate your contin-

ued help over the next 5-6 months.

Soon you’ll hear words from Baron William, our sene-

schal, about the polling process. For anyone interested

in serving, We are always open to meeting with you to

discuss what it takes to serve and share our experience,

as will most of the retired baronage.

In the meantime, We wish all of you a very Merry

Christmas and Happy Holidays, and Our best and

brightest wishes to you and your loved ones for a

healthy and safe new year.

Yours always in service,

Aine and Augustin

A Word from Our Seneschal Greetings,

I hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe holiday. As

the New Year starts the Barony has a very important

matter in helping to determine our next Baronage. You

will find a separate letter in this QD that details the

schedule and process. For those who may be interested

in submitting a Letter of Intent, please remember that I

need those by Jan. 17th. Would suggest that if you are

interested please seek out Their Excellencies and any

other former Baronage, as they would gladly share

their experiences with you.

Battery Park Church has been very good to us for many

years now by allowing us to use of their facilities at not

charge. As a small way by giving back we have help

them with the CARITAS program, which will be Feb-

ruary 4-11. They take in approximately 35 homeless

gentlemen for a week and provide them shelter and

meals. We have been doing the cot set-up on Saturday

and providing a meal on Tuesday night when we would

normally be having practice/A&S/gather. To help off-

set the cost of food we provide there will be a donation

jar at all the January gathers, our goal is to collect

$150. At Yule we raised $75 towards that, any money

that is left over after paying for food cost will be do-

nated to church to help offset their cost. Lady Ysabella

has graciously agreed to head up our cooking efforts

again this year. Once I have a time for cot delivery will

post to the e-mail list.

I would like to announce that Baron Kendrick will be

the autocrat for Ruby Joust/Investiture. I’m sure he will

be looking to fill a variety of staff positions and other

help needed in near future.

I am still in need of a deputy seneschal who would be

interested in taking over as Baronial Seneschal. My

warrant was due to expire in February but I have asked

and been granted an extension until after Ruby/

Investiture. Please contact me if are interested.

In Service,

Baron William

The Little Things

His Majesty and I have recently had the pleasure to attend

two "small" events in the last two weeks. First We travelled

north to the Barony of Dun Carraig, where We invested

Ragnarr and Lynette as the new Baron and Baroness. The

weather was fine, and the day passed with pleasantly with

much music, archery, rapier and armoured combat. I was

most pleased to see the Lochmere Arrow competition for

the first time. Next We traveled south to Misty Marsh for

Jester's Tournament, where the event staff took a theme and

ran with it! The event boasted games of chance in all ven-

ues, and We even got to enjoy watching children make

their own jester hats.

These events may have been at opposite ends of the King-

dom, but they shared much in common. While some might

call them "small" or "local" events, there were many who

traveled great distances to attend each. Both were well

planned, well attended and boasted excellent feasts. His

Majesty and I enjoyed ourselves very much, and applaud

the event staff who made these events possible. Some of

Our fondest memories of the SCA are of occasions that

took place at smaller events, where people have time to

relax and enjoy each others' company. Whether the event is

large or small, local or Kingdom, it's the little things that

add up to a great event, such as the site tokens, or the

smiles on the faces of the MOLs, having enough lavatory

tissue, or signs placed BEFORE the turn you are supposed

to make. Most importantly, it is the people. Our Kingdom

is great in spirit, and this is evident in Our travels. Thank

you all.

Warmest Regards,

Padraigin Regina

The Rumor Mill

By Otter Gossip

Well juicy news abounds from the highlighted event last

month….Yule! If you missed it you really missed out.

The church was festively decorated and folks were

dressed in their finest. The potluck was delicious!

Why, there’s Magda tasting the wares and

looking marvelous.

Court was exciting as we had special

guests attending. Baron William of Stor-

vik, Duke Ragnarr and Baroness Lynette

of Dun Carriag all came to our little shin-

dig!

Baron Augustin and Baroness Aine had

many awards to hand out to our deserving

populace. Lady Kilmeny and Lady Kadlin

were accepted into the Order of the Pha-

ros. Baron Kendrick received the Order of

La Bris de Mer. THLord

Henricus is seen here receiving a UFO.

Petite Marie was welcomed into the Or-

der of the Cornerstone. The Merlon of

Caer Mear was given

to Sir Bryce for host-

ing the Cross & Lily

Tournaments each

month. Even Their Majesties reached

out through Their Excellencies to

award William “Cookie” Barfoot his

AoA!

After court Duke Ragnarr held a short

ceremony, taking Brother Amos as his

squire.

Then there was

dancing and much

singing until the

evening’s end.

It was the most

memorable Yule and now I can’t

wait until next year!

Musings from the Mad Monk

By Brother Amos the Pious

Happy New Year! As we all know with

every New Year there is a chance for rein-

vention and growth. Some people make resolutions each

year and whether they keep them or not, it gives them

something to strive for. Someone once told me "Shoot for

the stars and even if you miss you may still hit the moon".

In this vein of thought I would like to encourage you to

take some time and think about your SCA dreams, goals

and things you want out of the society in the coming year.

As for me I have a few SCA resolutions.

My first goal is to become a better fighter. To do this I need

to fight as much as possible, get back in shape and practice

more than once a week. I also need to keep my armor and

weapons in good working order. Most importantly, I need

to take a more proactive role in the fighting community.

I would also like to learn more songs to sing, hopefully

ones that are not so common in Atlantia. I think it would be

fun to help start some kind of fighter based singing group

to showcase the talented fighters we have here in Atlantia.

I want to increase my knowledge and practice of the scribal

arts. I would like to learn how to better use period pigments

and mediums. I hope to make as many new scrolls as my

schedule permits.

My final resolution is to get my monthly article for The QD

finished and delivered to the chronicler by the 25th of each

month.

I hope this has inspired you to dream big for this new year.

Never fear to strive for the impossible because regardless

you will end up with something awesome, even if it is just

a really good story.
