AQUATICS DAY 2019Ashley Clarke Learning Area Coordinator Health amp Physical Education The 2019 Faith Aquatics Day was held in perfect conditions on Friday 8th February at the Nuriootpa Swimming Pool It was a historic day as Year 7 students joined us for the first time An U13rsquos age category was introduced and eight inaugural records were set
The Championship Events were held across most of the morning with some outstanding races across all age groups and a good level of representation from each Village Care Group
In the afternoon the focus switched to the Village based Novelty events where students worked hard to gain every point they could to help their village total All students are to be commended for their efforts across the entire day It was great to see younger students getting involved in both the Championship events and the Novelty events It was equally pleasing to see senior students encouraging and supporting the new students to our community
At the conclusion of the events all students and staff returned to Faith where Villages had lunch together before gathering in the BACC for the final results and awards
Thank you to staff and students who made the day such a success
Congratulations to students who made it through to the Swim Team trials and those who will be selected for the Faith Swim Team to compete in the SSSSA Swimming Championships on March 4th at the SA Aquatics Centre

Held on the second Sunday of February the morning is filled with colour and vibrancy The local wine fraternity Barons of Barossa arrive cloaked in robes of red and yellow Faith students arrive dressed in bright colours and flowered head pieces from yester-year The historic creaky wagon carries the dark sun ripened berries freshly harvested from a local Shiraz vineyard The community awaits and watches as the procession moves from the tree lined main street of Tanunda to the Tabor Lutheran church
DECLARATION OF VINTAGE While it may be easy to get caught up in the colour and elaborate ceremony of the day at the heart of this special event is a blessing Eight Faith students bring three baskets of vine ripened fruit to the altar of the church to be blessed As the local Pastor blesses the grapes the congregation of Barons community young and old thank God for the fruits of this land
ldquoOur pioneers came to this blessed land and live here And God you blessed them and their land They planted grain and vines And you God gave the harvest The land produced quality grapes for our famous wines We thank you God for this and for all the good things you give usrdquo
After the Blessing of the Grapes Ceremony Faith students guide the grapes down the main street of Tanunda to await the lsquofirst crushrsquo Here the community welcomes and celebrates the 2019 Winemaker of the Year and the 2019 Vigneron of the Year The vintage is forecast by the Barons ndash another quality year is promised by the wine fraternity who collectively share an unparalleled knowledge and wisdom of this region
Members of the community are invited to taste the first drops of vintage for themselves As the Winemaker and Vigneron of the year carefully place the blessed fruit through a vintage crusher Faith students work alongside the Young Ambassadors to share the juice with the crowds The sweet Shiraz juice leaving a special finish to an event that showcases the distinctive characters of the Barossa

OPEN CRICKETAshley Clarke Coach
MATCH REPORT ndash ROUND 1The Open Cricket team competed in Round 1 the 2019 Knockout Sport Cricket Competition on Tuesday 12th FebruaryThe game was against Nuriootpa High School and was played on Faithrsquos Eastern OvalBoth teams were fairly evenly matched which made for a good contest in what turned out to be a rather wet and cool dayFaith went into the field first and after Nuriootpa started to compile some runs left arm bowler Craig Dowse took 2 vital wickets to have the visitors 293 at drinks After drinks Ben Roennfeldt bowled a very tight spell in the process claiming 4 wickets He was well supported by Jayden Birchard who stepped up to bowl his full 7 overs and claim 3 wicketsNuriootpa were bowled out for 158 in the 35th over
The run chase did not begin well with both openers dismissed within the first 2 overs However Isaac Werner and Caleb Schwartz came together steadied the innings with some very patient batting Caleb going on to make 31 After Isaac was dismissed Daniel Bussenschutt did his best to lift the scoring rate hitting 2 monster sixes on his way to 25 Unfortunately wickets continued to fall leaving the final two batsmen with a lot to do Ethan Pfitzner and Archie Hadden formed a good partnership and gave the team a glimmer of hope with a flurry of boundaries in the final overs However it was a big ask and the final wicket fell in the 32 over with Faith still 38 runs short Faith 120 defeated by Nuriootpa High School 158Caleb Schwartz 31Daniel Bussenschutt 25Ben Roennfeldt 418Jayden Birchard 322Craig Dowse 217Dylan Birchard 119Well done to all students who played and also to those that trialled

My Highlight for the trip was certainly our lunchtime conversations with the Hon Stephan Knoll as we discussed many relevant and interesting topics My steak for main course was also a highlight Benjamin Roennfeldt
