TOILET TROUBLES!

Recently, we’ve had a couple of inci-

dents in and around the pool area.

While we understand there are rare

and unfortunate circumstances and in-

cidents, we do ask that you make sure your child goes to

the restroom BEFORE practice starts and that either

they or you clean up after them if there’s a mess. Please

remember only swimmers under the

age of 4 are allowed in the locker room

with a parent present.

Keep it CLEAN!

Head Start Registration coming in FEBRUARY! We are planning on having our invitation for regis-tration up in February for March kick-off. Spread the news to your summer swim friends and help your team get a leg up on the competition! More

details in February’s newsletter. Be on the lookout!

DON’T BE

AN EXCUSE

GIVER!

WORK TO

ACHIEVE

PERFEC-

TION!

No Swimmers are allowed to play, wait or roam outside without a parent. Please be sure your child enters the pool area be-

fore leaving. Once there, swimmers should be aware that they are not to go outside the pool area unless parent is there waiting for them or walking with

them.

SAFETY

FIRST!

Monthly Technique Focus Let’s start the new year right by making

a resolution to take one aspect of tech-

nique each month and work on it and work

on it and work on it until we get so

good at it that it becomes second na-

ture. January’s focus is perfecting

your STREAMLINE!!!

Every push, start, turn

should have a perfect streamline. Tight

arms around your head and head facing

down with a neutral spine. Body should

be rigid, abs tight and toes pointed.

Read all about it in this month’s Splash

magazine!

Page 3: Volume 4, Edition 1 Holiday Party · 01/13—Annual Holiday Party 2016-2017 Board of Directors LSST High Point Swimmer: Head Coach: Eddie Adams ... We are planning on having our invitation

Challenge Accepted! It’s very easy for swimmers to get in a routine of

events at our monthly swim meets and shy away

from the “harder” events, but one group of Lone

Star swimmers accepts the challenges put in front

of them. Some of our blue group swimmers are

showing they’ve got what it takes to swim “hard”.

I caught up with some of the blue group swimmers

that have been swimming these hard events to get

their take on what it takes.

You all have been practicing with the

blue group for a little over a year

now. What was it like making the ad-

justment from red group? Did you

find any challenges? SEAN: I found that

the transition was very difficult and tiresome.

MACKENZIE: It was a huge change in my opinion

from red group. It was hard at first doing intervals

almost identical to the high schoolers in the 7th

grade. Also the change from an hour and a half

practice to a two hour practice to me was a jump. I

found that the biggest challenge was having to be

more independent in working on my technique

than before in order to improve.

KAYLEE: Adjusting to blue group was a little chal-

lenging at first but became easier as the weeks

went by.

ANNAMARIE: Making me swim harder and need

more improvement on my dives. The challenge

for me was that I have to make the intervals during

sprint sets.

JOSEPH: It was easy for me. I knew I can do it. I

was challenged knowing that I need to swim hard-

er and faster during sprint sets.

What do you attribute to your success

in that group? MACKENZIE: I feel as though

I have gotten better through cross training with

other sports that I am involved in outside of Lone

Star. For instance I was involved with Water Polo's

2016 Junior Olympics, being on my middle school

volleyball team, and my neighborhood summer

league.

JOSEPH: Swimming with your goal & your best

during practice.

KAYLEE: I think it’s important to try my hardest at

each practice and not get discouraged.

ANNAMARIE: Taking time to learn and swim each

stroke correctly.

SEAN: drinking lots of water

You haven’t shied away from swim-

ming the “scary” events. I’m talking

about the 200 fly and 400 IM or dis-

tance free events. Why do you

choose them? ANNAMARIE: I want to see if

I can do it.

JOSEPH: I want to know how it feels like. I want to

try them at least one time.

MACKENZIE: I feel as though our practices are

geared around middle to longer distance events

which allows me to be better at these events than

maybe sprints.

SEAN: I like to challenge myself and the more you

swim those events the better you get.

KAYLEE: Because they challenge me and you’ll

have to do them eventually

Do you feel it’s helpful to have either

your friends or some of the older kids

also swim those events? KAYLEE: Yes

because they encourage you

JOSEPH: Yes, we need encouragement from the

older kids.

MACKENZIE: Yes because we all talk about how

after this event we need to plan each others’

“funerals”. :)

SEAN: Yes it's fun to swim the same events as

your friends.

ANNAMARIE: Yes, I am not as nervous swimming

alone. We swim together as a team.

Who do you see either on our team or

outside of our team as a motivating

person in swimming?? JOSEPH: Macken-

zie has motivated me to swim harder and faster.

ANNAMARIE: Allyson

(my best friend from

LSST) has motivated me to swim faster. We are

also like cheering for each other.

KAYLEE: Ashley Brem

MACKENZIE: I have several from the various

teams I do sports with. On my list are: Kayla Allen,

Payton Silburn, Coach Webb, Coach Moss, Jen-

nifer Liang, Coach Judy, and Coach Sam.

SEAN: Coach Judy

It takes a lot of hard work to make that transition

up to blue group. Once you’re there, it’s time to

start thinking about swimming those hard events

but have no fear, Lone Star has some experienced

swimmers that can help and encourage you. Great

job KayLee, Mackenzie, Sean, Annamarie and

Joseph.

Keep up the good work!

Motivational Words

KAYLEE The first time is about finishing, not

necessarily about speed

MACKENZIE Don't be afraid if you can do it in prac-

tice you can do it in a meet. Listen to the tips your coaches tell you. You can do it, if you set your mind to it.

ANNAMARIE Don’t be afraid, believe in yourself.

Don’t worry about finishing last in your event.

JOSEPH Swim your best. It is possible as long as

you put your mind to it.

SEAN Coach Judy will eventually make you

swim them might as well get the first one over with
