I Found Out What My Mom Did During the Summer of 69by Alex Hailman

There is a very good song from the 1980s by Bryan Adams called Summer of 69, and as my mom was alive then (although she was quite young), I asked her what she did during the summer in the year 1969. Its a cool story and I was told would like to share it with you. My mothers immediate family was her, her mother, her father, and her brother. At that point, they owned a summer house in St. Thomas. Every year, they would spend the summer there. Now on July 20th of that year, the Apollo 11 mission, the first space mission to have a moon landing, hit land on the moon. It was late at night when it broadcast, but my mothers parents knew that history was being made and wanted to see it. The TV was in the family room of the beach house, which was seldom used. As it was connected to the porch, the floor was a hard tile. However, it was so late that after the moon landing, my mom and her brother were so tired that they fell asleep! They were glad they got to witness the first broadcast though. So yes, just a little anecdote about that. Its not much, but its a story! and a pun.

A few days ago, many people (two hundred people) jumped into the Charles River in Boston. So many people had so much fun that theyre planning to do it another day, too: Saturday, July 25. Youve probably heard that youre not even supposed put your hand in the water, because you might get sick, but because of efforts taken the past couple of years, youre allowed to swim in the water with a permit. In fact, its gotten so much cleaner, that its the cleanest city/urban river in North America. The reason the Charles River was/is so dirty is because before there were proper sewage systems running through Boston, the sewage got dumped (without many people realizing) into the Charles River. But, since 1995, more than one million gallons of sewage have been taken out. Most rivers have grades, A being the best, and so on. A few years ago, you could only boat on the Charles River, but now, its from a B+ to an A-, depending on how much rainfall there is. Many people hope that one day soon, youll be able to swim in the Charles River without any permit, whenever you want.

Present Day 0400 Hours

I woke up in a dark room. I looked around me. I was sitting in a hard metal chair. I could just make out two silhouettes standing in the center of the room, talking about money (what else, right?). I looked to my right, to see my sister still unconscious in another metal chair. The two guys came toward my sister and I and shook us awake (I guess they didnt notice that I was already awake).

I will now explain my master plan to both of you. Since it wont matter anyway. A man said to us and then chuckled afterward, I sent someone to capture you. But unfortunately, the FBI got involved and they sent the man in the blue Toyota to protect you. My men followed that man and captured him. And then we were going to capture you but you had a little bit of luck. He didnt seem happy at his last remark. My organization is called A.R.C.H.I.V.E., Assimilation of Ravening and Coercion of Hierarchical and Interrogation of Vocations and Extermination of them. Anyway enough chit-chat. Men! Finish them.

My dream house is already planned: it is 5 floors along with a attic and basement, fully furnished. The first floor would consist of a guest bed and bathroom, and a 4 car garage complete with a workshop. It would have the first of two pools, too; the reason that there are 2 is because the 1st floor pool is for the guests. The reason that the guest bedroom is on the first floor is that the elevator is family only. The 1st floor also consists of a kitchen and guest living room. The second floor would consist of two master bedrooms only joined by a bathroom in the back of both of them. There would be 2 kid bedrooms and bathrooms to prevent fighting. In the corner there would be the elevator. The third floor would be totally dedicated to the kids and their friends with a pool, a game room and a snack pantry. The fourth would be the same: totally dedicated to kids. But this time it would be a gym and the elevator. The fifth floor would be a ultra living room and a jacuzzi and spa, along with a wrap around glass floored porch. The attic would be entirely exercise area with the elevator in the corner and the basement would be the elevator, laundry space, and outdoor things space. The total size would as tall as an 8 story apartment building and it would have 4,000,000 square feet of floor space, making it the largest house in the world. If I wanted to I could make it 5 stories taller making it 8,000,000 square feet floor space and as tall as a 14 story apartment building.

It was just a normal Saturday night, but my mom had a surprise for us. She left five envelopes on the counter, the first of which we were supposed to open at 3:00 pm. The letter in that envelope directed us to a Chinese restaurant called Golden Temple. It was near BU, where my mom teaches during the day. Dinner was delicious, but after we still had the remaining four envelopes. Each had one of our names on it. My mom gave them out after we were all done eating; my sister didnt like the suspense. When we opened the envelopes, we found that they each had a ticket to Cirque du Soleil! We were so surprised!

The show that we saw was called Varekai. The description of the show was A captivating forest inhabited by whimsical and enchanted creatures. It was amazing and indescribable! The Night Watch is stolen! By Patricia Arens

I am so excited! Later this afternoon I am going to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Holland. And its only a few minutes away from my hotel. I cant wait to see all the interesting monuments, especially the paintings, like The Night Watch (De Nachtwacht- Dutch) by Rembrandt. Ive heard that it is a really nice experience to stay there in front of it and see how big and meaningful it is. But Ive still got 2 hours left till my tour starts. And I am so tired...After only a few minutes I feel how my eyelids start to close, slowly.

Suddenly, something wakes me up. It couldve been a noise, but I cant remember. I look around. This is strange. It looks like if Im in the Rijksmuseum. I recognize some paintings that Ive seen in my artbooks. Wait... this means that The Night Watch must be somewhere around here, but its not. Just a huge blank spot on the wall. No, this cant be true! Somebody mustve stolen my favourite painting. A policeman that was walking around tells me they need help to find it. I immediately offer to help with the research. Ive got a feeling that its going to be a prodigious adventure!

I discover a door in the floor that leads to a bike path, right under the paintings wall. Maybe the person who took it escaped using this hidden path. I open the door, carefully. I am right! He is down there! But the painting is humongous its nearly impossible for five people to carry it. Did he take it by his own? I dont see anyone else around. Anyway, I slowly go down the stairs. The person who took the painting doesnt even see me. I arrest him. With the policemens help, we hang The Night Watch back, on its wall. Everybody is so happy and relieved and they congratulate me!

But before I can think about my mysterious adventure, everything gets dark. I open my eyes and I am in my hotel room again, in my bed. I feel like a hero; Ive found the stolen painting! Now its time to admire it, for real, because my tour will start soon.

1. Find your style spirit Menagerie--Go on pinterest and search for style icons. That should help you find one ;)

2. Label it--Define it to help clarify your look.

3. Pictures!--take pictures for future references

4. Choose a signature piece--example: a necklace with the letter of your first name, a bow, a rose pin

5. Take note of the copiers--they be jealous ;)

6. Identify the odd piece out--make people stare. Make people interested!

7. Play to your strengths--If they compliment you on it, keep wearing it!

8. Dont forget hair and makeup--even though we focus on the outfit, dont forget adding some eyeliner and styling your hair is great addition to your look

1. Put decorated tape on phone cases, picture frames, headphones, folders, pencils, pens, and shoes and make them extremely decorated.2. Get transfer paper and a shirt and make a cool t shirt by printing photos on transfer paper and ironing on the the image onto the shirt for 10 minutes; then let cool and pull off the paper and there is your awesome shirt, this also works with any piece of clothing.3. Make a photo heart by arranging photos on a wall in a heart shape. Make sure all the photos are the same size.4. Make paper flowers and attach a stick to the flower. Then fill a jar with anything and put the flower inside.5. Make a lava lamp by filling a tall jar full with vegetable oil and fill the rest with water. then add food coloring that will make the water colorful. Split an alka seltzer into 8 pieces and drop one piece into the jar and watch the water go up and down. To make this a lamp you can put LED lights under the jar.

Hey lovelies!!! Crushes, crushes, crushes, I have been excited to write this article since this was the year I have become a little, lets say, boy crazy. I have become obsessed with the want of a boyfriend and obsess with my attraction, but the biggest thing is the crush I developed over a guy at school. Wont say his name, but lets just say this crush has been lasting for a LONG time. Read this article if you have a crush either from school or some where else and you really really really want to keep in touch with him this summer. This tips should help you.

1. Drops hints you want to keep in touch: Put your number in his yearbook, that should get some things started ;)

2. Act soon: Better late than never!! Make plans early in the summer and act off of them by making more. Soon, hell be crushing on your if he isnt already!

3. Set a group get together: A great way to stay in touch is invite his and your friends out for something together. Maybe go to the arcade or see a movie or get something for dinner, since who doesnt love food!?

4. Surprise him with a message if you havent talked in awhile: It will make him happy to see you still think and talk with him. One thing I suggest not to overflow his phone with messages because it make give him the wrong message.

5. Ask him out: Go ahead! Get things started! Do it, do it, you can do it, just keep saying that!! You may be scared but take advantage of the free time summer gives you. Take a breath, brush your hair, and ask him out!

6. Wanna take things slow, do daytime plans: If you two get together it is perfectly fine to do things slow so you can invite him for some ice cream after getting lunch at a pizza parlor.

7. Send him a postcard: If youre going somewhere, be sure to send him a postcard. it shows you are thinking of him :D
