Brussels, Ill.- Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge will hold several free programs for families this spring and summer.

A Sunset Hike will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 29 starting in the Gilbert Lake Division parking area. Participants should register by April 28. The group will listen for frogs and watch for owls beginning their nightly activities.

The annual Mother’s Day Birding Hike will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 7 beginning in the Gilbert Lake Division parking area. Participants should register by May 5. The popular Sounds of Spring Frog Call Walk will be held from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at the Refuge Visitor Center. Participants should register by May 5. On this special evening walk, participants will enjoy the sounds of the frog calls that fill the air at Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge. This program is great for kids 4 and up.

For one last adventure before school starts, an Outdoor Explorers Day Camp will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 2-4 at the refuge visitor center. This free three day, day-camp will introduce children entering grades 3-5 to various outdoor activities including hiking, geocaching, canoeing, bird watching, and much more. Space is limited, register by July 15. Children should bring their own lunch and snacks and dress to be outside most of the day. As monarch butterflies begin migrating south in late summer Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge invites the public to become citizen scientists and report monarch butterfly sightings and seasonal changes in the environment during the

Monarch Butterfly Citizen Science Program at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. Participants should register by Aug. 12. At this program, participants will learn the stages of a monarch butterfly’s life cycle, how to watch for and report these stages, and how to attract monarch butterflies to their backyards. Then participants will have the opportunity to register to become a citizen scientist with Journey North and share monarch butterfly sightings. Call Your

Illinois House Representative today!

Anti-Second Amendment legislators have advanced

HB3160 Lethal Violence Order of Protection, out of

committee. This bill can be brought up for a vote at

any time.

What if you have a dispute with one of your own

family or your in laws who are anti-gun? One call to

the authorities and you are stripped of your Second

Amendment rights and your firearms without a

hearing. You will be put in the position of having to

prove your innocence and eligibility. In many cases, it

could be many months and cost you thousands of

dollars before your property is returned and your

rights restored.

This is another broadly written bill that could violate

your constitutional rights simply because you own or

decide to purchase a firearm and someone related to

you by marriage or lives in your residence decides that

must make you a dangerous person, a threat to

yourself or others!

Illinois currently has some of the strongest domestic

violence order of protection laws in the nation. The

matters addressed by this bill, including suicide

prevention, should be dealt with in the mental health

community, not the criminal justice system.

Call your State Representative and urge him/her to

oppose this bill when it comes up for a vote. Click

here to find your legislator and phone number.

HB3160 must be stopped NOW.

URGENT! Call NOW to Oppose

HB3160!

Jacob Inman

Thank You to ALL of our

Volunteers!

It is quite an undertaking to put on

a hugely successful event like this year after year - from

planning to collecting donations, from

setting up the hall to arranging raffle

baskets and prize packages, from

manning all the raffles to keeping the

finances in order, from selling tickets to

keeping seating arrangements

straight, and the list goes on.

All of this is accomplished by MWHI officers,

members and non-members.

Thank you for supporting MWHI

and our cause!

Two men were hunting together. One asked the other, “Did you see that?”

“No, what?”

“An elk just stepped out into that clearing, then turned and ran back into the woods.”

A little further down the trail, the one asked the other, “Did you see that?”

“No. What was it?”

“A bear just crossed the trail not 200 yards ahead.”

The two continued on in silence. Later in the day the one asked the other, “Did you see that?”

Irritated at his friend, the other hunter responded, “Yes! Yes I did!”

“Then why did you step in it?”

Illinois DNR Newsbits - April 2016 Youth Turkey Season: Youth hunters bagged a preliminary total of 1,049 birds during the 2016 Illinois Spring Youth Wild Turkey Hunting Season. During the South Zone season on March 26-27, youth turkey harvest was 450, compared with 354 in 2015. The youth turkey harvest in the North Zone on April 2-3 was 599 turkeys, compared with 547 in 2015. Youth Hunting License: A change in Illinois law for the 2016 Illinois license year allows any resident youth hunter age 18 and under (formerly 16 and under) to purchase a Youth Hunting License, which does not require the hunter to have a Hunter Education Card. A youth hunter with this license may hunt only while supervised by a parent, grandparent, or guardian who is 21 years of age or older and has a valid Illinois hunting license. The youth hunter shall not hunt nor carry a hunting device unless the youth is accompanied by and under close personal supervision of these individuals. 2016 Illinois licenses are available online or from IDNR license and permit vendors. Check Your Boat Registration: The IDNR reminds boat owners in Illinois to check their three-year boat registration/decal and renew their registration if it expires on June 30, 2016. Renewing watercraft registration can be done online through the IDNR website at www.dnr.illinois.gov or by phone by calling 1-866-867-3542. To renew registration, have available the watercraft’s Illinois registration number, the first six characters of the watercraft’s hull ID number, the first three letters of the registered owner’s last name, and a credit card. For details on Illinois watercraft registration requirements and three-year boat registration fees, check the IDNR website at www.dnr.illinois.gov/recreation/boating. Non-motorized watercraft, including canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, or sail boards in Illinois, are no longer required to be titled/registered in Illinois, unless the vessels have a motor or sail. Non-motorized watercraft owners are required to purchase an Illinois Water Usage Stamp for $6.00 per calendar year (for each of their first three vessels, and $3.00 each for any additional vessels). An agent fee of $0.50 is charged per vessel. The 2016 Illinois Water Usage Stamp is valid through December 31, 2016. Water Usage Stamps are available over-the-counter from IDNR license and permit vendors. Find a vendor through the IDNR website at http://www.dnr.illinois.gov/LPR/Pages/LicensePermitVendors.aspx
