Pointing Ahead to Christ

As I write the Pastor’s article it is not even Thanksgiving and the stores are filled with Christmas wonder. Evergreen trees, Christmas lights, ornaments, and figurines of all sorts line the aisles.

As you walk through your neighborhood and as you walk through the stores, look for the signs of Christmas. Which ones point to the coming of the Christ Child? Which ones point away from Him?

Advent is from a Latin word that means, “coming”. During Advent we look forward to the birth of Jesus, salvation, and the coming of eternal life. We focus on His coming as a baby and His return when Jesus will come to earth again someday.

Luke 1:31-33 speaks of the angel’s an-nouncement to Mary: “You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father, David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; His king-dom will have no end.”

The Scriptures tell us that Jesus will be given a throne - He will reign and His kingdom will never end. His kingdom is born in each one of us as we welcome His coming. How can you look forward to Jesus’ coming?

As you decorate your house for Christ-mas, look for things that point to Christ. For example, point out the star at the top of the tree. The evergreen tree points to the gift of eternal life. Christmas cards and letters an-nounce the coming and birth of a king.

In the busy and often hectic days of the holidays, pray that the Holy Spirit will fill your heart and life with Christ. Center the holiday activities around the spiritual richness of Christ.

Regularly worship with the entire family. Invite neighbors and friends to the many ser-vices in December which point us to Christ.

Fill your cup this Advent and Christmas with spiritual food which will satisfy.

See you in worship!

Pastor Janet Warnes

OUTREACH:

NEIGHBORHOOD OUTREACH

Invite neighbors and friends to festive services in De-cember. Most people who do not attend worship on a regular basis are just waiting to be asked.

VO L UME 56, ISSUE 12

Dear Members, Past Members, Former Pastors/Interns, and Friends of Melo:

Melo Lutheran Church is in the process of planning for its 125th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday,

June 24, and Sunday, June 25, 2017. The theme that has been chosen is “Melo Thru the Years--Past, Present and Future.” On the 24th we will meet at 4-5 p.m. for fellowship, 5-7 p.m. for supper, and 7-8 p.m. for an Anni-

versary program. On the 25th at 9:30 a.m. we will have a worship service followed with fellowship, coffee, and cake. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church will be joining us for the morning worship services that day.

Thank You to all who participated in the Pancake Dinner. Chances on the quilt are still available, as well as t-shirts. T-shirts can be pre-ordered in white or black with the anniversary date on the front, in sizes youth

small to adult 3X. The cost is $15; to order, please contact John Johnson at [email protected] or phone 745-4992 or text 701-740-2006.

Since Melo did compile an extensive history book covering its first 100 years, we will be assembling a

smaller pamphlet of Melo’s and your family’s histories just for the past 25 years. We will not be including any

pictures in the pamphlet. If you would like to have your family’s history for the last 25 years included in this booklet, please send your information, memories, family’s favorite Bible verse, etc. to the person listed below by

January 1, 2017.

We hope you will be able to come and help us celebrate Melo Lutheran Church’s 125th Anniversary.

Very truly yours,

Marlene Carlson 16510 260th Avenue NW

Warren, MN 56762

AWAY IN A MANGER

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed

The little Lord Jesus lay down His sweet head.

The stars in the bright sky looked down where

He lay; The little Lord Jesus asleep in the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes,

But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes.

I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky;

And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay

Close by me forever, and love me, I pray.

Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,

And take us to Heaven to live with Thee there.
