Is there light at the end of the tunnel for the Jones Log Barn project?

After a journey of nine years, the answer is yes! Excitement is building as the foundation and stormwater work of Phase I is completed and Phase II work is un-derway.

There is only one thing standing between the Trust and the finish line on completing the Jones Log Barn reconstruction project; and that is . . . additional funding.

Once rebuilt, the historic barn will join DuPortail House and the Federal Barn to create a focal history center in Tredyf-frin Township. The cen-ter will honor our heri-tage and preserve his-tory for our children and grandchildren.

The Trust is grateful to our friends for their past support; we now ask for your help to complete the barn reconstruction.

Understanding the im-portance of the home stretch, the Trust re-cently received a $25,000 donation (donor to be announced shortly) to help us finish Phase II. We appreciate this gen-

erous gift but understand that many are not in the financial position to do-nate at this level, . . . how can you help us achieve our goal?

Purchase tickets or be a sponsor for the 6th Annual Historic House Tour . . . attend our fall lecture se-ries . . . dance the night away with the sounds of the 50’s at In the Mood . . . or make a contribution to our Capital Campaign.

We are rebuilding the Jones Log Barn for the community and we need your help to reach the light at the end of the tunnel.

Can you help us reach

the finish line?

T he members of the Capital Campaign

Committee have been meeting with community leaders and with long-time THPT supporters, seeking their financial support for the Capital Campaign. Thanks to those efforts a challenge gift of $10,000 was met adding much needed monies to the Capital Campaign Fund.

This project is the ‘cause’ that actually led to the creation of the Tredyffrin Historic Preservation Trust. Since its inception in 2001, more than $200,000 has been raised through the vari-ous activities of the Trust. In addition to repaying a $25,000 loan to Tredyffrin Township, the Trust has expended money on the professional fees of engi-neers and architects who have prepared the neces-sary drawings required to complete the project. Monies have also been spent on the recent con-struction of the log barn’s foundation and associ-ated stormwater work required by the ‘new’ structure.

As of July 31st, the Capi-tal Campaign has raised

over $62,000. This comes from the gifts of 57 individual donors and includes one grant from DCNR. The Trust is ex-tremely grateful for this support.

The public phase of the campaign begins this Fall. The goal is to raise the final $200,000 needed to get the logs put back together, add the stonework and the roof, and complete the path which will lead to the upper level of the barn. To help the Trust complete the re-construction of the Jones Log Barn in 2011, in its tenth anniversary year, will be a great achievement and a won-derful gift to the commu-nity.

Thank you for helping us

to build our history, one

log at a time!

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE

F or the past two years, the Trust has

been working with Frens and Frens architects and with Chester Valley Engi-neers to complete the designs for the recon-struction of the Jones Log Barn. The Zoning Hear-ing Board approvals were given late last fall and the Certificate of Appropriate-ness was granted earlier this year. Thanks to the contributions of our many supporters over the years, enough funds were on hand to begin Phase One of this long-awaited project.

Construction work began in early May. The foun-dation for the log struc-ture was built and the required work relating to stormwater management was started. Some addi-tional grading will be done around the Federal Barn and preparing the foundation walls for their stone façade will com-plete this phase of the

With the Capital Cam-paign ongoing, funds are being raised to bring those historic logs back together again. This is an exciting time for the Trust. We are especially grateful to DuPortail House, Inc., our partner in historic preservation, for agreeing to provide this historic setting for the Jones Log Barn. We thank the DuPortail House Board and the sur-rounding community for its understanding during construction.

The next phase includes bringing the logs to the site, rebuilding the log barn structure upon its new foundation, installing a new roof and, then add-ing exterior siding. The first part of Phase Two will begin in 2011.

T his year the town-ship’s Environmental

Advisory Council (EAC) is again sponsoring the Na-tive Plant Sale at DuPor-tail House on Saturday, October 9, 10 AM - 2 PM.

The Yellow Springs Farm www.yellowspringsfarm.com will be selling native trees and perennials suitable for local yards and gar-dens. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the EAC and
