There is a still lot of room at this rally. You could even come on Friday for leftovers. The Rally Schedule is coming together; however we still need rally hosts. During the rally planning meeting members were asked to check out areas and parks. The members that did this were not necessarily signed up to be rally hosts. Hosting can be simple like coordinating a potluck or complex like having a catered meal. At Hoodsport Dana did hamburgers on Thursday night and Tacos on Friday night with a potluck Sat- urday night. Doing meals like hamburgers or tacos does take shopping and preparation time. Its the rally host decision how much time they want to spend. If you are interested in being a tally host and have not done it, just ask for help. The members that have done it are willing to help you get started. You could also be a co-host at a rally to get your feet wet. To help the rally host in planning, the club is going to start tracking meals used at rallies. For example, Rod and Teresa did spaghetti at the Cannon Beach rally. That meal worked out very well and everyone was fed. If we track the amount of food (e.g., sauce, bread and noodles) and the number of people we can use that information for future rally planning. Another example where this would have helped was the pizza. Dana and I did pizza in Gig Harbor a few years ago and had lots of left overs. We did pizza again at Cannon Breach and again had lots left overs. Tracking how much pizza was purchased at Gig Harbor would have help in planning the food at Cannon Beach. Dana has confirmed the Gig Harbor Rally in April of 15. If you are interested in either hosting or Co-host this rally please let us know. At the Cannon Beach Rally the board met and discussed several issues: The first was a Dues Increase. At the annual meeting the board was asked to come up with a new dues structure. The consensus was to raise the dues to $30 a year and discount them to $25 if paid by January 31. The purpose of providing a discount if paid before January 31 is to encourage due to be paid on time. In the past several years the Treasurer (Dana Suttell) and the Membership Chair (Lee Casebeer) have been collecting dues as late as April. We are hoping that the change will encourage early dues payment. It was decided not to provide multiyear discounts, however there is nothing in the by-laws that prevent paying dues for multiple years. Dana has made chang- es to her record keeping so multiyear dues can be tracked. That being said we would ask you to limit it to up to 4 year in advance, as it does require tracking. Dues renewal is coming up soon and the treasurer (Dana) is ready to process your renewals now. The second issue was Rally Registration . With the rally planning we are doing some of rallies could be very popular and have limited availability of sites (like Prosser). In the past we used the policy of signing up in the order received. This worked well when we were doing all the signups by snail mail. Then we started using PayPal. The electronic payments are processed immediately and Dana gets a notification. So we ran in to a problem with the Cannon Beach rally. Since we were at the FMCA Rally in August we had not got mail in 3 weeks. When we picked up the mail, there was rally registration forms that were post marked before some of the PayPal registrations.

Several of you have asked about the NWCC banners many of us fly at our ral-

lies. They make a great presence wherever we are. Our coaches even made

it on the evening news in Redmond at FMCA because the banners made us stand

out. We have been asked to make another batch. We are now taking pre or-

ders and when we have 6 we will have the printing done and complete them.

Total cost is 40.00. This includes the banner, pole, ground stake, bag and

marker. They are ready to use when you receive them.

Please send your request to be on the waiting list to [email protected],

or see the web site for an order form. We will collect the funds when we

begin the construction process, and deliver at rallies. Dana Suttell

It is time to commit to this year’s Thanksgiving Holi-day Rally. Many club members spend this time of year with family members. For those of us that do not have family close by and would like to be in Portland at Thanksgiving, come join us at the Portland/Fairview RV Park in east Por tland, off the I-84 freeway. We have access to the clubhouse for our gatherings & meals. Mark your social calendars for November 26th through the morning of the 30th for the 3rd annual holi-day rally. As in the past, Coachless “drive-ins” are welcome to attend the potluck Thursday meal or at any other time. You are welcome to bring family members with you. The park is offering us the Good Sam rate of $36 + tax ($38.52) per night if we have the reserved 10 sites filled. The park has an October 26 deadline for the club to pay the first night’s deposit on the sites we have reserved. So, if you are coming please let us know soon by e-mailing us at [email protected]. An online registration form is available under the rally link on our website (www.nwccers.org). We hope to see you there. For more details contact us, Kris at 503-807-9936 or Lee at 503-459-1332.

Last month I wrote about a safety shut off for the absorption refrigerator that shut the unit off before it overheats. While doing the work I discovered that County Coach installed a fan under the condenser to remove heat faster. My fan was inoperable. I removed and it was dead. When they installed the fan they used a test point on the control board to operate the fan. As best I can determine test point is grounded when the unit is in the cooling cycle. The test point is also dead. I put a thermostat on the flue cover to operate the fan and installed a new fan. We will see if it cools any better. Dou you have a fan? Does it work?

Dana and I are looking forward to Thanksgiving at Fairview/Portland RV Park, hope to see many of you there. Frank Suttell President Northwest County Coachers

Subject: Photo Fee or Fine by National Park Service The National Park Service has proposed to enforce its regulation to have us pay a fee or a fine for taking photos using a scene in the na-tional parks. Better be careful about what you do with that photo you just took in a U.S. Forest (Photo: Thinkstock) Hey hikers, that scenic forest photo you just posted on Instagram may cost you a thousand dollar fine. According to a proposed update to U.S. Forest Service regulations, still photography or video taken in any of its 439 Federal Wilderness Areas is subject to permitting (costing up to $1,500) or you can face a $1,000 fine per photo. A little-noticed USFS “interim rule” has been in place for four years, and is now being updated to include new restrictions on vaguely defined “commercial filming” in wilderness areas. The new regulation was set to go into effect at the end of October, but due to a recent social me-dia and political uproar, the USFS has graciously allowed the public to comment on the regulation an extra month until December 3. You can post your opinions their website, but keep in mind, the USFS says it will merely “consider such input” but it “may not be implemented, and we wish for the public to understand that.” Here's what I wrote to Congressional people from my Texas area: Senator Cruz: Request you gather Senate support to nullify the proposed action by the National Park Service to charge a fee for families and friends to take photos utilizing a park scene in the background. According to the National Park Service, its staff will impose a fine upon anyone taking a photo without a permit. Why, do we as taxpayers who own the National Parks and support the National Park Service, have to pay either a permit fee or face a fine for a photo of ourself, a friend or family member with a park scene? Are we subject to a home search by federal officers for photos we may have taken in the past without acquiring a park photo permit? Please stop this action by the National Park Service. Thanks, Calvin Williams, Retired Air Force Colonel

Cannon Beach Rally Sept 2014

Well we couldn’t have asked for better weather for September along the Oregon Coast. It was beautiful and warm.

I hope everyone had a good time with the numerous things there are to do in the area.

We had a great pizza dinner Thursday night that was kindly provided to us by

Then our GEO cachers were off to find their treasures, and some of you took the

opportunity to just relax (Vern). Friday night we had a spaghetti dinner with salad, bread and an enormous

(Costco) cake that we quickly put some candles on and wished Bev Carrington a very a happy birthday, she turned *%. We also played a game where I applied a

sticker of a famous person on everyone’s back and you had to guess who you were. Bev Carrington aka known as “Cher” won that prize.

Vern sold 2 of his rocking chairs for a whopping 1200.00 all to be donated to the Mitochondrial Fund our 2014 charity.

We very much enjoyed putting this rally together but I will list some of the things that I would take into consideration next time.

1. Don’t pick a park you haven’t seen.

2. Order less Pizza

3. Follow my daughter’s suggestion on cooking spaghetti noodles.

We also had a couple of new members for their first rally and we signed up a couple more. Thanks to all that attended.

Hi, Teresa. I had a couple of the “newbies” ask about where we got our shirts, so I thought maybe it might be time to re-cycle the article that we put in a couple of years ago. If you don’t need it for the next issue, just scrap it. If you have any questions, just give me a call. Happy September! Glenda (Vern, too! In 2009, after the occasional off-hand remark by one NWCC member or another, some of the members agreed that it would be nice to have a “club” shirt with a logo representational of the special character of our club. To that end, we set about finding something that might work. We had worked with a lady named Colleen while developing an embroidery pattern for the high school equestrian team with which our daughter and granddaughters have been affiliated. When we saw her at one of the meets in early 2009, she let us browse through all of her catalogs. When we found a design that we thought might do the job and determined that it would be possible to incor-porate the CC logo in the finished picture, we sent the idea to the Board for approval. When we next saw Colleen, we sat down at her computer and set up the program for the design on the shirts that were purchased in time for the rally and annual meeting at Premier in Salem in August, 2009, and that you’ll see being sported at rallies. Then, in 2010, a permanent logo was developed which we now see as the banner on all official documents, our newsletter and our badg-es. It seemed appropriate to contact Colleen once more to see what she could do about setting up the new image in case someone would like to have it embroidered on a shirt. Her reply was, “No problem!” and she added it to her files. She subsequently put the new logo on a couple of shirts already in our closet and assured me that the logos can be embroidered on nearly anything anyone might want deco-rated. (She did some camp-chair backs for us recently and also put our names on the “everybody-has-one” carry bags that get so much use at the rallies.) Colleen keeps both of our NWCC logos in her files, and will gladly put either (or both) of them on one of the many garments in the cata-logs on her website, or on one already in your closet. She’s very accommodating that way and will adapt to your needs. She travels to equine events around the Northwest during the season, and may even be at a show near your hometown. Her website calendar will tell you where she’ll be next, if not at home in Corvallis. Check out her website if you’re interested. She might even have some designs in her catalog for other projects you may have in mind. Tell her Glenda sent you, and, before you ask, no, I’m not on the payroll. I just think she does good work at reasonable prices. www.beelartembroidery.com CELL: 541-740-2943

We have more new club members.

First there is a biographical write up provided by Betty

Brewer.

We are Betty and Terry Brewer new members. We are long time

owners of a Country Coach having purchased our first In-

trigue in 1997. Our present 1999 Country Coach Magna served

as our full time home for six years. We now have a home in

the Foothills of Yuma and enjoy our summers in the Northwest

along the Clark Fork River east of Sandpoint, Idaho. We av-

erage almost 12,000 miles a year traveling. We've taken the

rig throughout all of Mexico and down to Belize. We've tak-

en her to Alaska and to Newfoundland. We enjoy being sight

seeing tourists. One year Terry plans what we do and I get

to plan the next year. Another emerging hobby has become up-

grading the motorhome. Our beautiful new paint job was done

in Indiana this past summer.

Thanks,

Betty Brewer

Our other August new members are Kathy Esslinger & David

Glen. Kathy & David call Ashland, Oregon home and were re-

ferred to our club by Bev & Mike Carrick. Kathy & David have

a Portuguese Water Dog named Zeke that travels with them in

their 2006, 45 ft. Magna. They list their favorite actiivtes

as Golf, Bridge, Dog showing/training.

We look forward to meeting & learning more about our new

members at an upcoming event.

During the Redmond Governing Board meeting, the Board voted to reinstate the FMCAssist at no cost to the membership. The Board elected to fund the program for the first year from the savings account in the amount ap-proximately $300,000. By now, you should have received the October edition of Family Motorcoaching magazine. Beginning on page 10, Executive Director, Jerry Yeatts, covers the schedule of benefits of the FMCAssist program. Of important note is the fact that Seven Corners must be notified before benefits are utilized as this is not a reimbursement type policy. To arrange for any FMCAssist services, call 877-202-4176 or 317-582-2619. Calls from Mexico may be made col-lect to the 317-582-2619 number. Some of you may have paid for the Assist plan in the past. If you recently paid, Seven Corners has informed FMCA that there will be no reimbursement. Barbara and I attended the Northwest Area planning meeting for the NWA rally to be held at the Mill Casino June 23-26, 2015. This rally will be a split venue due to the property we parked on last time not being available. The casino has secured a paved parking lot approximately one mile from the casino as the alternate site. Shuttles will provide transportation from there to the casino. Also a hospitality tent will be on site to provide morning coffee and donuts. The casino is also providing a hospitality suite at the casino for the convenience of rally attendees. The final planning meeting will be held at the casino April 20-23, 2015. The NWA pays for two coaches, normally the National Director and the club president, to attend the meeting. If either cannot attend, then alternates may be appointed by the club president by notification to the NWA secretary. Take a look on page 65 of the FMCA magazine. Recognize anyone? Annual Business Meeting Minutes Swiss Sportmen’s Club - Bonney Lake,Washington

September 23,2014

The meeting was called to Order at 1:00 p.m. Kathie Balogh, President and Karen Pratt, Acting Secretary, were in attendance. Arvin Spofford, Sr. Vice President, Kent Pratt, Don Schleuse, and Judy Lehenbauer, Vice Presi-dents and Andy Balogh Immediate Past President were in attendance. The meeting began with an invocation by Dave Owens. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Arvin Spofford. The roll call was taken and chapter delegates identified for voting purposes. A quorum was established. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was waived. Judy Lehenbauer moved to accept the minutes that were emailed previously to Executive Board Members and Chapter Officers. The motion was seconded and passed. Karen Pratt, Treasurer, reported the balance on hand in checking as of September 15, 2014 is $ 10,879.82. The previous balance as of May 31, 2014 was $ 8,060.34. We also have $ 76,341.05 in our savings account for total Cash on Hand of $87,220.87. The report was accepted and will be filed with the meeting minutes. Fred Royce reported for the Nominating Committee: Fred reported that Bobbi Radford was running for a Vice President position, but withdrew for personal reasons, leaving Kent Pratt and Don Schleuse, incumbents, both run-ning for re-election along with Dennis Martin. Karen Pratt is running for Secretary, unopposed, and Kathy McBride and Barbara Schleuse are both running for Treasurer. Unfinished Business: There was none. New Business: Kathie reported on the Redmond Rally. There were 1,474 family coaches and a total of 1,876 with vendors and show coaches. The profit, according to Chris Lusk should meet budget - $57,000.00 profit. Chris asked that Kathie thank all the volunteers from our area. We were short on volunteers and the NW Area stepped up and got the job done; so thank you to the Executive Board, Captains and Volunteers for making the rally a success. Kathie said she had also heard comments from Redmond Rally attendees on improvements and things people thought could be done differently. She said the Area doesn't have much input, but if anyone has any comments, please email them to her and she will take them to the Convention Committee Meeting in Cincinnati next month. Ron Grinnell asked for clarification on the change from one vote per F number to one vote per person. Arvin said he thought it went into effect January 2014, but didn't have any information on it. There was a question of price of membership when there is only one person per F number compared to two people per coach. Kathie will check

Kathie will check into it. Kathie reported on the Governing Board Meeting at Redmond: The two main items were keeping the position of Immediate Past President on the Executive Board, which passed by a narrow vote and FMCAssist being re-instated as a member benefit at no cost. It will be provided as part of your dues effective October 1, 2014. Discus-sion followed regarding the members who had paid their premium and were not getting a refund. Several felt they should have gotten a refund or FMCA should have been given a credit for the members who paid. Andy reported that it was a done deal and that it was totally in the hands of the Insurance Company. Mill Hotel & Casino 2015 Update: There have been changes to the parking area at the Mill. We will no longer have the large area past the RV Park. However, we will have approximate 80 30 amp electric sites that the Mill installed for Monaco International. Therefore, we will have a split venue, but the Mill will be provid-ing transportation to and from the site which is approximate 1 mile away. Dennis Martin and Andy Balogh will be Rally Hosts. Marje Fouts surveyed the Vendors regarding four day rally. There was only one that said he would do it. Linn County 2016 Update: Linn County has been signed for 2016. We have also lost some of our parking area at Albany due to the installation of a huge dog park in the area to the south by the Lake. They will be level-ing more of the grass area to the east for us to use. Site Visits: The following sites have been visited: Washington County was visited by Hal Shorr and Hood River by Bud & Marje Fouts. They would both be good planning meeting sites. Kathie and Andy have visited Cowlitz County (Longview, WA) good Area rally site, Clark County (Vancouver, WA)not good, Spokane WA. Good site and Portland Expo (too big and expensive). Bob Henderson spoke on a By-Laws Amendment that he has proposed regarding getting information out to the Chapters, Presidents, and Delegates well in advance of the Governing Board meetings, so that items can be dis-cussed in the Chapters and the Delegates have time to get input and knowledge prior to voting. Discussion fol-lowed. Bob passed around a petition for signatures in favor of the change. He is going to talk with some friends in other areas and get signatures from them in support also. The Secretary will forward the proposal to all the ar-ea chapters for their review and more signatures. Andy explained the process for getting the proposal through the correct channels to get it to the Governing Board for a vote.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:35 p.m. Karen Pratt, Secretary

2015 Tentative Rally Schedule At the FMCA rally we discussed some pre-planning for the rally calendar for 2015. We had Bob Fite from the Puget Sounders Motor Coach Club as a quest speaker. He explained how they did there rallies and answered questions. He explained that they put there calendar together as much as two years in advance. This allowed them to get into places that might be otherwise booked and gave members a lot of time to plan there travels. They then got host and co-host who wanted to partici-pate in a particular rally. If there was no host then the rally would be a no-host ral-ly and members would just plan on the fly. The following is a current work in progress. Our tentative approach is to schedule the rally date and locations and hopefully the host will volunteer. We have some host but would also like to see co-host so don’t be afraid to throw your name in if any of the locations interest you. Jan- Feb- Mardi Gras North 2/12-15 TBT April- Gig Harbor, WA 4/23-26 May- Salem, OR 5/14-17 June- Stone Ridge, ID 6/11-14 July- Oregon Coast 7/16-19 TBT August- Grand Coulee Dam, WA TBT Sept – Casey's on the River, OR 9/17-19 Oct- Prosser Wine Country, WA 10/15-18 Nov- Fairview RV, OR 11/25-29 Dec- We also have scheduled space for the Prosser Balloon Festival for 2016. This will be a co-rally with the Puget Sounders Motor Coach Club. This new approach will hopefully encourage participation from members to volun-teer to host and co-host and also facilitate planning for members who are putting together there travel plans for next year. If anyone has a suggestion for a location that they think would make for a good rally please let me know. Rod Robbins VP
