Mountain View College had just held this year’s Language Week
Celebration with the themes ―Introducing Language through Culture and Fili-
pino: Wika ng Pambansang Kaunlaran.‖ This had been one of the best pro-
grams for this school year so far. This was led by the CEM (Circle of English
Majors) which is composed of AB English and BSEd English Majors.
The grand opening of the language week was held in the M.T. Oliv-
erio on Tuesday night, August 25. It was a colorful, blissful night with students
wearing attires representing different countries around the world. Everyone
was invited and enjoyed the program. The Sons and Daughters were invited to
sing, Filipino classes under Ma’am Bretaña presented news reports and
Ma’am Sardale Gauzon showcased the program through her singing of ―Isang
Mundo, Isang Awit‖
On Wednesday, costumes were still seen around the campus and
there were activities intended for each school to participate; Poster making
and the poem composition which was open for all who were interested. On
the evening, a separate worship service happened in the Florence Kern Audi-
torium attended by most of the students. After the worship, the programs
were continued. The MVC students presented their talents through poetry
recitation, songs and interpretative dances. The program was truly blessed
with the joined forces of the Advent Philomels, the International Student Asso-
ciation, and the Teaching Profession class singing ―Bonse Aba.‖ It was truly a
blissful and blissful moment.
On Thursday night, the program was joyful and the Oliverio hall was
filled with students. The ISA association showcased their talents in represent-
ing their countries by singing. Ma’am Porquez’s class also presented a folk
dance and the rest of the classes who weren’t able to present the past nights
presented such as speech choirs, sabayang pagbigkas and poetry recitations.
The culmination was the best awaited. After the Advent Philomels
sang a song, Dr. Veneracion Cabana gave the message for the devotional. On
the second part of the program, the audience wowed when Ezra Mutsahuni,
an African, AB-Theology student, fluently sang a Filipino song entitled
―Dakilang Lahi‖ with Apple Agdon, a SBA student. After which, the classes
under Ma’am Gauzon presented a speech choir entitled ―1896‖. Everyone
enjoyed a balagtasan about courtship and education presented by a Filipino
class. The Sulads presented a song then followed by another news report
from the Filipino class.
The Language week celebration was truly a success. The unity
amidst diverse culture and language was truly evident throughout the week.
And it gave a message that God’s children unite and work hand in hand to
make the week-long program a success.
The CEM is very much grateful to God, to the sponsors, teachers,
administrators, and students who made the celebration very successful.

Are you pretty good at friendships? Friends are very important to each of us. However, friendships come in layers. Most
of us have a lot of acquaintances. Those people we greet and with whom we exchange small talk. Most of us have several casual friendships. Those are people with whom we might chat on specific topics such as work or favorite books to read. Most of us are blessed to have one or two really good, close friends. These are the friends with whom we can share the depths of our soul-good and bad. These are the friends who truly care how we are doing and want to share our joys hold
our hand through sorrows. These friends are rock solid and will always be there for us. True friends are a gift from God, so if we have one or two, celebrate! If we are one to someone else…, celebrate! Now you’re smiling! JTW!
“Friends are those rare persons who ask how you are and then wait for the answer.” Ellah Pamm Deed
Editor’s Note
Now these three remain: Faith, Hope and Love, but the greatest of these is LOVE.
Thirteen faculty members from the College of Education, MSU-Maguindanao visited Moun-
tain View College last Thursday, August 27. The team was headed by the outgoing Dean, Dr. Renato
Gacayan. They visited not only MVC but also Bukidnon State University and some landmark of
Bukidnon. Picture taking was done at the Jubilee Park after they had taken their lunch at the Col-
lege Fastfood Center. They were formally welcomed by the College President, Dr. Don Leo Garilva at
the Faculty Lounge. After that, Dr. Olivia Vasquez, Dean of the School of Education, presented to
them some of our best practices and answered some of their questions. They also visited the Ac-
creditation Room to observe our filing system and to look at some of our documents.
They heard about MVC through their fellow teachers who had visited our campus before,
and also through Pastor Jimmy Adil who served as visiting professors at MSU-Maguindanao while
conducting ethnographic research in the community outside the University. The visitors are all
praised for MVC’s beautiful landscapes, its cleanliness, buildings, documents and warm reception.
