Drum & Bugle CorpsJerry Minto

Greetings Nobles from the members and friends of the Hadi Drum and Bugle Corps!

Just a reminder that the Vidalia onions sale should be about complete, so make sure you have your orders delivered and money turned in. The onion chairman thanks you very much.

Now is the time for new Nobles to join our unit. Please make every effort to greet the new Nobles and invite them to join us! The ShrinersFest is fast approaching and ev-eryone needs to help sell as many buttons as possible. The button sales are a large part of the income that will make the Shriners-Fest a success! Thanks to everyone who participated in the Annual Paper Crusade which was held on May 16th! This is a great way of informing the public about the great work being done

at our hospitals. A big thank you goes out to everyone who participated in our rib sale too. It took a lot of work to smoke those slabs of ribs and the sale was a GREAT success!

Hope to do this again next month and bring you the past and future happenings of your Hadi Drum & Bugle Corps.

St. Louis Hospital DedicationDan Schuler, Chief Rabban

On Saturday, May 17th, around 80 Shri-ners and their Ladies boarded buses to head to the BRAND NEW St. Louis Shriners Hospital for Children. They joined close to 2,000 other people for this special event.

The brand-new, state-of-the-art hospital features three floors, all designed with the intent to provide an even better Shriners Hospitals experience for patients and fam-ilies.

We were all very excited to be able to attend this dedication as well as have the Imperial Sir Dale Stauss and 1st Lady Cheryl join us on the bus trip back home, and would like to say THANK YOU to some special people and businesses who helped make this trip happen. Thank you to Illustrious Sir Ken Mitz for allowing us to go and rep-resent Hadi at the dedication. To Mark & Diane Shaw, John & Julie Hudson, Kathy Stewart and my wife Ginny for putting the treat bags together...Thank you! Thanks goes out to Bauer’s Grove Catering for the delicious cookies, Jimmy Johns for the tasty sandwiches, the Hadi Funsters for the chips and water & to Diane Shaw for the sacks and candy!

To Kelly & Stacey in the Hadi office for handling all of the reservations, Rick Ennis for helping prepare things for the trip and to Rod McDonald & John Nelson for tak-ing pictures, you are all appreciated! Finally to all of the Shriners, Shrine Ladies, family & friends, thank you for doing what you do and especially for joining us on this journey! I hope you had a wonderful time!

Hospital StaffMay was a very busy month starting with the distribution of 7,500 bags of onions to the various UCO’s of Hadi Temple. On May 9th Hadi held the Spring Ceremoni-al and the Spring Class Honoree was our very own Mike Palmer. Congratulations to Mike for his years of hard work and dedi-cation to Hadi & the Hospital Staff. As a Shrine Kid and a member you made the Hospital Staff very proud!

May 16th we conducted the Shrine Screening Clinic for possible patients to our hospitals. Thanks to all of our friends that passed the word through social media, radio, newspaper and word of mouth that this clinic is a real easy way to possibly get-ting the needed help for their child.

We also participated in Hadi’s annual Pa-per Crusade. Thanks to all who helped, we appreciate you very much!

Ron Higgs, Hospital Coordinator

On May 17th we boarded a bus with a lot of Nobility to St. Louis and participated in the dedication at our newest Shriners Hospital. WOW! What a great facility equipped with all the latest technology! I’m sure the kid’s treatment will continue to be of the highest standards Shriners can be proud of.

May 19th our Captain, Wayne Ravellette coordinated a very special Hospital Staff lady’s night. Hadi’s very own Potentate, Ken Mitz and Shriners Imperial Potentate, Dale Stauss attended the dinner with Del-egates, Dignitaries and friends.

Don’t forget to set your calendar for June 24th – June 28th. This of course is Hadi’s ShrinersFest! The Hospital Staff will again offer pizza with drinks plus the addition of bread sticks. We need YOU to make our activities a success, so please help!

We have had a good month! I want to thank all those who helped with the All Degree Day. We’d like to thank not only the par-ticipants but also those who helped with the breakfast, especially Dave Bradford who chaired the breakfast committee. I also would like to say thank you to the members who sold onions for the club. We sold ap-proximately 30 bags which is a good start for the short time we have been together.

Remember, ShrinersFest is coming up and we need the help and support of everyone. Anything from selling buttons to volunteer-ing to help in another way. If not just bring your family and friends down to support us. The best kept secret of ShrinersFest is the VIP passes for $75.00 a piece over at the Pa-goda in the air conditioning. If you decide to buy a VIP pass you better hurry down to the Shrine…They’re going FAST!

Hope to see everyone at the ShrinersFest!

Well another ceremonial has come and gone, and it looks like we have recruited some finemen to contribute their talents to the betterment of the Hadi Temple. When you meet these new Nobles congratulate them and make them feel at home. The paper crusade was a success, and I would like to thank all the Patrolmen that came out and participated in this event. The onions have been distributed, and so have many recipes, mm-mm! ShrinersFest this year will be the best ever, check out all the great things going on, we would like to see as many Patrolmen at the fest as possible, cooking and cleaning at the trailer, or just wearing your Fez and make the public aware of your temples work in the community.

Looking forward to a great Shriner year and I hope everyone Has a great summer. Al-ways proud to be a Shriner!

Motor CorpsRalph Pigman, Secretary

By the time you receive this onion sales will be history. It looks like we were successful! The next big event will be the ShrinersFest. Please come down and give us a hand to make this successful, we need plenty of help with the bierstubes and concessions. If you would like to be a part just contact one of the Motor Corps officers.

Also, there will not be a June Motor Corps meeting due to the fact it is during the ShrinersFest. Please keep track of the parades in the Hot Sands. Hope to see all of you participate! We’d like to send out big CONGRATULA-TIONS to Noble Jerry Thacker for being elected to the new office of Motor Corps Steward.

Legion of HonorGreetings from Hadi Legion of Honor! By the time this article reaches the nobility, it will almost be summer. There are lots of outside activities taking place right now, so please be cautious as you drive around town or about the country side.

Onion sales seem to have gone well. We give a big thanks to those who handled all the onions in the Hadi parking lot. Things seemed to have went smoothly.

Three Nobles along with two ladies from Hadi LOH attended the 84th IALOH Convention in Tampa, Florida during April. It was a great time for those who attended. Besides having a lot of fun, food, and beverage, we also conducted some business. There were three candidates run-ning for two vacant seats on the IALOH line. The two successful candidates elected were Tracy Coughlin from Florida as 7th

Curran Wilkinson, Adjutant

Lt. Commander, and Jim Walker from California will go on line as the 8th Lt. Commander. Our own Mike Murray ad-vanced from 7th to 6th Lt. Commander, and Jim Pulley from Ainad Shrine, East St. Louis, was elected as IALOH Command-er for the year 2015-2016. Congratulations to all the successful candidates. Kevin Fox ran unopposed for IALOH Adjutant. Nu-merous awards were presented along with many words of appreciation for those who contributed to the success of the conven-tion.

Also in April, we welcomed back a charter member of Hadi LOH, James Threet and his Lady Mary after a long absence.

Now back to the real life. We at Hadi LOH are presently engaged in the plan-ning for the GLSA LOH Convention to be hosted by Hadi LOH in August 2016.

We at Hadi LOH welcome all service vet-erans to join our unit. We meet the fourth Monday of each month except in May at Hadi Temple. After eating with our ladies in the Red Fez, we meet for our meeting at 7:30 PM on the third floor.

Remember...It’s an honor to belong to the Legion of Honor!

Oriental BandSteve Alsop, Asst to the Secretary

Greetings to all Nobles from your brothers in the Oriental Band! We would like to ex-press our appreciation for all who attended and prepared our recent and delicious OB breakfast at the Shrine. Special thanks to members Steve Hendrix, Big Tom, and Pat Byrns for their culinary skills.

Upcoming events that we are playing at include the May 8 ceremonial, and don’t forget our Ladies Night is May 16. We are looking forward to welcoming the new Shriners to our spruced up room and antic-ipate growing our membership.

We are also proud to be hosting the Great Lakes Shrine Oriental Band Association Jamboree this year, June 4-7, with OB member John Hudson as 2015 President of the G.L.S.O.B.A. At last year’s jamboree we were very successful, with yours truly filling in as a first time genie and receiving a beautiful first place trophy which I hum-bly accepted on behalf of the entire band.

The band has been rapidly improving and we welcome all of our OB brothers to at-tend our 7pm Tuesday weekly practices or just stop in for some camel’s milk and good times. Business meetings are the second Tuesday each month.

Most importantly, the Shrinersfest is fast approaching, June 25-28, and we will need all hands on deck to help work our booth. If everyone can work just a few hours, it really makes the task easier on the whole group. To volunteer for the ShrinersFest or if you have questions please contact VP Kerry Dubuque at 812-499-1741.

Finally, if you have not yet paid your 2015 dues, please stop in or mail them to Hadi Oriental Band, P.O. Box 1, Evansville, IN 47708 or make arrangements with Trea-surer Keith Schnepper812-499-3993 as soon as possible.
