Th e fi rst motor corps meeting held in January was indeed good. We had a packed house and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Remember the fourth Friday of every month is the Motor Corps meeting at 7:00 p.m. Come down early and enjoy fellowship with all the Motor Corps and their families in the Red Fez. I would like to thank everyone for a successful fi rst fund-raiser which was the smoked pork butt roast we had for Super Bowl Sunday. We are still planning on having four more fund-raisers this year and that would be three Black Coal events and the Evansville shindig on Franklin Street later this year. Don’t forget we are in the middle of the annual onion sales for the Temple. Please get out and sell them, our onion sales chairpersons are Bo Gibbs and Heath Gibbs. Please contact them or any offi cer of the Motor Corps with your orders. All orders need to be turned in by 3:00 p.m. on Friday April 21. Th ank you, Dennis Isaac, Secretary
Past Masters Make a note in your calendars for Th ursday, May 18, when Past Masters Club will meet at the Log Inn with our ladies for an evening of good food and fellowship. A notice of this meeting will be sent out to get an idea of how many reservations we should turn in, so when you get your letter, please respond as soon as possible. Remember to look for your letter in early May. Any new or previous Masters of the Lodge are welcome to join us.

Every mariner knows that sooner or later the winds shift and courses present themselves in new directions; in 2016, the Mariners set a new course. Th is year we will continue on our new course to pursue new opportunities. As a person who fi nds peace on the water, it’s a tremendous privilege to lead the Hadi Mariners with your 2017 bridge: Secretary Jack Cooper and Lady Ruth; Treasurer Mike Sollman and Lady Yonetta; Commander Jeff Baker and Lady Carla; Vice Commodore Sam Byers and Lady Andrea; and me as your Commodore with Lady Kayla. In this 40th year, it is an honor to continue the legacy of our founder L.P. Dallas.
Wow, if you missed the January and February meeting, you missed a fun time. Th e January meeting was a full house on the third fl oor. We welcomed aboard a longtime friend, Richard Smith. Richard has been a member of Hadi for 55 years, and during his journey with the Hospital Staff he has made 185 trips to the hospitals over the years. Richard is a reminder to all of us of our mission as Shriners. We also welcomed aboard a new member in February, Jim Grace. Jim is a member of Lodge 64, past Monarch No-Ruz Grotto, past President of the Patrol, and currently Secretary/Treasurer of the Sportsman Club. It’s great to have you aboard the Mariners, Jim (yes, all new mariners own boats). Th e February meeting was held at the Roca Bar, and the
Ladies (Admirals) were invited to join us for Meet & Greet between 6:00 and 7:00pm. A great evening was enjoyed by all. A thank you goes to Treasurer Mike Sollman, who spent a day with me working on the SS Mariner, to Bob Hodgeson for donating the materials, and to my special Lady Kayla. who decorated the SS Mariner for the holiday parades. A tip of the fez goes to the many mariners selling Circus ads and Mom and Pop tickets. Top ad sales goes to Bill Davis, Cory Hollingsworth, Pat Tevault, and Wendel Webster, with several thousand dollars’ worth of Mom-Pop sales. Th e Mariners are looking forward to seeing you at the Mariners hospitality suite at this year’s Potentate’s Ball. Our club is strong, our services robust, and our future bright. Our bridge members are extraordinary at what they do for you, our members and I’m very proud of that. We’re all bound by our link to the water, memories of sunsets and laughter we’ve enjoyed while fl oating on a boat or near the water. I greatly look forward to seeing each of you at our meetings in 2017. Th e Best Ship is Friendship. Commodore Dave Horn

Th e Drum and Bugle Corps is now well into the New Year. President Brad Lisembee and his offi cers are doing a fi ne job planning the various activities for the year. Please make every eff ort to get your 2017 dues paid as soon as possible. Th e treasurer, John Bogan, will be glad to give you a new dues card for the pal-try sum of $20. Your prompt attention to this matter will be greatly appreciat-ed. We had a great Christmas party in December with a large crowd in at-tendance. Andy Bullock was presented the 2016 Achievement Award, which was a well deserved honor for his dedi-cation and many accomplishments. Th e D&B would like to give a shout out to our newest member, Da-vid Stephens. Let’s all make a special eff ort to welcome him to our parade
unit. With that being said, we would also like to recognize our newest Life Member, James Bauermeister. Th e D&B were great hosts for the annual Super Bowl party as well as the East West Shrine Game held on the second fl oor of the temple. Great food, fellowship, and games were enjoyed by a large crowd of Nobles and guests. Th anks to everyone who helped. Special thanks to Scott and Meredith Th ompson for their help with the children’s prizes. Your D&B will again be getting up early in the morning to cook sausage for the annual YMCA Pancake Days. We have been doing this for a number of years and are glad to help in this popular community activity. Saturday, April 1, will be the annual Potentate’s Ball. A large number of D&B members and their ladies will
be attending in honor of Potentate Mike Stader and Lady Cheryl. On the Friday evening preceding the ball, an evening of fun and fellowship will be held. It is that time of year to start lining up your onion customers. Let us know how many bags you will need and I am sure you will be taken care of. Th e upcoming meeting for the D&B will be Friday, March 10. As a reminder, practice will start at 7:30pm and the meeting will begin at 8:00pm sharp. Hope to do this again in the up and coming months and bring you the best past and future happenings of your Hadi Drum and Bugle Corps.

Greetings Nobles. Spring is upon us and it won’t be long until we will be hitting the streets again. We would like to congratulate Illustrious Sir Mike Stader and his Lady Cheryl. Good luck Illustrious to you, your Lady, and to your Divan as well. We are all looking forward to see what excitement you bring to Hadi Temple in 2017. Th e Color Guard also has a new Captain. Congratulations Captain Scott Th ompson. We are looking forward to having a big year in 2017 under his leadership and guidance. Scott has some ideas to make 2017 an exciting year. Assisting Scott this year will be 1st Lieutenant Paul Embry, Sargent Mike Cravener, Ben Townsend as Director, and Past Captain Chester Peak Treasure. We would also like to welcome our newest members to the Color Guard: Kevin Th omas and PP Brian Ball. Welcome aboard guys. Looking forward to parading in 2017 with these two fi ne Nobles. Spring is also time for Onion Sales. It’s never too early to make contact with those who bought onions last year. Let’s start early and fi nish strong in sales. Th e earlier you sell; there is a better chance of picking up some new customers. We need all the help we can get to help the Unit. Rod McDonald is seeking input on how to improve circus ticket sales. If you have an idea or comment to help get more people to the circus let Rod know. Again, we need people at the circus to keep our Temple up and running. Any noble interested in joining the Color Guard we meet the 1st Friday of every month at 7:00 pm on the 3rd fl oor. Come down to the Temple early to enjoy the Red Fez.

Greetings Nobles. I hope this fi nds you with dry powder and clear eyes. Th is year, I hope to have several events to keep the mo-mentum going. Starting off , we have a trip planned to Knob Creek Rifl e Range in West Point, KY on Saturday, April 8. Th ey have two national machine gun shoots each year. Th is year, we’re taking the black Hadi bus and heading to Kentucky. If you’ve never been, you owe it to yourself to come along. People come from all over the country to participate. Know of a machine gun you’d like to try out? Chances are pretty good there’ll be one there. You’ll see full auto pistols to anti-tank rifl es. Last time I was there, a guy brought a Sherman Tank. He cranked off a few rounds from the turret. It shook the ground. What a rush. Many of the owners will let you fi re their weapons, for a nominal fee of course. Th ere will also be a 900-table gun show. Th ere’s something there for everybody. Th is is open to Sportsmans Club members and their family members. We have very limited seating on our bus, so the fi rst 16 to give me a call at (812) 483-8270 get the seats. Remember, we only have 16 total seats. If we fi ll up, you’re welcome to follow us over. We’ll leave Hadi parking lot at 7:00 AM and head back about 4:00 PM. Cost including your admittance will be $25. PLEASE bring ear protection. When a hundred machine guns start going off at one time it’s little noisy. Th ere will be plenty of food available at the range for lunch. I’ll bring donuts, coff ee and milk for breakfast. Please come to our meetings and give us some ideas for future events. Each meeting we’ll try and have a presenta-tion of some type, so you’ll leave feeling as if you actually got something out of attending. I’d like to have a type of Show-N-Tell each month. Bring a collectible fi rearm or anything you’d like to talk about or give a presentation on. I’d really like to see ALL our members get involved and contribute. We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 PM in the Patrol Room on the 3rd fl oor. Come join us. REMEMBER, treat ALL fi rearms as if they’re loaded. Be safe, Be alert. God Bless Our Troops.
Tom Land, President
Sportsmans Club - On Target Legion of Honor Greetings from Hadi Legion of Honor! On January 23, 2017, we were honored to have our Potentate and LOH member, Ill. Sir Mike Stader, swear in the Hadi LOH offi cers for the year 2017.
Offi cers sworn in are as follows: - Commander, Ned Wellmeier - Lt. Commander, Karl Fark - Adjutant, Curran Wilkinson - Finance Offi cer, Frank Seib - and Chaplain, Jim Stoneman It was properly conducted by our Ill. Potentate in the Red Fez room at Hadi Shrine with our ladies standing by, armed with cameras to record the pro-ceedings. Have you ever given any thought to the time spent by the potentates, past and present, the Divan members, past and present, plus all the offi cers of all the UCO’s working to keep our Temple up and going? Beyond that, all these positions are without pay. Consider all the miles driven, costumes and clothing purchased, not to say anything about the time spent away from their families to serve this Shrine. After you consider all the voluntary time spent by these people, for the sole purpose of keeping this organization up and running, we as nobles are deeply indebted to these gentlemen. Th at having been said, we the nobles of Hadi Legion of Honor say “Th ank You.” Hadi Legion of Honor invites all nobles who are veterans of any military service of our country to join our unit. We meet the 4th Monday of each month on the third fl oor of Hadi Shrine Temple. We always treat our Ladies to dinner in the Red Fez restaurant prior to our meeting. Remember, it is an Honor to belong to the Legion of Honor.

Directors In Action Greetings Nobles, I hope everyone is doing fi ne and having a great year. Th e Ides of March are upon us and it’s been an exciting two months. Th is is a very busy time of the month for our club, so I will keep this short and sweet. Big Tip of the Fez to Brandon Arney and Scott Young for the great food and libations at our last meeting. As usual, the food was outstanding, but the fellowship was even better. It was nice to see everyone in attendance, new and old faces alike. Big thanks to our southern brothers Adam Dare and
Matt McConnell from Rizpah Shrine Temple for coming up and spending the evening with us. Topics for the evening were, of course, the upcoming Potentate’s Ball and SDA. Th ey’re approaching fast and we’re working diligently on both. Another Big Tip of the Fez to Illustrious Sir Mike Stader for stopping in to off er his support and see if there was anything he could do to help. Th ank you Mike. We are getting ready to head north for SDA, that the Shrine Directors’ Association’s nation-al convention in Milwaukee, WI
April 19-22. Th e Director’s Staff of Hadi will be hosting this convention in Evansville in 2018 with Tropicana Casino as the host hotel headquarters. We are currently fi nalizing arrangements and the schedule of events. What an exciting time to be a Director. Come check us out! Our next meeting is Wednesday, March 1, with hospitality at 6pm and meeting at 7pm. Just one more thing...PROUD TO BE A SHRINER!
Robin A. Marshall, Director
Hospital StaffTh e Hospital Staff congratulates our new Captain Butch Carl, 1st Lieutenant Mike Palmer, 2nd Lieu-tenant Tim Martin, Sergeant Mike Russell, Secretary Gerold David, and Treasurer Paul Embry. A big Th ank You to Steve Cunningham in the absence of Mike Russell, for fulfi lling the new position of Sergeant Assistant. Our 2016 Driver of the Year was David Belcher, David has recorded more than 300 trips transporting our Shriner Kids to and from our hospitals. Th e Hospital Staff ’s 2016 Man of the Year was presented by past captain, Bill Holsey to Yours Truly. I was not only surprised, but very humbled and appreciative of those members who selected me for this honor. Our March events will include our second Ladies’ night on Tuesday, March 21, at the Masonic Lodge building located at Chestnut and Th ird Streets. As usual, the event will start promptly at 6:30pm. Tim Martin wants to remind all members of the Circus Ad Kick-off on Saturday, March 25. Last year, we lagged behind our previous year’s sales. Th is re-sulted in part to our total recorded for 2016 being less than expected. Th is eff ort requires a total commitment fro all of our members to be successful. Captain Butch Carl extends a big Th ank You for the many donations to the Hospital Staff Building Fund. Donations in honor of Ginny Schuler are fast
approaching $13,000. All donations are needed and appreciated. Past Potentate Dan Schuler has been appointed Hadi Temple Building & Grounds Chairman, and he has listed the Hospital Staff building as a high priority. He hopes to break ground this year. A little known fact is our drivers drove more than 67,000 miles in 2016. Th is is equal to driving around the globe almost three times! When fi guring the time it takes to drive to and from our hospitals, times the number of trips to our varied hospitals, our driv-ers logged more than 3,100 hours, which equates to almost 129 days, 24/7. Th is does not include the time our drivers were waiting at the hospitals for our Shrine Kids’ appointments. Th is month’s kudos are extended to our DEDICATED DRIVERS!

Th e Hadi Highlanders have been hard at work putting new pipers on the street, and hopefully, in time for the Mardi Gras Grand Parade on Saturday, February 25, and our annual St. Patrick’s Day Tour. We meet every Wednesday at 7 PM, all are welcome. Drinks are plentiful and reasonably priced. We still have a few VIP seats on the March 17th TOUR, starting at $875. Come by and see what the Highlanders are all about. Don’t worry about uniform or instrument expenses, as our bookkeeping system sucks and most Highlanders still don’t have the correct uniform. Our TARTAN BALL is 3rd week of November at the NEW downtown DoubleTree hotel. So, come by and have a wee dram.

Showing no limits in the waterAlyssia Crook says the water is the one place she feels completely free. She first tried swimming as part of her physical therapy after having her left leg amputated when she was 13 years old. Now, five years later, Alyssia is competing with the fastest swimmers in the world.
Alyssia has a long-term goal of bringing home a medal in the 2020 games in Tokyo, Japan. Beyond that, she would like to help kids with physical disabilities through swimming and rehabilitation, showing them how to find strength in the water as she has.
Alyssia has a rare congenital condition called popliteal pterygium syndrome, which is character-ized by a knot of nerves, arteries and veins concentrated in her legs. As Alyssia’s legs grew, the bundle did not, causing sharp pain, inhibiting growth and compromising circulation.
In 2003, 5-year-old Alyssia was living in a Ukranian orphanage, where Chad and Karen Crook first met her. The couple immediately adopted her and flew her back to Western Michigan.
Once in the states, Alyssia began treatment at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Chicago. She and her family say that Shriners Hospitals was the one place that correctly diagnosed her condi-tion. Doctors at Shriners Hospitals provided care that enabled Alyssia to see success both in and out of the water.
When she was in middle school, Alyssia gained national media attention when, after many sur-geries and painful procedures, she made the decision to have her leg amputated. She said that prayers and a desire to have an active life were behind her courageous choice. News organiza-tions ran Alyssia’s story, including a video of her scoring during a basketball game.
“I am excited to have the chance to represent my country while competing in a sport I really love,” said Alyssia. She knows that there are no limits to what she can achieve, in or out of the water.
Shriners Hospitals for Children is proud to cheer on Alyssia. She is an excellent role model for young patients who may be facing tough physical and mental challenges of their own.

Nick Abbott, owner of Ruxer Ford in Jasper, donated $3000 to the Hadi Transportation Fund. Mr. Abbott hosted a special drive toward the annual Quest for a Million Pennies in November and December and donated $25 for each new car purchased.
Dubois County Shrine Club initiated the first Quest for a Million Pennies and it is proving to be a successful fund-raiser. Be on the lookout for details about our next Quest for Pennies.
Cole Gidcumb, a student at Resurrection Catholic School, made a difference. His teacher gave each student $5 and told them to make a difference. Cole used his $5 to make and sell cookies, then used the profits to make more cookies to sell. He wanted to do something good and since his mom was a Shrine Kid, he decided to buy toys to give to children visiting or staying for the St. Louis Shriners Hospital. In February, Cole presented his toys to Hadi Shrine.
