SELECTED CASTES, BY DISTRICTS
This table was E'xtracted at the request of the local government, and at their expense. The selection was made on the following basis;-
(i) All scheduled castes (including Hindu mcrnbers of 16 tribes) were incluuerJ. (ii) All other castes were includCld" which have at any time been consiuererl for inclusion ill the
• schedule. . . (iii) Such other castes were included as, according to the cenm'> of 1931, were found to have u.
I'ltrength of not less than 4 per 1,000. In additio::l there is one caste, whidl nearly reaches this minimum, namely the Baruis.
(zvJ Agarwallas, Bn.dyas and Rajputs howe also befm extracted, although they fulfil none of the previous conditIOns, on account of their social importcmce. Agarwallas -do not include Jaing.
2. The figures exhibitpi in thi;:: -cable in all probability do n::lt represent the tru~ strength for any castA. This is because about aile quarter of thCl tobalnumber of H;n·lu3 faile::l to reburn any p-trticulars from which ,t would be possible to c:.educe what caste they belonged to.
3. At the request and at the expense of the Durbar of Tr'ipllra Stat.e, a number of castes which are found in that state have been extracted. The selection of these castes Wd,S made by the Uurbar. Far some of th"se cast.es the figures glVe a total which is probably lASS than their real strength; for in this state 8180, a number of Hindlls, about one-eighth of the whole, failed to return any caste.

5. Not all castes are represented in every district and some are so restricted in loc3,tion that to save printing space their figu,'f's are assembled below>-
