Being a journalist isn‟t easy as we think. It needs hardwork in writing and determination. Some of us don‟t know that the editor-in-chief or other staff don‟t have an interest and passion in writing. In school writing, it isn‟t enough just to write. You must gather facts. It takes a lot of time and patience. We must be alert on daily issues and the events in our surroundings, especially in our school. We must be responsible and perform it with pas-sion. Despite the difficulties, being a school writer is a great opportunity and experience. It makes us more witty and brighter. Of course, it‟s a great honor to be a school writer. When you just see your name in a school paper, it makes you proud of yourself. It leads you more to read the school paper. However, some of the people are jealous. My sim-ple advice to them is that next time, try your very best. In school writing, it needs cooperation. Whether it‟s your enemy or your friend, just focus in writing and put your mind, your heart and yourselves in what you are doing.

1. Prepare Your Children without Fear You don't want to make your children paranoid, but you must prepare them. Talk about safety openly and without fear. Go over the do‟s and don'ts with them. You need to make sure your children under-stand that they are loved, and they need to love themselves. 2. Set Up Their World for Safety Never leave your chil-dren alone, even for a mo-ment, particularly when they're young. Your chil-dren should know their home telephone number, their parents' cell phone numbers, their home ad-dress and how to call 911. 3. Listen and Look

As parents, you need to be extremely tuned in to what's taking place in

new case is born. Do you know what is it? It is kidnapping. Kidnapping children is the modus of some kidnappers now. They kidnap children who have healthy body and fresh organs. The kidnap-pers also need money for their finances. Many

believe that this news is true but some don‟t. Here in Davao city, there were many cases of kid-napping who took place in some malls, parks and other places. Should we be alarmed with this news? As parents we should always make sure the safety of our children. It is our responsibility to always remind our children not to go out from the school. You cannot trust any body nowa- days because there are many untrustworthy people. Par-ents must get their children on time and always remind them not to go and talk to strangers or those they don‟t know. Come to think of it, if you are the victim of this kind of tragedy you will be traumatized and scared always as the grade five boy feeling right now. We have to be vigi-lant of what are happenings in our environment. This would be a lesson for students, teachers and even for parents. Don‟t let their pupils or children to go far from their house or school. We have to be careful at all times to avoid this kind of incident to happen.

your child's life. When you pick your children up from the mall or school, scan the landscape and notice if there are people lurking or located where they don't belong. 4. Have a Plan Make sure you have up-to-date pictures of your child from every angle. Be sure the images are easily recognizable. 5. Teach Your Children to Self-Protect Teach your child to rec-ognize danger: who, what and where. Somebody they don't know or don't trust asking them to do some-thing they don't want to do. Strangers can be anyone. If someone asks your child to go to a second location that should set bells off in his or her head. Kids should never be alone, even for a minute.

LIVING HEROES. Teachers give their best smile during the World Teachers‟ Day Celebration.

YOU‟RE IN! Kinder pupils dance the hula in San Roque Got Talent.

SCOUTING IS GREAT! A grade two pupil color her work while Tita Estrilla observes.

HEP, HEP, HURRAY! KAB scouts line up for Round Up activity.

MATH IS COOL! A pupil answers multiplication exercises while Mrs. Queenchita Gumapac looks on.

When you hear the word MTAP, what comes to your mind? Of course it‟s Math, Math and more Math! MTAP stands for Mathe-matics Teachers‟ Associa-tion of the Philippines which designed a six-week Saturday enrichment pro-gram for pupils. Some of the objectives of the pro-gram are to prepare pupils for contests and to expose students to different mathe-matical activities without the threat of tests. MTAP classes provide students to learn mathematics.

Scouting activities in our school kicked off with the BSP Round-Up Inspec-tion and GSP Investiture last August 24, 2011. These activities were done to formally welcome pupils to their level in scouting as well as kick-off for fun-filled activities which is always synonymous with scouting. In the morning, Kawan leaders made a round up of all boy scouts from grades one to six. Uniforms were also inspected as well as rededication to the scout‟s promise and law. The SRCES gym became a spectacular sight as boys in uniform presented their

The school was bus-tling with activities on the Saturday of September 3, 2011. Because who won‟t join the annual GSP Palaro? The whole day was filled with cheer and laugh-ter as star scouts and junior scouts moved heaven and earth to win in hoop relay, the longest line using paper tearing, obstacle relay, knot tying and law relay. The SRCES Gym was filled with more than one hundred fifty star scouts. The junior scouts occupied the open space in front of the grade six building to accommo-date more than a hundred and a half. The girls became col-orful and vibrant as they

In our school, MTAP classes were started last August 14 and will end on September 17, 2011. A total of 958 pupils from all grade levels joined the MTAP this year. There were 26 teachers who trained and assisted the students. Mrs. Queenchita Gu-mapac, the school Math Coordinator said, “I‟m so happy with the good turn-out of pupils in MTAP Sat-urday classes”. It means many pupils are interested to develop their skills in

Mathematics. Through the MTAP classes the school was able to put up a Math

yells, claps and cheers. “We encouraged the boys to be active in the scouting movement be-cause this is one avenue that they will grow to love God and serve our coun-try,” said Mr. Orlando G. Rivera, the BSP School Coordinator. In the afternoon, the Star Scouts were invested in a Magic Carpet Cere-mony. The grade one pu-pils were very eager to wear their star crowns sym-bolic of their new adventure in scouting. After this, the grade four girl scouts were invested into Junior level in a Candle Ceremony.

painted their faces. For the junior scouts, it was a test of creativity as they were given time pressure to come up with great designs on their faces. They also presented action songs, yells and cheers on stage with their colorful faces. The highlight of the palaro was cosplay compe-tition featuring recyclable materials. Delyn Galam of Grade VI-Rizal won first place and she adapted bar-bie and wore a makeshift gown out of colorful cloth strips. On the other hand, Eloida Lulab of Grade VI-One grabbed the first place in Realistic Costume cate-gory as she depicted the Japanese anime Sakura.

Mrs. Helen Licong and Mrs. Marifel Malinit, the GSP Junior and Star Scouts school coordinators

were very thankful for the support of the parents in the scouting activities of the school.

TOGETHER WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD. Boy and Girl Scouts take part the activities in investiture, encampment, and palaro. They learn to be self reliant, independent and environment friendly. With scouting, growing up is fun!

August 19 was a red letter date as it was the Alumni Launching and Re-union sponsored by the SRCES Alumni Associa-tion. The highlight of the activity was the induction of officers of the newly formed alumni association, now headed by Mariel A. Baco of batch 1993. The night was spiced up by the live band of Baran-gay 76-B Captain Robert Olan-olan. Each „dekada‟ also presented their num-ber depicting the grooves of their times. Batch 63 trio rocked the house with their

At first glance, you might think they are just a bunch of happy senior citi-zens. They hang out every Saturday at Victoria Plaza, a shopping mall beside San Roque. But there is more in Batch 63 that meets the eye. This group has been or-ganized informally by a group of San Roque Alumni circa 1963. They started reunions among their batch around 2007. Then, they continued meeting monthly for fellowship. Later, they held Christmas parties and even held series of batch gatherings. One of their major events was a batch reunion dubbed “An Affair to Remember” at Garden Oases. The group is now led by Alice Onate, who also hap-pened to be the Valedicto-rian of their batch. She is a TESDA trainer. Many of her batch mates are also suc-cessful in their own fields. One is now a doctor who owns a hospital in Agusan. Another batch mate, Ruben Madarang is a musician working on international cruise liner. What started as casual meetings has turned into something stronger. The group has developed a bond and a sense of ac-countability. They watch

rendition of Beach Boys music. Even the teachers joined the encore in a Hataw dance. Around one hundred twenty alumni attended the affair. SRCES Alumni As-sociation Prexy Mariel Baco said, “We exist not because we want just to have reunions and fun times like this. We would like to form an association that can be a blessing to the school. It‟s kind of pay-back time.” True enough, the theme of the affair was “Bal ik -Tanaw, Bigay-Pugay, Handog-Biyaya.”

out for one another and are always ready to lend a helping hand. Reaching out to batch mates who are abroad and in other cities has also been done. The group has dreams to „pay back‟ the school in little ways with their talents and resources. For the past year, they have started to collect money for a scholar-

ship project to poor yet de-serving pupils in San Roque. Their group had been longing to connect to the school but did not get around it. It was no wonder that they were ecstatic when a First Grand Alumni Homecoming was an-nounced in 2009. They helped in the promotion

and fundraising for the event. They lend old pic-tures of the school which was used in the audio-visual presentations and the exhibit. The pictures date back to 1957 when they were still in grade one in San Roque. During the reunion itself, they grabbed the attention of the crowd by wearing uniform shirts and present-ing a song number. They also had their own tarpaulin and banner. Batch 63 is really an in-spiration to all the alumni. Two from their group are now officers in the alumni association. Ma‟am Alice Onate is now the Treasurer while Ma‟am Dory Salvador is the Assistant Treasurer. The group has been very helpful to the officers with regards to the direction of the Alumni Association. Credits are due to Sir Her-nandez, Sir Ruben Mada-rang and Sir Oscar Con-suegra for their valuable insights and advises. Personally, I am glad of Batch 63. They are setting the trend for the young alumni of our school. They have given us a good ex-ample of what it means to live life to the fullest and to help the school which has contributed to their suc-cess.

I SHALL RETURN. San Roque Alumni enjoy talks of good old days.

WE‟RE BACK! Batch 63 enjoy their meal during the Alumni Launching.

She is sexy and a simple girl. She‟s one of the newest teacher in San Roque Central Elementary School. A hardworking lady with strong determination is Mrs. Vanessa Endozo-Aumada. She is 29 years of age and mar-ried, born last February 8, 1982 in Batangas. “Actually, my first assign-

ment was in Elpidio Quirino Ele-mentary School. Since their enrol-

lees decreased, I was deployed here in San Roque Central Elementary

School, signed by Mrs. Maquindang. That is why I am here in San Roque Central”. Teaching is a noble profession. It molds the youth to de-velop physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. “That is why I chose to be a teacher as my profession because I want to help children become good citizen by teaching them what is right”..

JUNE-OCTOBER 2011

A stunning and gorgeous grade three teacher is now an adviser of section Daisy. She is Mrs. Rubylyn V. Abella-Renegado, 29 years old, born on November 28, 1981 in Lasang, Davao City and married to Alquin Re-negado. She was an excellent student during her elementary and high school days. She had been on top of the honor list. “The distance for where I was assigned before in a far-flung area, educational upliftment because I ‟ m having my thesis writing in my Gradu- a t e school and health my medical experts adviced or recom-mend for me to conceive a child. Teaching is a calling for me. By this profession, I felt fulfillment. It is more than transferring a gene to some-body, instead transferring LIFE to somebody.” She graduated at University of Southeastern Philip-pines, Obrero Campus, Davao City last 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education major in Mathematics with flying honors. A smiling, and silent type of

Merma T. Parcon. She graduated Bachelor of Elementary Education at Davao Oriental State of Col-lege Science and Technology with flying colors. She got her Master‟s Degree of Arts in Edu-cation at University of Mindanao, Davao City. She is a transferee from

Actually, it was fate that brought me here in San Roque Central yet I was glad to be a part of this wonder-ful community.” Teaching is indeed a noble pro-fession. A teacher has to be equipped not o n l y with knowledge and abilities but with a warm heart to un-derstand and appreciate the different behavior of his pu-pils. It is a commitment not only to your pupils, yourself but also to God.

Simplicity is the best word to de-scribe Ms. Ellen Estacaan, a 32 year old single lady, born on January 16, 1979. A purpose to practice my profes-sion and share my God-given gifts to the children.” Teaching is a noble profession and at the same time a vocation. You touch the lives of the young people and serve them even after school hours.

Mitchelle Pacifico-Laroga is a teacher of smiles. A teacher who is a good mother to her daughter and good wife to her husband. She was born on August 5,1981 at Davao City. “Actually, I did not choose to teach in San Roque. The only thing is just to transfer to any school to transfer within downtown

area. It‟s God‟s gift to be a part of the San Roque family.”

“Teaching is a noble profession, a ser-vice to teach people in their deeper soul in all as-pects of life.” She graduated Bachelor of Elementary Education at University of Southeastern Philippines (Obrero, Davao City). Her four years exposure led her to be employed at Holy Child School of Davao as her first teaching experi-enced. She is now one of the expert teachers here in San Roque Central Elementary School as grade I ad-viser

September 5, 2011, a new teacher came in San Roque Central Elemen-tary School. This is Mr. Geny Suarez Banuelos. A father of two children and a good person for 38 years. He came from Assumption College of Davao. Teaching there for 12 years in grades IV, V and VI. He started teaching in 1999 up to present. “God has a reason why I‟m here in this prestigious school. He sent me here for a mission to accom-plish.” Teaching is a profession. It is also a v o c a -tion, it is this process where changes take place because a mentor will touch the lives of the learners. A reason like job assurance forced him to transfer in another school. For him, it is hard to adjust in his new home, the San Roque. He found teaching in San Roque challenging. He feels very comfortable in his new home. According to him, private school has more academic ex-cellence and financial support from their parents. What a great experience for a new teacher. Now he is relaxed teaching in 6th grade section Luna. A good per-son as well as a good teacher, that‟s Mr. Genny Suarez Banuelos.

A smart and very approachable lady, a 23 year old and single named Do-an L. Silana. She graduated last 2009 at University of Southeastern Philippines, Obrero Campus, Davao City with the degree of Bachelor of Secondary Education m a-jor in English. Teaching in San Roque is a great opportunity. “I was luckily chosen by the City Mayor as one of the public ser-vants. I am rendering my ser-vice in this school because I believe that not only more learn-ers need me but also greater op-portunity in growing both personal and career.” Teaching is a noble profession which provides a life-long learning, lifetime work and commitment in incul-cating the minds and hearts of the children. Ma‟am Silana got her first teaching experienced at Good Seed Nursery Home and Care Center as a pre-school teacher last 2009. She was also at the E & G Academy International Language Center as an English Teacher. Finally, she is now one of the brilliant teachers here in San Roque Central Elementary School as an Academic teacher in grade five.

Differences is not a hindrance to success. That‟s the motto of Ms. Anissa S. Badio, single, a 25 year old and a muslim teacher. She saw the first light of the dawn on February 20, 1985. “Actually, we are not giving a chance to choose the school we want to teach. Thanks to Allah that I‟m chosen to be one of the teachers in San

Roque. I learned more and I be-lieve that our school is one of the

best best school in Davao City. Teaching is my profession. Teaching needs life time commitment, dedication and you cannot give what you don‟t have just like in teaching.” She graduated her college at University of Mindanao with the degree of Bachelor of Elementary Education in Filipino. Her four year experience in college made her more equipped to be one of the chosen teachers in San Roque Central Elementary School. She is now teaching Mathematics in grade five.

“I chose to teach in San Roque for many reasons. First, it is a big and central school unlike my previ-ous school. Second, it is conven-ient and accessible for me be-cause my wife works in San Pedro Doctors‟ Clinic.” “Teaching is both a profession and a vocation. Profession in the sense that you earned this degree, vocation because you teach children beyond what the book says. That is Mr. Ramiro Sarti, the grade six -Aquino adviser.

A lady with patience, a supportive to her children that is Mrs. Analyn Suarez a grade two adviser section Acacia. She is a transferee from J.P. Laurel Elementary School. “I chose San Roque because God has mission for me which is to teach young youths. To mold them to be-come a good citizen someday. This school will keep me more efficient teacher”. “Teaching for e is a vocation and a mission. A vo-cation to love and a mission to help students good mor-als and values. It is like a tool where you need to sharpen so that it will be more useful.

Now I must these three praise Three women that have wrought

What joy is in my days One because no thought,

Nor those unpassing cares,

No, not in these fifteen Many-times-troubled years, Could ever come between

Mind and delighted mind;

And one because her hand Had strength than could unbind

What none can understand,

What none can have and thrive, Youth‟s dreamy load , till she

So changed me that I live Labouring in ecstasy.

And what of her that took

And till my youth was gone With scarce a pitying look?

How could I praise that one?

When day begins to break I count my good and bad,

Being wakeful for her sake, Remembering what she had.

What eagle look still shows So great a sweetness flows I shake from head to foot.

God loves us best.

He protects us in our way. He gives us our daily food.

He gives us the best of care. He is so very clear.

God does not ask us for any-thing.

Except to be good to all living things

In school we learn to read and write

Counting numbers and thinking wise

Singing and dancing too

School is fun for me and you.

The teacher helps us everyday,

To read, write and count today

We listen to her every time

She teaches us a singing rhyme.

She also teaches us all she knows,

To make us wiser and brighter now

She is the best of all

school is the best place to go.
