Volume 2, Edition 16 March 27, 2017 SIS Hosts Academic Pep Rally for Students This week marks the first round of tests for grades 4 th , 5 th , 7 th , 8 th , and English I and II EOCs. To celebrate their students’ hard work (at to let off some steam and stress), SIS teachers and administrators hosted Academic Pep Rallies on Friday. The Pep Rallies featured the high school jazz band, SHS JV and Varsity cheerleaders, a cave man (aka Jerry Russell), KISS wanna-bes (aka 4 th grade teachers), and some serious dancers (aka 4 th and 5 th grade teachers). The students were encouraged to do their best and “Rock the STAAR”. Check out the videos on the Snyder ISD facebook page! SHS Science Classrooms Go Flexible! Two of the upper level classrooms in the SHS Science Department are trying some new seating options to help engage student learning. Students can select from seating options on the floor, in desks, in tables, beanbags, and medicine balls. Flexible seating research has shown to help students increase focus and engagement by allowing personal choice in the classroom. Way to try something out of the box!! SISD & Boot Camp Work Together to Support Students Last week, Boot Camp staff led some SISD students in team building exercises to help promote better cooperation and stronger decision-making abilities. Partnerships like this can help all students be successful! SISD Dual Language Listed in Top 3 in West Texas Dr. Richard Gomez and Region 14 returned to Snyder ISD today to follow up on our progress in the dual language classes. Gomez and Gomez Dual Language and Snyder ISD is committed to educating our students in a dual language program that will create the best possible learning environment to ensure our students' success academically and as future bilingual, bicultural and bi-literate members of society. Snyder ISD currently implements the dual language one-way Program in grades 3rd thru 1st and PK and the two-way program in Kindergarten. Next year, we will grow the one-way program into 4th grade and the two-way program into 1st grade. Dr. Gomez took the time to visit with our dual language instructors at the Primary. He saw so many great things happening in our bilingual program, which is a testament to our dual language instructors' hard work, dedication, and passion each one has for our students. By the way, he said that Snyder ISD is one of three top Gomez & Gomez Bilingual Programs in West Texas. SHS Students Have Strong Showing at UIL The SHS UIL students had a very strong academic showing last week at the district tournament. Anna Charlotte Lavers was first in persuasive speaking and third in current issues and events.Alanna Hurt was first in Lincoln-Douglas debate and second in informative speaking.In prose interpretation, Ian Row was third and Christian Chavez was fifth. In poetry interpretation, Breianna Bairrington was fifth.In spelling, Rena Morrell was first, Elizabeth Skelton was sixth and Nicole DelMundo was 12 th . They earned first team honors.I n accounting, Tristan Soliz was fourth, Aaron Escobedo fifth and Peyton Walker sixth. The accounting team was second place team. In computer science, Xavier Gutierrez was fifth and Nick Miller sixth. The team placed second, with Josh Deen and Spence Jones also on the team In news writing, Caitlyn Crane was first, Alex Luecke third and Randy Hernandez sixth. In feature writing, Michelle Rios was fifth. In editorial writing, Georgiana Crist was first. In headline writing, Caitlyn Crane was second and Alfredo Hernandez was sixth place. The journalism team won first place. First through third place individuals will advance to regional competition at Texas Tech University April 7-8.
