WELCOME
Welcome 2017 Travelers Championship Volunteers!
Thank you for choosing to volunteer at the 2017 Travelers Championship, June 19-25 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. As Connecticut’s largest sporting event, thousands of volunteers donate their time and effort to help deliver a world-class PGA TOUR experience for players, fans and the media. Last year alone, tournament volunteers provided more than 80,000 hours of their time to help give back to the community. Volunteers not only get to go behind the scenes at a PGA TOUR event, but also can feel good about investing their time as the Travelers Championship donates 100 percent of its net proceeds to charities throughout New England.
Since 2007, when Travelers became the title sponsor, nearly $13 million has been generated for more than 600 charities. Last year alone, the Travelers Championship generated more than $2.8 million for more than 160 charities throughout the region. As the heart of the event, our volunteers contribute directly to this. Your passion, dedication and hard work do not go unnoticed.
For the eighth straight year, Hartford HealthCare is back as the proud sponsor of the volunteer program, as they continue to be actively involved in enhancing the volunteer experience. Together, we share admiration for our volunteers and hope to continue strengthening the overall volunteer experience.
We are pleased to highlight an elite field including three top-10 players in Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and Jordan Spieth; defending champion Russell Knox; two-time champion Bubba Watson; and 2012 winner Marc Leishman. Jim Furyk, who made golf history during the final round of the 2016 Travelers Championship when he shot 58, the lowest score ever in a PGA TOUR event, will be returning to TPC River Highlands. Joining this elite field are 2007 Masters champion and 2015 Open Championship winner Zach Johnson and many more. In addition to the golf competition, the tournament will host more than 20 special events throughout the week, including Military Appreciation presented by Trinity Health Of New England, Farmington Bank Family Day and Women’s Day presented by Travelers. New for 2017, Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ has extended their partnership with the tournament to sponsor a Military Viewing Deck at the Patriots’ Outpost overlooking the 18th hole. Guests of the Patriots’ Outpost will have the ability to watch golf on the finishing stretch of TPC River Highlands. The Liberty Bank Concert Series in the MetroHartford Alliance Fan Zone will include country act Drake White and The Big Fire on Thursday evening and Gin Blossoms on Saturday evening.
We cannot express enough our sincere appreciation for volunteering your time with us and making the tournament possible. See you on the course!
Best Regards,
Nathan Grube Tournament Director Travelers Championship

CHARITABLE IMPACT
The Travelers Championship is proud to be a PGA TOUR event, which donates 100 percent of net proceeds to charity every year. Since 1952, the tournament has generated more than $35 million for charity and in 2016, the Travelers Championship generated a tournament record $2.8 million for more than 160 charities throughout the region.
The primary beneficiary for the 2017 tournament will be The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, Connecticut. Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides “a different kind of healing” to more than 25,000 seriously ill children and family members annually – all completely free of charge. For many of these children and families, Hole in the Wall provides multiple Camp experiences throughout the year.
A YEAR IN REVIEW
The 2016 Travelers Championship was one for the record books. The tournament raised more than $2.8 million for charity, the most in Travelers Championship history, and the final round produced the first 58 in PGA TOUR history. All this before the final putt rolled in and fans witnessed one of the best Travelers Championship finishes. Heading into Sunday, Russell Knox’s consistent play placed him atop the leaderboard. Opening with 67-67, Knox was one stroke behind the leaders heading into moving day. Knox shot a third-round 64 to secure a spot in the final group on Sunday, three strokes behind Daniel Berger. Back-to-back birdies on Nos. 13 and 14 pushed Knox in front, but a bogey at No. 16 and a final-round 64 by Jerry Kelly added to the drama. With a one-stroke lead heading to No. 18, Knox dug deep. After landing his approach shot in a bunker, Knox hit out to 12 feet and faced a par putt for the win. The 12-foot putt was perfect, giving Knox his second PGA TOUR victory and first on American soil. Knox’s consistency from start to finish ultimately separated him from the field. In his fifth appearance at TPC River Highlands, Russell Knox would leave as the 2016 Travelers Championship winner. 5

TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
In 1952, a PGA TOUR event in Connecticut was born, called the Insurance City Open, at Wethersfield Country Club. In 1984, the tournament moved to its current location at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. Travelers has been the title sponsor since 2007. The largest professional sporting event in the state, the tournament has generated more than $35 million for charities in the surrounding communities and has crowned champions such as Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, Billy Casper and Phil Mickelson.
TPC RIVER HIGHLANDSLocated in Cromwell, Connecticut, just minutes outside Hartford on a bluff overlooking the Connecticut River, TPC River Highlands has served as the proud host of the PGA TOUR’s Travelers Championship since 1984. The course has been named by Golf Digest as one of the “Top 10 Golf Courses in the State” and the “Best Private Course in the State” by Connecticut Golfer Online for a number of years. Last fall, the club launched a multi-million dollar renovation project designed to enhance the golf experience. The scope of work encompassed agronomic and architectural improvements to bunkers, draining systems, greens, tee boxes, cart paths and lake banks. Following the announcement of a 10-year sponsorship extension agreement with Travelers in December 2014, special considerations were also given to improving the spectator experiences at the tournament, resulting in enhanced viewing areas and improvements to the existing Fan Zone. TPC River Highlands reopened all 18 holes in early June for members and their guests to enjoy the course enhancements.
