Poineering engineering

The Volvo L220F Hybrid is the latest logical and essential step in

a series o developments that began in 1954 when we introduced

the worlds frst turbo diesel engines or trucks. A major milestone,

it was an intelligent way o drastically increasing engine efciency

and lowering emissions.

Since then, weve taken the diesel engine to the next level and

then on to the next consistently remaining at the oreront o

efcient green technology. For example, by 1974 wed introduced

low-emission engines in our wheel loaders. In 1993, we set a new

industry standard with the revolutionary Volvo D12 engine with

direct injection. And or the last 15 years, the collective strength

o the Volvo Group has been ocused on developing Volvo Hybrid

solutions. And on other pioneering eco-riendly initiatives.

Parallel hybrid a reliable solution

On this machine, the path weve chosen to bring efcient and

reliable hybrid technology to our customers is through parallel

hybrid technology. That means that our robust state-o-the-art D12D

engine is supported by an electric motor or driving backward and

orward. The idea is to add power when its needed most such

as at the moment o start-up and at breakout and to regenerate

power during normal operations. And also to minimize idling, which

normally accounts or up to 40% o a wheel loaders running time.

So the diesel engine can operate at lower revs, which saves

uel, and it turns o automatically when its not needed. The elec-

tric motor, on the other hand, gets its power rom the batteries.

And during normal operation, it works as an electrical generator to

recharge those batteries.

Volvo Group. So our customers have access to a thoroughly veri-

fed, high-quality hybrid product that can make a real dierence or

In typical operations, the Volvo L220F Hybrid oers 10% lower

uel consumption than the admittedly uel-efcient all-diesel

Volvo L220F. Plus, thanks to the extra output delivered by

HybriPower, productivity is higher too.

put, that means that diesel power and electric torque cooperate tomake the most o your uel. This alone lets the Volvo L220F Hybrid

oer 10% lower uel consumption in typical operations than its all-

diesel brother, the uel efcient Volvo L220F.

HybriPower built with green intelligence

Hybrid technology isnt the whole reduced-emissions story. You

see, weve combined HybriPower with other innovative technology,

so theres even more to gain. Take our V-ACT engine technology,

or example, or the use o bio-diesel and state-o-the-art Volvo

How it works.

Power electronic device or electric motor

More power, lower revs, less idling and less uel thats

what HybriPower is all about. By combining diesel

power with electric torque, we let the electric motor

support the diesel engine at start-up and acceleration

and during breakout. Which saves uel up to 10%

and increases productivity at the same time.

Charging

The batteries are charged by the electricmotor/generator during normal operationwithout suppressing productivity.

Idling

To reduce uel consumption and emissions,the diesel engine is automatically turnedo to minimize idling with maintainedproductivity. The batteries run the electricalsystems such as the lights and climatecontrol system or up to one hour.

Breakout

The electric motor supports the dieselwith a boost in power and torque,

enabling high breakout orce at lowerdiesel engine revs.

Start and take-o

The electric motor/generator rapidly startsthe diesel engine. I needed, the electricmotor gives the diesel engine a boost,enabling aster take-o at lower revs.
