The Role of the ASUN PresidentThe ASUN President is the Executive Power of the Associated Students. The President nominates and appoints justices of the Judicial Council and all other appointed officers in the executive branch. The President submits a proposed budget to the Senate for approval each year and attends meetings of the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents.

The Role of the ASUN Vice PresidentThe ASUN Vice President is a member of the Executive Cabinet and is charged with fulfilling those duties assigned by the President or the Senate of the Associated Students. The Vice President assists the president in preparing and maintaining an operating budget for ASUN and act as a liaison between the Senate and the Executive Branch. Finally, the Vice President acts as a liaison between the Senate and the ASUN-funded student publications and coordinates the Pack Mentorship Program.

The Role of the ASUN SenatorsThe ASUN Senate is the official voice of the undergraduate students on decisions regarding campus policies, programming, and money spent by the student government on student support services. The senate consists of 22 senators elected from each of the academic schools and colleges. An ASUN Senator, elected by peers in the college, serves a broad set of functions within the Association. However, the primary role of the Senator is that of legislator, amending and generating bills and resolutions, which best reflect the needs and voices of the students during his or her term as Senator. The Senator communicates between students and heads of colleges.

PRESIDENTBrandon BooneCollege of [email protected] Date of Graduation: 12/09/2017

As ASUN President, Brandon’s focus is to build a future for Nevada that is led By the Pack, For the Pack. Brandon wants the issues that he focuses on to be the ones that students bring to him and that they feel are the most important. Brandon has big plans for continuing the Campus to the City initiative by collaborating with City of Reno officials and local business to continue progress towards becoming a true university town. This also includes working with the business community to create valuable student internships, university partnerships and support for the Wolf Pack. Furthermore, Brandon has a strong passion for civic engagement and getting students engaged in every aspect of campus and the community. In the fall, he coordinated and hosted the largest non-profit event our University has ever held, bringing over 40 local non-profits and service organizations to campus to recruit student volunteers. Brandon also led an initiative to adopt Dick Taylor Memorial Park on behalf of the Associated Students to give back to the community surrounding our campus; this accomplishment led to a proclamation from the City Council commending the Associated Students. Expanding the iLeadNevada campaign to display the exceptional work being done by students in the community is the first step Brandon will take as president to strengthen Nevada’s culture for civic engagement and responsibility. Lastly, Brandon is dedicated to enhancing and promoting the services offered by ASUN. Working to expand the proximity of Campus Escort, expanding the scope of Pack Provisions and improving communication between ASUN officers and students are only a few of the necessary changes ASUN will make to reaching Brandon’s goal of creating a Nevada that is truly By the Pack, For the Pack.

Goals:• Bring Parkmobile to Nevada, a service that will allow students to pay for any metered parking spot electronically with their phones • Expand the iLeadNevada campaign to display the exceptional work being done by students in the community • Improve pedestrian and public transportation around the university, which will allow for Campus Escort to expand the proximity of its service • Invest in Wolf Pack beautification surrounding the university, including a University of Nevada arch to be placed at the entrance of campus • Increase the overall sustainability of Nevada by increasing the availability of filtered water stations and establishing a Bike Share program

She volunteers coaching local a high school speech and debate team and spends her free time reading, hiking around Reno, and hanging out with her friends and family. Go pack!Platform:• Serve. Marissa would utilize the GivePulse software to provide clubs and organizations with meaningful connections in the community and to partner with the Office of Service Learning to provide professors with service learning activities for their curricula. • Lead. A place where students have access to buildings off campus that directly correlates with their college education. She firmly states, “The more community involvement from you guys [college students] the better off the city will be” Nevada students can have a huge impact on the rebranding of Reno if the city and university were to work more closely together to create positive change. Marquis believes in Schieve’s vision and if elected would like to build a firm partnership.

Marquis recognizes that it is important to feel connected to your university. He plans to implement programs and forums giving students the opportunity to have a voice and feel heard in a non-judging healthy environment. Jake’s experiences do not end within ASUN, however, he has had experiences both at the university and in the work force that make him an excellent candidate for Vice President. On campus, he has gotten involved with the Campus Recreation Advisory Committee, Interfraternity Council and the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, where he served as Vice President as a freshman and President as a sophomore. Outside of the university, Jake’s invaluable learning experience in his engineering internship makes him a strong candidate to serve as an advocate for the Pack Internship Grant Program. I am currently a Junior enrolled in the Biotechnology BS/MS program here on campus and would love to be a senator of my college to primarily be more involved, but also help and give a voice to students like myself. Since the college I am in, my program especially, has a smaller student population and I often feel like is forgotten about, I want my campaign to focus around bringing attention to the great resources that CABNR offers. I currently work for the advisor of the Biotechnology BS/MS program, Dr. Howard, and am extremely dedicated to informing kids like myself of the program and trying to help it grow as the university does. I will be encouraging student involvement, and ultimately creating bills aimed at bringing the benefits and resources CABNR offers to light and bringing the sense of a college town to the Nevada campus.

Nathalia Luna is a first year student pursuing a double major in International Affairs and Economics. Having lived in multiple cities across two countries, Nathalia has always had an affinity for international relations, the international community, and the importance of interconnectivity on a global scale. As a Senator for the College of Liberal Arts, Nathalia plans to take our Tier 1 University to the next level by advocating for the innovative use of technology to promote “global competencies” – the attitudes, skills, and knowledge vital to living and working in our multicultural, interconnected world. The best way to acquire these skills is through programs like USAC, work, or study abroad, but only a small percentage of students in the College of Liberal Arts actually go abroad each year. By increasing the accessibility of cross-cultural endeavors such as these to the College of Liberal Arts, and eventually the university as a whole, Nathalia plans to help bring the world to Nevada and Nevada to the world.

Nathalia plans to:

-Advocate for the expansion of partnerships for the College of Liberal Arts with Universities globally.

-Create a Cross-Border Interconnection between ASUN, and Student Governments in other countries.

-Generate access to internships, competitions, conferences, and study/work opportunities overseas for students in the College of Liberal Arts.
