2. IFLA Europe (EFLA) Survey of Landscape Architecture Educational Programmes / Courses

In line with the aims stated in the Strategic and Action plans (2011 - 2013), IFLA Europe (EFLA) Education Committee considered the further development of the Survey of Landscape Architecture Educational Programmes / Courses. This includes a review of the existing procedures regarding the recognition by national associations of landscape architectural programmes within their jurisdictions.

The results of the SRP meetings from 2012/2013 were updated to the survey. The final survey table is to be included in the education documents circulated to all delegates. We would ask that these tables are checked and any omissions, comments or suggestions for improvement are forwarded to the secretariat and to the Vice President. We intend to further develop the range of information presented in the tables to include

o Course attendance, Number of students

o Compilation of further training of graduates and information on the professional requirements for full membership of national associations.

The compilation will of course be carried out in tandem with the Professional Practice Committee.

We would be pleased to receive comments and suggestions for the further development of these tables. Please note that the updating of these tables requires active input from the national associations and it is the responsibility of delegates to ensure this is carried out in a timely manner.

We had intended to do further work on this and had received an offer of assistance from our colleague, Emila Weckman, but as yet have been unable to fully develop this task. It is intended to focus on this over the coming twelve months.

3. IFLA Europe (EFLA) /ECLAS Joint Working Group The further development of the relationship between IFLA Europe (EFLA) and ECLAS was discussed at a meeting of the working group held in Edinburgh in December 2012. the outcome of which was

o Heads of agreement were agreed regarding the further development of the working relationship between the organisations.

o A detailed brief to guide the working group. Copies of these documents are included in the education documents circulated for the General Assembly. The main focus of the working group has been the development of a publication which contains all approved6 documents offering advice and guidance on the pathway to the professional landscape architect. This is currently a work in progress with the current draft and the general approach to be discussed at the forthcoming education committee meeting in Berlin.

6 Approved by IFLA, IFLA Europe and/or ECLAS as and if appropriate. Inclusion of documents will be discussed by the working group and any

revisions require ratification by the General Assemblies. Refer to the brief of the working group or further details.

4. EU Teach Project The further development of the EU Teach 2 is on-going with a number of applications being made but unfortunately

without successful outcomes to date. As yet we have not secured additional funding but the project partners

continue to develop applications and would be hopeful of continued work on this important project.

More information about the project can be found on the Project web site.

5. EFLA Accreditation of Landscape Architectural Programmes. EFLA are now affiliate members of ENQA7 (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education). This relationship will greatly assist us in developing and ensuring the quality of our assessment procedures. This forms part of the tasks outlined in The EFLA Education Committee Action Plan and will be a focus of the coming year. 6. IFLA Education Guidelines.2012. At the IFLA Education committee meeting the final draft of the IFLA/UNESCO Education Charter was approved and the document was submitted to and approved by the World Council. The text is presented in the Draft Minutes of the Education Meeting of 20128 and is included as a separate enclosure in the education documents circulated for the General Assembly9. 7. PQD Project EFLA have been promoting the inclusion of Landscape Architects as part of the redrafting of the Professional Qualifications Directive. This is being managed by our colleague Prof. Fritz Auweck and Dr. Joachim Jobi. The project is being developed in collaboration with both the Education and Professional Practice Committees and EFLA EXCo. Updates have been provided by Prof. Auweck and implications for the education committee will be discussed at the impending General Assembly in Berlin. 8. Development of the relationship with UNISCAPE. We further developed our relationship with UNISCAPE by becoming involved in the ‘Landscape and Imagination’ conference in Paris in May 2013. I developed and submitted a paper to the scientific committee which was accepted and subsequently attended and presented the paper at the conference. I was also involved in some of the proceedings and discussions with the delegates regarding the education of landscape architects. The paper entitled ‘Some thoughts on the education of landscape architects’ is presented in the education documents circulated. 9. Action Plan The EFLA Education Committee Action Plan has been updated and the actions will be discussed at the Education Committee. The Action plan will be forwarded to delegates prior to the General Assembly.
