NSS UNIT REPORTS (2015-2016)

(June) 20/06/2016:-Poster making competition on yoga

(Time: 11:30- 01:30)

On 19th June 2016, there was a poster making competition on yoga. This event was in college campus. 24 volunteers participated in this event. New creativity came into existence.

21/06/2016:-Celebration International Yoga Day

(Time: 8:30-10:00 & 11:00-12:30)

On 21st June 2016, NSS Unit of VPM’s R.Z. SHAH College of Arts, Science & Commerce organized

Yoga workshops to celebrate International Day of Yoga. On this day NSS volunteers of our

college arranged two Yoga workshops for students, teachers and non-teaching staff of our

college. Mrs. Urvashi Thakkar was our yoga trainer and Ms. Priya More was our Yoga

demonstrator. Mrs. Urvashi completed her B.com from MUMBAI UNIVERSITY and completed

BA in yoga training course. She also completed Diploma in Food Nutrition and course in

Naturopathy. She has 12 years of experience in the field of yoga training.

Mrs. Urvashi informed us about the importance of yoga. 75 students in morning workshop and

87 students in afternoon workshop did yoga along with 28 NSS volunteers in each workshop,

many teachers and non-teaching staff attended this yoga workshop and took benefit of yoga.

Many Asana were been taught like Vrikshaasan, Padmaasan, Bhunjagaasan, Sarvangaasan,

Pranayam, kapalbaati, Vajraasan, Yoga mudra and many more.

22/06/2016:-Poster making competition on Tree plantation

(Time: 11:30- 01:30)

On 21th June 2016, N.S.S. unit of VPM’s RZ SHAH College organized poster making competition on save trees for college students. This event was in college campus. 31 Students participated in this competition. New creativity came into existence.

25/06/2016:-Free health checkup for college staff

(Time: 01:00-4:00)

On 25th July 2016, Health Spring organized free health camp in VPM’s RZ SHAH College for teaching and

non-teaching staff. Five of our volunteers actively helped doctors and guided staff members.

01/07/2016:- Tree plantation event at college campus

(Time: 09:00-1:00)

Our NSS Unit has organized a tree plantation event on 1st July in which 16 boy and 18 girl volunteers

planted around 15 trees with the help of BMC people.

13/07/2016:- Tree plantation event at Devpada, Neral

(Time: 10:00-03:00)

At our adopted area i.e. Devpada, Neral, 7 boy and 8 girl volunteers went for tree plantation. Our P.O.’s

instructed us about tree plantation. Around 140 trees were planted by our NSS team. After tree

plantation, our volunteers played a street play on save trees. Villagers too helped us and supported in

tree plantation.

14/07/2016:- NSS Orientation at college

(Time: 11:00-01:00)

This event was organized by our NSS unit to introduce what NSS is to the new first year students. Our

ex-leaders, Miss. Pragti Shetty and Mater. Prashant Soodi shared their journey of NSS and also showed

last year’s activities through PPT. Our P.O.’s also motivated our college students to join NSS. Our all NSS

volunteers managed the crowd.

18/07/2016:- Foundation Day Celebration

(Time: 10:00-02:00)

159th Foundation day celebration was organized by university at Sports Complex, Kalina

Campus. Our Hon. Governer Shri. VidyasagarRao and Education Minister Shri. Vinod Tawde

were the chief guests of program. New courses were introduced in the event. NSS volunteers,

NCC volunteers and Officers were present. We hoisted our national flag and sang national

anthem.

30/07/2016:- Crowd Management In Fresher’s Party

(Time: 9:00-02:00)

Our NSS volunteers helped in crowd management at Fresher’s party. They volunteered very

actively with other volunteers. A street play on child labour was presented by 14 volunteers in

the party.

01/08/2016:- Orientation for new volunteers & Gender Based

Violence Awareness

(Time: 10:30-03:00)

Our orientation program started at 10:30. Mr. Darshan Ingole, Project Co-ordinator of MAVA

(Men’s Against Violence & Abuse) Foundation were our guest. He introduced us about their

organization and also encouraged volunteers to stop and fight against gender based violence

primarily on women. He ended the session by showing videos, shortfilms and interviews.

Our chief guest, District Co-ordinator of NSS, Mr. Ashok Poojari continued the orientation

session and motivated our volunteers. He shared his experiences. Our Senior Vice Principal

Mrs. Kavita Sharma ma’am too told us importance of NSS in college. Program officers of NSS

unit explained the activities of NSS unit to be conducted during the year.

03/08/2016:- Poster Making On Dengue Malaria

(Time: 02:00-04:00)

For making people aware about Dengue and Malaria, our leaders instructed volunteers for

making posters. 10 boy and 19 girl volunteers actively took part. We made posters which were

then used for Dengue and Malaria awareness rally and event.

04/08/2016:- Dengue And Malaria Awareness Event

(Time:11:00-01:30)

There was session organized by our NSS unit on Dengue Malaria Awareness. It started at 11 am.

In the session, Dr. Nilesh Palwe, Mr. Rahul Hivre and Ms. Smita Chavan were our guests. Dr.

Nilesh Palwe and Mr. Rahul Hivre made us aware about the diseases which rapidly spread

during monsoon season, their causes, symptoms and cure.

After the session our volunteers drove in a rally from college to our adopted area, Nanepada

slum are. Each group of 8 volunteers did door to door awareness about the diseases. After that

we moved back to our college at 1:30

05/08/2016:- Peace Rally Poster Making

(Time: 02:00-04:00)

For spreading the message of peace, our leaders instructed volunteers for peace rally poster

making in which 10 boy and 10 girl volunteers participated. We made posters which were then

used for peace rally.

06/08/2016:- Peace Rally AtMulund& CST

(Time: 10:00-03:00)

V.G.Vaze College of Arts, Science and Commerce NSS Unit organized a peace rally drove around

Mulund East in which 28 boy and 28 girl volunteers from our college and other volunteers from

M.C.C. college joined them. After rally we moved back to our college.

On the same day, 28 boys from our college went to C.S.T for peace rally organized by the university.

All the volunteers reached at 2 am and rally started at 3 am. Volunteers took oath for peace against

violence and then they moved back.

08/08/2016:- Swachh Bharat Drive At College Campus

(Time: 10:00-10:30)

On 8th August 2016, Our NSS Unit organized Swachh Bharat Drive at our college itself for

cleanliness. 16 boy and 10 girl volunteers voluntarily took part and cleaned the whole college

campus.

09/08/2016:- Kranti Diwas Event

(Time: 10:00-03:00)

Kranti Diwas program was scheduled by university at August Kranti Maidan. Our chief minister

Shri. Devendra Fadnavis, Education Minister Shri. Vinod Tawde and Marathi film director Shri.

Kedar Shinde were the chief guests. Event started with flag hoisting followed by singing national

anthem. Various cultural programs were organized.NCC volunteers and Officers were present.

10/08/2016 to 16/08/2016:- Rakhi Distribution Made By Visually

Challenged.

(Time: 09:30- 12:00, 12:00- 02:30 & 02:30-05:00)

From 10 August to 16 August 2016, 8 volunteers have to be present on rakhi stall. There were 3

batches of volunteers from 09:30-12:00, 12:00-02:30 and 02:30-05:00. Each and every

volunteer were in duty for distribution. Accumulated money helped the visually challenged

people.

12/08/2016:-Cleanliness Drive At M.D. College

(Time: 09:00- 12:00)

This workshop was organized by M.D. College NSS Unit at Mini Theatre on occasion of

Swacchata Pakhawada & International Youth Day. 2 Volunteers attended this workshop.

Relevant information was given by officers on cleanliness & precautions, symptoms and cure

on dengue.

13/08/2016:- Swachh Bharat Drive At College Campus

(Time: 02:00- 02:30)

On 13th August 2016, Our NSS Unit organized Swachh Bharat Drive at our college itself for

cleanliness. 14 girls and 6 boy volunteers actively participated and cleaned the whole college

campus.

15/08/2016:- Independence Day Celebration

(Time: 09:00- 12:00)

Independence Day was celebrated in our college VPM’s R.Z. Shah College. 21 boy and 33

girl volunteers managed the crowd in the event. Event started with flag hoisting followed

by singing national anthem. Volunteers acted a motivating patriotic street play.

Stationeries were donated to the needy children.

20/08/2016:- Road Safety And Defensive Driving Workshop

(Time: 09:00-02:00)

Road Safety And Defensive Driving Workshop was organized by university at

RamanandArya DAV College, Bhandup. 4 volunteers from our college attended the

workshop. Officers gave relevant information about road safety which helped our

volunteers to do practically in the session. Each volunteer got certificate after the

workshop.

22/08/2016:- Tiranga March

(Time: 10:00- 12:00)

On 22nd August 2016, five volunteers attended Tiranga March Event scheduled by the

university. The march was drove around the Kalina University Campus. Volunteers from all the

college sang our national anthem. Everyone took oath to develop our country & making it

prosper. Shri. Bidve Sir and Shri. Ashok Poojari sir motivated all the volunteers. After the

program we moved back to our college.

29/08/2016:- Street Play On Swacch Bharat At College Campus

(Time: 10:30-11:00)

A street play on Swachh Bharat was played by our 10 volunteers at college campus. It was played to

motivate college students to take initiative and keep our society clean and hygiene.

30/08/2016:- Organ Donation Event

(Time: 07:00- 9:00)

Organ donation event started at exact 7 near Air India Building, Marine Drive. 20 volunteers

actively participated in this event. We all were part of the rally. Other government employees also

joined the rally. The rally ended at 9.

02/09/0216:- Voter Id Survey

(Time: 12:00- 1:30)

For voter id information, 32 volunteers took survey of residents in adopted area i.e. Nanepada and

Indiranagar, Mulund. Residents co-operated well with our volunteers and gave information

regarding themselves.

06/09/2016, 09/09/2016, 10/09/2016, 11/09/2016 &

15/09/2016:- Crowd Management at Ganapativisarjan

(Time: 6:30- 9:30)

On the following dates mentioned above all the volunteers from V.P.M’s R.Z. Shah College has managed

the crowd and also helped police in this situation at Ganesh Ghat and Mithagar Lake. Volunteers have

also managed traffic in these dates.

11/09/2016 & 12/09/2016:- Film Appreciation And Issue On Gender

Inequality And Discrimination Workshop

(Time: 10:30- 5:30)

MAVA i.e. Men Against Violence And Abuse, a non-profit organization has arranged a workshop at Dr.

T.K. Tope College, Elphinstone Road on Film Appreciation And Issue On Gender Inequality And

Discrimination Workshop in which 6 volunteers participated. They got relevant information and were

guided well by the workshop conductor.

11/09/2016:- Celebration Of Marathi Diwas

(Time: 09:00)

Celebration of Marathi Diwas was arranged by University of Mumbai At Marathi Bhavan, Kalina

University. 6 volunteers attended programme and got useful ideas and information.

21/09/2016:- Safe Driving Workshop

(Time: 11:00- 3:30)

The workshop was conducted by United Way Mumbai, a non-profit organization. Our 32 college

students participated in it including volunteers. The trainer taught us easy techniques to avoid road

accidents. Practical demonstration of 2-wheeler was also helpful.

23/09/2016:- Swacchbharat pledge

(Time: 12pm)

To create awareness about swacchbharatmission, a mission on cleanliness and hygiene, our five

volunteers went in each classroom and took an oath on swachhbharatwith college students as well as

with teachers.

24/09/2016:- Nss day celebration

(Time: 10:30am to 1:00pm)

On 24th September 2016, NSS day was celebrated in our college. 60 volunteers participated in various

activities. Our last year’s P.O. Miss SujataZalkikar and Our vice Principal Kavita Madam were the guests.

Volunteers made rangoli in front of the entry gate of college. Volunteers sang NSS song. Sujata Ma’am

guided, motivatedand supported our volunteers and wished us to do best in all upcoming events. Our

P.O. Mangesh sir And Vijayalakshmi Ma’am spoke about the importance of NSS.

25/09/2016:- Pulse polio event

(Time: 09:00am- 06:00pm)

Our 12 NSS volunteers went on duty of pulse polio event. Their duty started at 9. They did door to door

awareness. They went at various houses at Mulund to inform them about vaccination. They helped

other government employees who were guiding them. They worked till 06:00pm.

02/10/2016:- Crowd management at kabaddi tournament

(Time: 01:00am- 09:00pm)

Our NSS volunteers managed the crowd at Kabaddi tournament which was held at Mithagar Nagar,

Mulund. They helped in management. They reported at 01:00pm and continued till 09:00pm.

02/10/2016:- Bhajansandhya

(Time: 03:00am- 06:00pm)

On occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, University Of Mumbai every year conducts BhajanSandhya to spread the

message of non-violence. Our 15 NSS volunteers attended the event from 03:00am to 06:00pm. They

made posters to support the event.

20/10/2016 & 21/10/2016:- Voter ID campaign

(Time: 10:00am- 06:00pm)

Voter ID campaign was held at our college V.P.M. R.Z. Shah College Gate on 20th and 21st October 2016.

In all 8 volunteers were on duty in a rotation. They guided people and also helped them.

22/10/2016:- Nashamukti rally

(Time: 10:30am- 01:00pm)

NSS Volunteers of VPM’s R.Z. SHAH College drove an anti-addict rally from VPM’s R.Z. SHAH College,

Mulund-(E) to Indiranagar, Mulund-W via Mulund Station. 49 volunteers were present.

Volunteers performed street play at various locations like Nanepada, Mulund Station East and West,

Indiranagar and also in VPM’s R.Z. SHAH College itself. Slogans were raised throughout the rally to

attract the mass. This was a small step taken by NSS Unit to create awareness and letting people know

how worse drug abuse could lead.

24/10/2016:- Newspaper Bag Making Event

(Time: 12:00pm- 02:00pm)

So as to take initiative on ‘Save Environment’ and aware people about not using plastic bags, our 35 NSS

volunteers collected newspapers from various possible sources and made paper bags. Students

collected newspaper till 12:00pm and started making bags. At 2:00pm they finished their work and

stored those bags to distribute it later.

27/10/2016:- Cloth donation and Anti addict Street play

(Time: 10:30am- 1:30pm)

On 27th October 2016, 22 volunteers of our college visited our allocated area i.e. Devpada and Agripada,

Neral to donate clothes which was collected by us. They reached the campsite at 10:30am. They

performed a street play on drug abuse and then started donating clothes at devpada as well as

agripada. Villagers warmly welcomed us and supported us throughout.

31/10/2016:- Run For Unity

(Time: 7:00am- 9:00am)

University of Mumbai conducted an event “Run for Unity” in which our volunteers, several

organizations, government employees and supporters took part. The event started at 7:00am and was

continued till 9:00am. In all 12 volunteers attended it and supported communal harmony.

11/11/2016:- Chinese Students Interaction Program

(Time: 10:30am- 12:00pm)

University of Mumbai conducted a program in which Chinese students interacted with Indian students.

The event was held at Marathi Bhasha Bhavan from 10:30am to 12:00 pm. Our 3 volunteers actively

attended it. They discussed on relationship and communication barriers between the countries and also

interacted on policies. Action pictures were not allowed during the session, so volunteers clicked the

pictures later.

11/11/2016:- Poster Making on Swacchh Bharat Pakhwada

(Time: 11:00am- 01:00pm)

On 11thNovember 2016, 15 NSS volunteers made posters on Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan. They

actively took part and made it in college auditorium from 11:00am to 01:00pm. New creativity

came into existence.

14/11/2016:- Swacchh Bharat Pakhwada

On 14th November 2016, 35 NSS volunteers of our college cleaned college ground

26/11/2016:- Rememberence of 26/11/2008 bravehearts

On 26th November 2016, NSS unit of our college gave shradanjali to our

bravehearts of 26/11/2008 in which 42 NSS volunteers, teaching staff and all

college management members participated.
