A GREAT DAY WITHA GREAT DAY WITHBLACK CAVIARBLACK CAVIARThank you to all the Phar Lap Club members who sent

in entries for our Black Caviar story competition.I saw Black Caviar racing on a Saturday at Flemington withmy family. It was a really hot day but it was really fun because we got to play outside with theponies on the front lawn. When it was time for Black Caviar to race I went to the Mounting Yardto watch all the horses enter the racecourse. My family and I then went to the Winning Post.Dad put me on his shoulders so I could see the race a bit better. When the horses began to raceI was worried she was not going to win. But then she galloped so fast and won the race! It was agreat day!

The chariot was the original racing car andwas used in racing more than 3500 years ago. Pictures of Egyptian pharoahs and Roman warriorsracing chariots can be seen on the walls of many ancient buildings. Chariot racing was even an

Olympic event in 648BC.Riding on horseback was not a popular sport until 500BC. And using a saddle with stirrups tocontrol a really fast horse was introduced over 1000 years after that!

Here at Flemington we continue this great tradition of racing horses. Really fast horses. Go Black Caviar!
