VRF PlusComfortStar’s VRF Plus series constitutes an advanced, reliable and cost-effective HVAC system, intended for large-scale commercial applications. Driven by cutting-edge Inverter compressor technology at its heart, and engineered for maximum cooling performance, it will meet the comfort demand of large buildings, in several different application types, at the highest energy-efficiency levels.

VRF Plus is our 2nd generation Variable Refrigerant Flow product family, after the CMR Digital Scroll series introduced in 2008.

WHy VRF?The characteristics of Variable Refrigerant Flow systems pose it as an alternative to traditional chilled water systems. Consider-ing that HVAC systems for commercial buildings are subject to part-loading below 3/4 of their design capacity, during the major-ity of their operational time, VRF’s major highlight is its superior part-load energy efficiency nature.

FLeXIBLe CAPACITy RAnGeComfortStar VRF Plus offers superlative flexibility in capacity range with modular outdoor systems. 5 basic single-cabinet modules: 8HP (7-ton), 10HP (8-ton), 12HP (9.5-ton), 14HP (11.5-ton) and 16HP (13-ton).

Basic modules can be combined to comprise large-scale systems up to 64HP (52-ton) capacity. Remarkable capacity range from 8HP (7-ton), to 64HP (52-ton).

SIMULTAneOUS HeATInG And COOLInG on different zones is supported with our Heat Recovery systems. Conventional Heat Pump system also available.

The principle of heat recovery consists on releasing the heat carried out of a cooling zone, into a zone with a demand for heating. Branch selectors have to be added to the piping network to be able to accomplish this energy recycling process, which allows for a power consumption drop (of up to 45%*), under simultaneous cooling/heating conditions, with respect to equivalent but separate heating/cooling systems.

* 45% power consumption drop based on following example: 6-ton Heating + 6-ton Cooling individual systems vs.12-ton Heat Recovery system operating at conditions: A) Cooling Zones: 67ºF WB indoor and 95ºF WB outdoor. B) Heating Zones: 70°F DB indoor and 47° DB outdoor.

CUTTInG-edGe TeCHnOLOGy TO THe COReThe exceptional performance and energy-efficiency ratings depicted by ComfortStar VRF Plus are due to implementation of cutting-edge technology on the essential system components. Improvements with respect to the former VRF Digital Scroll line include High-Efficiency DC Motors, DC Inverter- Driven Compressors, CFD-Optimized coils and Aero-Dynamically Enhanced Fans.

InVeRTeR-dRIVe allows frequency/capacity modulation of the compressor down to 30% of its rated capacity. The DC Motor winding of the compressor is centralized type, in contrast to dis-tributed winding, boosting compressor performance. 20% power consumption reduction with respect to Digital Scroll VRF modulat-ing compressors.

eXTenSIVe Computational Fluid Dynamics studies were conducted to optimize the heat exchange properties of the condenser coils and the Aero-dynamic performance of the condenser fans.

The dC Motor shifts through 18 different rotational speed levels. Rotational speed is adjusted in accordance to the running system load and pressure. SySTeM ReLIABILITy is also increased by automatic start-up of available slave outdoor units, upon failure of a running slave outdoor unit, which subsequently enters a stand-by mode to prevent further system errors.

LOW-nOISe OPeRATIOnVRF Plus features quiet operation functions that reduce the noise levels as much as 46 dB(A) during non-peak load conditions. The system monitors ambient temperature changes and records highest point during the day. The wait time from peak temperature to trigger quiet mode operation can be set; the length of operation in this mode can also be set.

Standard setting of motor static pressure can be changed from 0 to 0.08 in W.C. (0 Pa to 20 Pa) and even customized in a range of 0.08 to 0.33 in W.C. (20 Pa to 82 Pa) to conform with pressure loss characteristics of horizontal-discharge ductwork/hood accessories.

MOde COnFLICT PReVenTIOnUnlike Heat Recovery systems, the heat pump systems do not support simultaneous cooling and heating of different zones; hence it is vital to design them with capability to prevent malfunctions due to mode conflict. ComfortStar VRF Plus heat pump systems can be set in 5 different mode priority states in order to avoid such malfunction. Heating or Cooling can be prioritized one mode over the other, or the system may be set to operate on a first-call mode basis.

OIL ReTURnIn order to maximize compressor lifetime, a special oil return logic is programmed to ensure constant lubrication. After 8 hours of operation the oil return mode starts. Indoor fan is stopped for stand-by units. Indoor fan resumes operation if the unit is on the cooling mode and it is controlled by the Anti-Freezing function if the indoor unit is set in the heating mode.

AUTO AddReSSInGElectrical wiring of indoor units is done easily and no manual ID addressing action is necessary with Comfort-Star VRF Plus systems. The system is programmed with Intelligent Auto-Addressing feature that reduces the overall installation/set-up time.

eASe OF SeRVICeSelf-Diagnostics and Operating Parameters History are among the characteristics that favor Serviceability of ComfortStar VRF Plus systems. Specialized software is also available for detailed monitoring of the operation history of the system on a service call. Compressor proximity to the front panel makes it easy for an eventual replacement.
