QUICK HITS »

» The Golden Eagles, fresh off a new top-25 ranking, welcomes Eccle-sia to Bill George Arena in a non-conference matchup, marking the third and final time of the season John Brown will face an NCCAA opponent.

» Powered by a sweep of Southwestern A.G. and Texas Wesleyan two weekends ago, the Golden Eagles shot up the ladder in the first NAIA National Coaches’ Top-25 Poll to No. 12 - the highest mark JBU has earned during the Beschta era. John Brown finished the season at No. 15 in the final poll last season.

» After besting Ozark Christian (Mo.) 93-82 in Springdale on Nov. 4, Ecclesia has fallen its last six outings and have given up over 100 points five times this season. Drew Cone’s 21.5 points per game easily paces the Royal offense, while Zachary McGee chips in with 16.5 points and a team-best 6.3 rebounds per game.

» Double-double Densier Carnes is tied for third in the nation with five double-double performances on the year. His previous single-season highest number of double-doubles was two, last season.

» John Brown shot 53 percent from the floor and Rokas Grabliauskas scored a team-best 15 points as JBU took care of Champion Christian, 83-63, to improve to 6-0 inside Bill George Arena.

What a year we had in 2018-19 and we are ready to see what 2019-20 brings our way as we continue to work, serve and lead with our student-athletes.

We are so thankful for the accomplishments over the last year. It was a year of suc-cess on the court/field, in the classroom, in community service projects and in individual student-athlete’s lives. Our men’s basketball team, women’s soccer team and two cross country runners (sophomore Ben Martin and freshman Allika Pearson) represented us well at the NAIA National Championships, with women’s soccer finishing in the Round of 16. Our teams competed very well during conference play – finishing in the top half, and falling just short of a regular season and a tournament title in men’s basketball and in women’s soccer! Our men’s tennis team had a banner year and we had the privilege of hosting the SAC/RRAC regional tournament over in Broken Arrow, Okla., with the men and women both winning first-round matches.

The academic awards are at an all-time high. I could not be prouder of the performance in the classroom by our student-athletes, as well as the leadership the coaches are provid-ing in this area. The athletic department finished the school year with a 3.33 cumulative grade point average – the highest since we began tracking 16 years ago! Sixty-three (63) student-athletes were named to the SAC All-Academic Team, while 92 were named to the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll! All nine of our intercollegiate programs were honored with the NAIA’s Scholar-Team designation and four programs paced all other SAC insti-tutions with the top GPA’s – men’s basketball, volleyball and men’s and women’s cross country! We also had 28 students named NAIA Scholar Athletes – juniors and seniors with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA!

I couldn’t ask for a more service-minded group. Our women’s basketball team continued work with the local non-profit Ability Tree, while women’s soccer traveled to Colcord (Okla.) Public Schools weekly to work with the Hornets of Character after-school program. Our men’s soccer team led the annual Siloam Springs Fútbol Club clinics in April – once again, spending time with close to 200 local kids. Our men’s basketball team volunteered at Northside Elementary once a week during the fall semester – giving time to those precious kindergartners, while also helping out a local widow with home projects. Our cheer team volunteered hours with the Boys and Girls Club, Ability Tree and participated in Serve Siloam. And we continued our collection of food for the Manna Center at the annual Toilet Paper Game and provided 2,000 rolls of toilet paper to them as well!

The mission of the Golden Eagle Booster Club is to give support to all of the JBU intercollegiate programs. We want our campus, local community, and all alumni to be proud of being a supporter of John Brown University Athletics.

My hope is that you will partner with us during the 2019-20 academic year and assist with our continuing needs.

Sincerely,

Robyn DaughertyDirector of Athletics

QUICK HITS »

» After a well-needed 10-day break, the Golden Eagles continue its four-game homestand by welcoming Ecclesia (Ark.) to Bill George Arena for the teams’ 18th matchup all-time.

» In John Brown’s last contest, a 53-50 setback to Texas Wesleyan, the Golden Eagles out-scored the Rams 20-5 in the fourth quarter but a triple attempt from Marta Matamala at the buzzer wouldn’t fall, sending JBU to its sixth consecutive loss after starting out the season 2-0.

» The Royals enter tonight’s contest having lost its last nine outings and give up an average of 89.2 points per game. Ecclesia’s scoring margin is an astounding 48 points underwater, but its scoring defense holds teams to just 26 percent from behind the arc. The 35.7 turnovers per game hampers the Royals, but leading scorer Saphire Thompson does her best to keep Ecclesia competitive, averaging 9.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

» With the absense of seniors Jordan Martin and Sara Williams, Taylor Fergen has stepped up to dish out 39 assists, averaging 4.9 per contest. The numbers land her at 13th in the nation in total helpers and 21st in assists per contest.

» John Brown has won all 17 previous matchups with Ecclesia.
