IMAGE COMPARISONA range of facilities for displaying theimages of two documents simultaneouslyincluding split screen, overlays (shownabove) and alternate strobe.

MICROSPECTROMETERA new high resolution, real-time gratingspectrometer provides absorption, reflectance, transmittance and fluorescencespectra.

IMAGE INTEGRATIONA variation in the infra red fluorescenceemitted by two inks provides a valuablemeans of detecting a fraudulent alteration to a document. On chipintegration from 8ms to 180sec (1/125sec to 180sec) allows the examinerto enhance and differentiate weakly

fluorescent images.

ICAO DATA READERThe OCR allows operators to check data inthe Machine Readable Zone of passportsand ID cards.

AREAS OF INTEREST PROCESSINGBy selecting a restricted area of an image, the effects of image enhancement can beimproved.

NEW - BARCODE READERDeciphers 1D and 2D barcodes includingPDF417 format.

IMAGE MEASUREMENTA software module that enables examinersto make a variety of measurementsincluding distances, angles, areas, (shownabove) circle radii and shape perimeters. A simple calibration procedure also enablesabsolute values to be computed.

'HFi' IMAGING TECHNOLOGYAn optical system that minimizes spatialdistortion and chromatic aberrationthroughout the entire magnification range, offering exceptional image quality.

HIGH RESOLUTION IMAGING SYSTEMA FireWire 5 Mpixel CCD colour camera withzoom magnification up to x170 (±6%).

FULL RANGE OF LIGHT SOURCES Includes incident and transmitted ultravioletto infrared plus high intensity illuminationfor the examination of infrared fluorescenceof inks.

GRAPHIC USER INTERFACEA new, intuitive, on-screen control systemallows the operator to navigate the systemmore easily. Magnification, light sources, filters, image analysis and image processingfunctions are selected from simple on screenicons using the PC mouse.

NEW - MULTIPLE LASER IMAGESMultiple Laser Images (MLI) and Changeable Laser Images (CLI) can beviewed using the VSCs side lights.Alternatively, the VSCs range of hologramimaging LEDs can be used, giving greatflexibility.

Right: Sequential images of a banknote OVDusing programmed multi-angled illumination.

NEW - BIREFRINGENT SECURITYFEATURESA new circular polarizer in the VSC®6000/HS will image security featuresprinted with chiral birefringent pigmentswhich appear to contrast against thebackground under the polarizer.

COLOUR MEASUREMENTCharacterises the colour of a selected areaof an image in standard colour coordinateswith displays on chromaticity charts forcolour comparisons.

IMAGE ENHANCEMENT WITH PSEUDOCOLOUR MAPPING Techniques for enhancing small variations inIR absorption, reflectance and fluorescencecharacteristics of inks and pigments whichexploit the eye’s ability to detect smallcolour variations more easily than small greylevel differences (shown above).

INVISIBLE INFORMATION DECODERS(OPTIONAL FEATURE)Software decoders to display embedded IPI(Invisible Personal Information) and ICI(Invisible Constant Images) on passports(shown below) and identity cards, usinglicenced Scrambled Indicia® Technology.

IMAGE ANNOTATIONIncludes text and symbols such as arrows, lines, boxes and circles.

PROGRAMMED EXAMINATIONSThe system may be pre-programmed withinstrument settings to facilitate multiple, standard examination tasks, ensuringconsistency in the repetitive examination ofidentical documents such as cheques.

AUTO EXAMINEThe system (shown above) allows theoperator to select up to 435 illuminationand filter settings which the VSC®6000/HSwill then process to create thumbnailimages. In practice the selection would berestricted to around 200 settings. Preferredsettings can also be saved and applied toany subsequent document examination.

The gallery of thumbnail results can bescrolled through and either saved as ageneral record of document examinationor by double clicking any thumbnail thesystem will automatically recall the settingsto allow a more detailed examination onthe live image.

CASEWORK MANAGEMENTThe system which is compatible with bothWindows 7 and XP, allows the operator tocreate casework files and to store andrecall images, including instrumentsettings. Features include a pull-out galleryof recent work (shown below), notepadand a key word search engine.

IMAGE PROCESSING ANDENHANCEMENTA suite of programs for rotating andreversing a displayed image plus imageenhancement by sharpening, noise reductionincluding FFT filters, background flattening, gamma correction and contrast stretching.

PROGRAMMED EXAMINATIONSThe VSC®6000/HS may be pre-programmedwith instrument settings to facilitate multiple, standard examination tasks, ensuringconsistency in the repetitive examination ofsimilar documents such as cheques.

NEW - HYPERSPECTRAL IMAGINGA method of optimizing the spectraldifferences between two different inks ona document.● Image cube creation over adjustable

wavelength range from 400 to 1000nm.● Incremental steps from as low as 1 to

4nm (depending upon spectral range and PC memory capacity) up to 20nm

● Spectra of any points on the image immediately available for comparison

● Image cube and spectra may be saved and recalled

● Simple calibration procedure● Enables the operator to scroll through

the image set in real time to obtain the maximum spectral difference

IMAGE ENHANCEMENT WITH PSEUDOCOLOUR MAPPINGThree techniques for enhancing smallvariations in IR absorption, reflectance andfluorescence characteristics of inks andpigments which exploit the eye’s ability todetect small colour variations in an imagemore easily than small grey level differences.

● Enhancing small variations in IR absorptionand reflectance

Three different spectral bands of the nearinfrared image of a document areconverted into red, green and blue usingthe camera’s three colour sensors. Anydifference in the infrared spectra of inkson the document are displayed as a colourvariation. The spectral bands may beselected by the operator to producemaximum colour difference.

● Enhancing small differences in infrared fluorescence by using a single excitation waveband

A single excitation waveband is selected toproduce a fluorescent image of the sampledocument. Using three different long passcamera filters, three fluorescent images arecreated and converted to red, green andblue using the camera’s three coloursensors. Any difference in the fluorescencespectra of inks on the document aredisplayed as a colour variation.

A typical imaging procedure is:

Excitation waveband of 400-485nm withfluorescent images taken with longpasscamera filters of 645nm, 695nm and725nm.

● Enhancing small differences in infrared fluorescence by using multiple excitation wavebands

Three excitation wavebands are selected toproduce three fluorescent images of thesample. Using three different long passcamera filters, each fluorescent image isconverted to red, green and blue using thecamera’s three colour sensors. Anydifference in the fluorescence spectra ofinks on the document are displayed as acolour variation. The imaging conditionsare preset as;

i) excitation at 400-535nm with longpasscamera filter at 715nm imaging on the redchannel.

ii) excitation at 515-640nm with longpasscamera filter at 780nm imaging on thegreen channel.

iii) excitation at 605-730nm with longpasscamera filter at 830nm imaging on theblue channel.
