    WHAT’S YOUR PERSPECTIVE?

Perspective. It’s all about how you look at something.

Perspective is an important part of art and architectural drawings. One reason we wear glasses is to help us improve our perspective. We also talk about perspective in relation to how we understand, and take a stand, on various issues. If we’re not careful we can begin to think that our perspective is the “right” or only way to approach an issue. Perspective can become misleading, skewed and sometime downright wrong. This week’s readings remind us that our perspective needs to be aligned with God’s perspective. If it isn’t, it will easily degenerate into self-serving opinion.

The particular perspective being offered this week deals with our call to offer forgiveness to others as God has generously offered forgiveness to us. Forgiveness is always a tricky topic because sometimes the hurt we have experienced was unjust, unwarranted and significant. The other challenge to forgiveness is living in a culture that glorifies violence and vengeance; getting even can be seen as “my right”.

As people of the Word we hear loud and clear that we are called to understanding, compassion and forgiveness. This may be a good week to spend some time meditating on a crucifix. All that Jesus suffered was totally undeserved. Nevertheless, he walked toward Jerusalem and his death, embracing all that happened in a supreme act of love. Jesus on the cross screams to us of our infinite value in God’s eyes. If it is true for us, it must be true for every other person on this earth.

We are being invited to shift our perspective and to see as God sees. We are also being reminded that we will be held responsible for our perspective; “the measure you measure out will be measured back to you.” (Matt. 7:2)

FR. IGNATIUS, PART TWO A Miracle Worker among Us My father, Dick Sloneker, who died in 1997, is admirable in my eyes for many reasons. However, being handy was not one of them! Therefore, I’ve had to learn the little I know about practical mechanics and household repair by trial and error, or if I’m lucky by watching others. In that regard, I must say I am in awe and greatly inspired by a miracle worker among us! Those who know Incarnation Plant Manager, Rob Theewis, will know what I’m talking about when I give thanks for him for being a miracle worker! Just follow him around for a couple of days and you’ll see what I mean. He can fix nearly anything or discern a work-around: electrical, mechanical, plumbing, roofing, pests and varmints…you name it and Rob can do it…and if he can’t, he’ll say so, but usually not after knocking himself out trying! Even beyond that he one of the most generous and compassionate men I know. Thanks Rob Theewis on behalf of the Lord Jesus and his body at Incarnation Church, for whom you are a marvelous miracle worker and more! Funeral Schedule As Fr. Ignatius begins his ministry among us, this is a good time to remind parishioners that we have a schedule of presiders for funerals. I preside at funerals scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Friday and Fr. Ignatius presides at funerals on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Our days off dictate the schedule more than anything else. Livestream Patience Thanks to livestreamers for your patience. It seems that our livestream camera has given up the ghost. We have a new one on order. However, until it arrives or we are able to resurrect our current camera, we will be using a webcam camera. Unfortunately, a webcam camera falls far short of what we are used to and has no ability to pick up the audio system. We can only use a choir microphone to pick up the sound. Just know we are constantly monitoring and working on the system. Stewardship Weeks and Offertory Enhancement We know that Stewardship is simply defined as our thankful response to God’s generous gifts and blessings to us. We typically characterize our thankful response in three categories: Time, Talent and Treasure. At Incarnation, we say time relates to time

given in lifelong faith formation. We say Talent is participation in some role of service, ministry or leadership. Treasure, is our monetary giving to our parish and the poor. Next weekend we will receive our stewardship card of Talent at Masses. See a sample of that card in the bulletin and on the app. During the homily, we will consider the parable of the workers in the vineyard and the astoundingly generous landowner! Thanks for considering entering into a ministry, service or being considered for a role of leadership. The following weekend we will consider stewardship of Treasure. (Stewardship of Time in faith formation will be after the New Year, as we prepare to embark on another Lenten journey.) This year our stewardship of treasure will be a bit more organized and pointed. As has happened three times in the past twenty years at Incarnation, I will be asking parishioners to please consider formally, increasing their offertory giving. We’ll talk about the compelling reasons “why” and the logistics of “how” over the next weeks. More about Fr. Ignatius Thanks to Fr. Ignatius as he “gets his feet on the ground” here at Incarnation. He’s doing a great job! Please read his second bulletin article below as he continues to introduce himself to us! Sincerely and with Love in Christ, Fr. Pat Dear Incarnation Parishioners,

I am back again to share with you about my call. It was in the year 1996 when I was in 10th grade,

our school had organized a retreat for all the students. A few SVD priests from a retreat center in my Archdiocese came to our school to preach at our retreat for about five days. It was in the middle of the retreat, I was able to sense God’s call. That call had triggered a burning desire in my heart to be His servant! The desire to serve God was so much that I could not hold it in my heart that I had to share it with my mother. She was happy to know my intention to join seminary to become a priest to serve God and His people.

    Continued on page 4

  • 4

Continued from page 3 At the age of 16 after completing 10th grade, I joined St.

Joseph’s Minor Seminary (in Secunderabad) to become a priest for the Archdiocese of Hyderabad, Telangana State, India. It was here I did one-year orientation, and two years intermediate (Plus-two). After three years of formation in Minor Seminary, I was sent to St. John’s Major Seminary for Philosophy (in Kurnool). That was a very big seminary with almost 280 seminarians coming from different states in India. It was a very good time where we had inter-cultural exchange of different states. After completing three years of Philosophy, I went on to do my Regency Internship for a year. It was in two places, one was in a school and the other was in a seminary (6 months in each place). After which I went to St. John’s Regional Seminary for Theology (in Ramanthapur). Here, I studied for three and a half years. In the fourth year of my Theology I was ordained a Deacon for my diocese.

Joining the seminary was a big transition period in my life. Because never before had I been away from my home and family. This separation was a testing and challenging phase as I was discerning my vocation. But it was God’s protection and providence which helped me to get through this and to focus my attention on Him and on my vocation.

I still remember very well, when I was studying philosophy away from home, my family purchased a new cell phone so they could call to me. It was an assurance for me that I may be far away but I was still as close to them as ever before.

Seminary life has helped me to reach Jesus more closely and to know about Him more profoundly. During the summer vacations throughout our seminary life we were sent to different parishes and villages for ministry. It was a very good experience for me to prepare myself for my future priestly ministry. Being with the people of God and working with them has taken deep roots from my seminary life.

During my seminary life I have seen some of my classmates at different phases of formation leaving seminary. This reminds me always of what Our Lord has said in the Gospel. Matthew 22/14: “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Hence, I whole heartedly thank Our Lord Jesus for being with me throughout my seminary life. And I always pray for those who left seminary that they may continue to serve the Lord in whatever life they have chosen.

I really appreciate your time and patience for reading my articles. Thank you and blessings. Fr. Ignatius Madanu.

CALLING ALL WOMEN! MOMS (Ministry of Mothers Sharing) Group is a

group of mothers and grandmothers who support one another in these roles. We enjoy social time together and grow our faith through reading Catholic based books in small groups. We meet from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday mornings during the school year in room 104 in the Parish Center.

Our first meeting of this fall will be on September 15, 2020. This fall we will be reading "How to Listen When God is Speaking: a guide for modern-day Catholics" by Father Mitch Pacwa. Unlike previous years, this fall we will not have babysitting available due to the coronavirus. We will also not be serving food or beverages and will follow social distancing and mask guidelines during our sessions.

We understand some members may not be able to attend during the day but still want to stay or get connected. We are planning monthly evening socials the second Wednesday of each month. The first social will be Wednesday, September 9th and the second will be Wednesday, October 14th. A STUDENT'S PRAYER FOR A NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Lord Jesus, I ask for Your help as I begin this new school year.

Allow me to experience Your presence in the many blessings You put before me.

Open my eyes to the new challenges and exciting opportunities that this new school year brings.

Open my heart and mind to new friends and new teachers.

Give me a generous spirit to be enthusiastic with my studies and courage to accept new opportunities.

Help me to be attentive to my teachers and let me experience Your presence in my new friends.

Jesus, inspire me to do my best this year!

    Amen

CALLING ALL CLEANERS! Many of our church cleaners have come to the time

when it is necessary to hand off to new volunteers. Please prayerfully consider volunteering as a church

cleaner. While hidden in some ways, it is a ministry deeply appreciated by all.

We need volunteers to clean on Monday and Friday. Part-time cleaners (say every other week or once a month) are also welcome and appreciated.

Church cleaning begins after the 8:30 a.m. mass on Monday (start time about 9:00) and after the 9:00 a.m. school mass on Friday (start time about 9:45). Cleaning lasts an hour or less depending on your duties.

If you are willing to help, please meet our head cleaner, Beverly Castaldi, at church after a Monday or Friday morning mass, and she will take it from there.

Thank you for your volunteer service. Remember, God is never outdone in generosity.
