FROM THE PRINCIPAL G’day Everyone I hope everyone had a great break and is ready for a busy term. Most students I have talked to are happy to be back at school and felt that the holidays were just the right amount of time to be away from school. Term 4 will be a hectic race to the end of the year with only nine weeks left of school for the year. We have a great term planned and there are so many things on the calendar including: Camps Training and development Year 12 Exams Transition for the Kindy students Presentation Night Facilities We have quite a bit of work going on around the school at the moment with the toilets being upgraded and our grounds staff are working hard to clean up a lot of the fallen vegetation also adding a bit of colour near the Science Lab. Please come in and have a look around. Survey Please follow the link and fill out our survey your opinions are important to us and we would like your feedback to help us with our planning for the future. If you would prefer a hard copy please ask for one at the Front Office. Link to survey: https://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/dcXnYNDY Classes for 2020 At the moment we are working out what combinations of classes we will be running next year and the staffing for 2020. Student Free Day This Friday is a Student Free Day so that staff can go through our data sets and identify areas for development. It is extremely important for staff to the time to be able to analyze and interrogate school data. The data we use for this data drill includes: NAPLAN Progressive Achievement Tool (PAT) Reading PAT Math Observational data The data allows staff to plan our way forward and ensures that information about curriculum needs is shared across the school and that we have a cohesive plan. Reminder Everyone needs to be wearing their hat at recess, lunch time, and while outside doing activities. Governing Council Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 29 October at 7.00pm in the Conference Room. Please come in and listen to students read if you have any spare time, we would appreciate any help possible. First Aid Workshops On Friday 15 November St John will be visiting our school to run First Aid workshops for the Primary students. The Parents and Friends Committee will provide the funding for this worthwhile program. We would like to thank the Parents and Friends Committee for their support this year and especially for the $1000 cheque

presented to us at the last assembly to purchase Makey Makey equipment for our Design and Technology program. Karen Lymn Assistant Principal – Primary

FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL – SECONDARY Welcome back to Term 4 Welcome back to another term of consistent work efforts – I hope everyone had the opportunity for a time of relaxation and are now ready for some hard work and learning consolidation that will culminate in excellent achievement at the end of the year. With their year coming to a rapid close, the Year 12 students would have spent a considerable amount of time during the break finishing assessment tasks – final External Assessment tasks are due to be submitted online next week for a number of subjects and final results are due at the SACE Board for the remainder of their work in the coming weeks. Some subjects now are required to upload electronic files for both external assessment and moderation; others will still package their materials for collection over the course of the coming weeks. During Week 4 and 5 of this term Examinations will be conducted for some subjects – the final date for exams – Friday 15 November. So, it can be seen that our students do not have very long to get all their work finished this term. We wish them well in their endeavours – remember that you have a long holiday ahead once all the work is finished and sent off!

Catering by Home Economics students On Thursday next week, the Year 10, 11 and 12 Home Economics students will be catering for a lunch at the Community Club for the Senior Citizens of the area. Much planning was put into this venture by Melissa Wendland and the students last term, and now the time has come for this to be put into place. They will be preparing food for 50-60 people and they are currently working hard to ensure that all the necessary food preparations are being completed. The Year 8 students will also be cooking scones next Thursday for afternoon tea. We look forward to everyone enjoying the efforts of the students and consuming a tasty buffet lunch.

Secondary Subject Award Sponsorship This year we are again seeking the support of the community in sponsoring Academic Achievement Awards at the Presentation Night in December. Any families, businesses or other organisations who are willing to sponsor an award, these will be gratefully accepted throughout the coming weeks – a subject award is valued at $30.00. These sponsorships are very valued by the school and particularly by the students who are the recipients. If you are able to sponsor a subject award this year, could you please fill in the Reply Slip at the end of the newsletter and let me know of your willingness to participate. Can you also include payment for the award at the time of returning the slip please? If you have a potential subject preference, please indicate this on the slip and we will do our very best to accommodate this request. Glenys McGuire Assistant Principal – Secondary

FROM THE PASTORAL CARE WORKER Here we are in our final term of school and heading toward Christmas! I am hearing lots of talk from students about their great school holidays! We are all ready to teach and learn new things during these last nine weeks! We used to think that our intelligence was fixed – meaning we were either smart or we weren’t. Scientists have proven again and again that simply IS NOT TRUE! Our brain acts like a muscle – the more we use it, the stronger (and smarter) out brain becomes. Hey! That’s good news! From Carol

Sports Colours Day…

On Thursday 19 September we travelled to Murray Bridge to participate in the 2019 Super Series Pedal Prix. We had a total of twenty nine students competing in the race in 4 bikes – Wonder Woman, Venom, Spiderman and Batmobile. Our students all tried hard and finished in the following placings in their category: Spiderman finished 21st , Wonder Woman finished 50th , Venom finished 12th and Batmobile finished 40th.

We would like to sincerely thank Craig and Toni Jericho, Don Bartley and the parents who helped out various ways throughout this event. Also a huge thank you to our sponsors and to Dal Waters for making the awesome stickers for the bikes. Thank you also to the Year 10 students for assisting with the sponsorship letters and the training sessions.

The Pedal Prix students are to be commended for their efforts in the bike and also for the way they conducted themselves throughout this event. Considering we had a large contingent of students, 4 bikes and 4 teams, the whole event ran smoothly. We all had a great time and look forward to next year.
