We need all people to fill this hole caused by the attack of the enemy, to step up and protect our Church, to defend the faith and strengthen families. Our goal then is to offer multiple opportunities to baptized/unbaptized people so that they may personally encounter Jesus in the midst of His Church and will set more hearts on fire! We do not want anyone to get left behind or suffer from the lack of a personal relationship with Christ. We desire to draw all people into communion with the Lord, who gives ultimate meaning to our lives. I recall with fondness the ceremony of the light at the Easter Vigil. A smaller candle is lit from the Paschal Candle. The flame is then passed from one person to the next, throughout the congregation, until all of the people catch the living flame. At that time, the Light of Christ has passed to all the people in the church! This represents what our Lord desires: that the earth and all of its inhabitants will be enlivened with the fire the Holy Spirit. (con t on p.2)

This Week: Love is Generous

I am excited to announce that we will be

kicking off the Catholic Ministries

Appeal “Hearts on Fire” next weekend,

September 19th and 20th! Catholic

Ministries Appeal is replacing Fruitful Harvest. Its goal

is to set more hearts on fire, focus on the many

ministries being supported, and to be more accountable

and transparent with where your donations are being

used.

As Jesus said, “I have come to set the earth on fire

and how I wish it were already blazing.” I ask you to

join me in generously supporting the Catholic Ministries

Appeal so that countless others may catch the living

flame of faith or be set ablaze in it once again. It is time

to fill the breach or the gaping hole in the Church

through which many are leaving the faith. We need all

people to fill this hole caused by the attack of the enemy,

to step up and protect our Church, to defend the faith and

strengthen families.

Our goal then is to offer multiple opportunities to baptized/unbaptized people so that they may

personally encounter Jesus in the midst of His Church and will set more hearts on fire! We do not want anyone to get left behind or suffer from the

lack of a personal relationship with Christ. We desire to draw all people into communion with the Lord, who gives ultimate meaning to our lives.

I recall with fondness the ceremony of the light at the

Easter Vigil. A smaller candle is lit from the Paschal Candle. The flame

is then passed from one person to the next,

throughout the congregation, until all of the people catch the living flame. At that time, the Light of

Christ has passed to all the people in the church! This represents what our Lord desires: that the

earth and all of its inhabitants will be enlivened

with the fire the Holy Spirit. (con’t on p.2)

WAYS TO CONNECT

Natural Family Planning

Do you want to experience true freedom? Learn how to read the signs of your body and understand when you are fertile and infertile with Natural Family Planning.

No drugs needed. Now THAT’S true freedom! A series of classes is starting soon in your area. To find out more contact Susan and Louie Hoefer at [email protected] or 765.421.1998

Would you spend one hour of your life to pray that someone else’s life will be spared from abortion? Lafayette is again par-ticipating in a 40 Days For Life Campaign, and we have the oppor-tunity to make a difference.

It's very simple, really. And peaceful. And powerful. All that we need to do is to stand on the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood and pray.

This Fall's campaign runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 23rd through Sunday, November 1st. Head over to 40daysforlife.com, sign in or sign up and select an hour (or several hours)!

For more information please contact Tricia at 765-532-1221.

Movie Night:

Fatima

Join us on the lawn, to watch

Fatima on Friday, September 18th

at 8:20pm.

Bring lawn chairs/blankets and

snacks!

These flames are set ablaze through your generosity! None

of these ministries would be possible without you! Your

gift matters!

Please take a look at the ministries that the Catholic

Ministries Appeal supports and the chart also to see how

each dollar raised reaches out to help fill the breach of our

Church!

Come Holy Spirit…fire up!

Fr. Mark Walter, Pastor Donations cannot be directed to specific ministries

The Catholic Ministries Appeal (formerly Fruitful Harvest) will begin in our parish next weekend. Please bring your pledge card with you to Mass on Sept. 19/20 for commitment weekend. No pledge card? No problem! Ushers will be available throughout the church to assist you. This Appeal provides the opportunity for each of us within our parish to share in the good works of our diocesan family. By giving to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, you are helping to support programs across our diocese for our retired priests as well as

new seminarians, our youth, Newman Centers, deacons, prison ministry, pregnancy centers and so much more. Our parish family has been asked to raise $123,021. In order to reach our goal, I am asking each household to consider a gift that can be paid over the next 16 months.

Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need, may

they find consolation in your healing presence. May these special people find lasting health and deliverance, and so join us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through the

Lord Jesus who healed those who believed. Amen.
