FREE Dental

Screening at School

A dental screening is a quick assessment by a Registered Dental Hygienist who will take a look inside the child's mouth. A separate, sterilized mouth mirror is used for each child. If a child is identified, a form will be sent home and the parent may be contacted by a dental staff member. A re-screening may be required.

When: November 13-15, 2017 Grades: All Grades

If you DO NOT want your child to be screened, please visitwww.peelregion.ca/dental/schoolscreening or call 905-799-7700 extension 5622 by November 10, 2017

For more information, call Peel Public Health at 905-799-7700 ext. 5622

Zones of Regulation

At Westervelts we are working to regulate our emotions! Students are asked to think about what zone they are in and to use strategies to help them to manage their actions in each of the zones, Families may find it helpful to use the zones language at home.

Character Traits in Action In the month of October, we learned about ways we can show responsibility. At the end of the month the students in KC and 5B hosted an assembly to highlight this trait! Ms. Law’s class won the “Golden Boot” for showing great responsibility by keeping their classroom clean and the “Blue House” team were recognized for earning the most character points.

In the month of November, we will be learning ways we can show that we are caring. We Show We are Caring By - showing kindness towards people and other living things. -listening to and responding appropriately to the concerns of others. -helping others who are in need. -demonstrating empathy by recognizing -identifying with the feelings of others. -preserving and respecting the environment.

Progress Reports On November 10, all students will receive a Progress Report, that will speak to each student's strength and areas where further growth is required. Parents will also receive a notice inviting them to come for an interview to discuss their child’s progress on November 16 and 17. There will be no school for students on the 17th!

Food Drive Our school is participating in a food drive from November 13th to December 1st. Students are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items. The food that we collect will be donated to the neighbouring Food Banks. Some suggestions are:

● Pasta / Pasta Sauce ● Kraft Dinner ● Mr. Noodles ● Juice Boxes ● Pudding Cups / Fruit Cups ● Canned goods such as: Tuna, Soup,

Chick Peas, etc. ● Cereal ● Baby Food

Thank you for your support.

Supply Lunchroom Supervisors Needed! Westervelts is accepting applications for supply lunchroom supervisor. Supervisors monitor the students during the nutrition breaks (11:10-11:50 and 1:10-1:50) both indoors and outdoors. If you are interested in applying for this position please contact Mrs. Turner in the office to discuss the application process.

Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week The Peel District School Board will recognize Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week during the week of Nov. 20 to 24, 2017. Across the Peel Board, schools use many programs and initiatives to prevent bullying and to intervene when bullying happens. At Westervelts, we will continue to work in our classrooms to provide the students with clear and consistent messages through our character education instruction.

French Immersion If your child will be starting grade 1 in September 2018, one of the important choices you will make is whether you want to apply for the French Immersion (FI) program. What is the program like? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the program? One way to help answer these questions is to attend the information meeting on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017 at 7 p.m. at the French Immersion school your child would attend. To find out the FI school your child would attend:

● visit our website www.peelschools.org/French
