I want to thank the
membership for providing
your feedback on our up-
coming Christmas Party.
We are close to finalizing
the location, based on your
votes. All I can say is you
are in for an absolutely
fabulous time!
Thinking of us having a
great time, Lori Bean’s up-
coming May class will
give us all a chance to try
colored pencils . So, bring
your creative hat. I can
hardly wait to see what
everyone paints.
See everyone at the May
meeting.
Your Pres
Louise Godard
Hello Painters!
Spring is here ! At
least the blooming flowers
and warm weather, says it
is. And convention is just
around the corner.
Not to mention, that
everyone that tried
Zentangle found a new or
renewed themselves with
this fun art form. Peggy
Frieden thank you for
providing us with your
class and fostering such
great fellowship. Did you
know doodling could be so
much fun and could be
incorporated in so many
ways?
I am so pleased that we
have both old and new
faces joining our chapter.
As announced all members in
good standing as of March
31st are entitled to a free
Golda Rader Seminar.
Golda’s seminar will give us
a chance to further our
Zentangle skills. Your board
and I are working and plan-
ning a fun painting year!
May Half day will be col-ored pencil Iris with Lori Bean. Don’t miss this class—Lori does fantastic color pen-cil art. See page 6 for details. June will be our free semi-nar with Golda Radar. The projects chosen, surfaces ordered and waiting in antici-pation for this one. July and August brings us Jane Mayberry. At the July half day, she will be teaching
a darling scarecrow light and at the August all day will be a poinsettia pillow wrap which is beautiful. You won’t want to miss painting with Jane, she is such a giving teacher and you will learn so much. Our service project work-shop ha been moved to Sep-tember. Plans are being worked on and should be announced soon. We have a great line-up of
teachers and projects for you this year—don’t miss any of them!

To everyone who missed
the paint in/ice cream so-
cial/painter's garage sale:
"You blew it!" The paint-
ers had a great time, the
ice cream was yummy and
there were bargains ga-
lore! It was a way to chat
and paint and eat and shop,
a painter's dream and yes,
you missed it!
Since there was so very
little support of this fund
raiser, we will repeat the
sale at our July meeting
since the May meeting is
at the bank and room is
limited. So if you have
more items to donate to
the sale, bring them to the
July meeting and I will
price them and display
them for purchase.
If you have some great
ideas to help financially
support our club, please let
me or one of the other
board members know. We
seriously need your help
and support to continue on
with our programs.
Thanks again!

New Products from Deco-Art:
Metallic Lustre—a wax metallic finish. It is a paste to rub on most surfaces, then buff to brilliant
sheen. Good opaque coverage, water and fade resistant, intermixable. Remember the old “Rub
and Buff”?
Ink Effects: Transfer painted designs to fabric. Paint a design with transparent inks, iron onto
fabric. Adheres to most synthetic fabrics. No fading during laundering.
Paintable Textural Paste—Create dimensional designs with a firm yet flexible dimensional paste
that won’t crack or peal. Can be tinted when wet or painted when dry.
Ornament Glitter Adhesive – Add glitz to the inside of glass ornaments. Dries fast and crystal
clear to allow glitter to sparkle.
Deco art also has chalkboard paint; a chalkboard coating (dries clear on painted surface that can
be written on); Face & Body paint markers, for those of you that have kids or grandkids; and paint
adhesion medium to enable acrylic paint to adhere to slick surfaces.
Our May chapter educa-
tion program will be a
demonstration of how to
do Faux Finish. We are
Going to have a
professional "Faux Finish

several Faux finish tech-
niques. For those who
have done Faux Finish on

surfaces know how it will
enhance your paintings.

MORNING WORKSHOP PROJECT – May 12, 2012
Information and Supplies Project Name: Oriental Beauty Iris Originally published in Paintworks April 2011 Original Designer: Janelle Johnson Teacher: Lori Bean Contact Info for Questions: [email protected] 214-724-0210 cell Surface & Medium that will be used: Paper/Colored Pencils Supply cost: Picture and instructions will be provided at no
cost Supply Information: Paper - White paper to pencil the iris on. Either Janelle’s Handmade White Hemp Paper or mi-Teintes paper (available locally, Michaels or Hobby Lobby). Sample above was done on 4-1/2 x 8-1/2 piece. Prismacolor Pencils – Black Raspberry, Cream, Greyed Lavender, Lilac, Sky Blue Light, Yellow Ochre, Canary Yellow, Goldenrod, Indigo Blue, Moss Green, White. Optional: Colorless blender. Additional supplies needed: Tracing paper to trace your pattern on Stylus and worn graphite paper to transfer the pattern to the paper. Used graphite is better because you do not want
dark black pattern lines on your white paper. A handheld pencil sharpener and battery operated pencil sharpener (if you have one). Prismacolor makes a small
handheld sharpener and you can find it at Hobby Lobby. Or if you were at the retreat, you received a great sharp-ener with your watercolor pencil project.
3M Scotch Brand Transparent Tape for removing mistakes. 2” white bristle brush or any inexpensive new/clean paint brush. This is used to sweep away pencil crumbs without
smearing. Optional: a hard surface to put your project on, i.e. a clipboard or piece of Masonite. This allows you to pick up your
project, turn it around and work on it however you like. Or you can just work on it on the table. Prep (before class day): Sharpen your pencils with an electric pencil sharpener so that they are ready to go. Be sure to sharpen the end that does not include the color name! You’ll use the handheld sharpener in class to refresh your point without making a lot of noise.
That’s it! We’ll put the pattern on before we start class then relax and pencil our Iris!

Everyone at the March meeting wanted this recipe…ENJOY…Jane Mayberry
OATMEAL JAM BARS
1 cup softened butter
1 ½ cups of brown sugar
1ts. baking soda
1 ½ tsp. cinnamon
¾ tsp. nutmeg
1 ½ cups instant oats
½ rolled oats
1 cup crushed walnuts
1 ¾ cups of flour
1 cup fruit preserves, any flavor
The oats; you can use 2 cups of instant oats instead of adding the ½ cup rolled oats if
you choose. I like the texture of the rolled oats when they are baked!
Cream together the brown sugar and butter. Add the soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and nuts,
mix into the sugar/butter mixture. Mix in the flour and oats. Make sure all of the ingre-
dients are mixed evenly. Set aside ¾ cup of the mix. Evenly press the remainder of the
mix in a 9 by 13 inch baking dish. Make sure the corners and side are pressed in tight or
the bars well crumble when they are cut. Spread the 1 cup of preserves over the pressed
oats mixture. Crumble the ¾ cup oats mixture that was set aside evenly over the jelly.
Bake at 400% in a preheated oven 25 to 30 minutes until the top crumbles are golden.
Let the dish rest until completely cool. Cut into bars when cool.
Yellow Rose Chapter Members
One of our members who joined us last year is Donna Armstrong. After Donna
joined our chapter, she was elected as First Vice President in charge of member-
ship. Donna got right to work and has collected all of the member's information
that is necessary for member communications. Donna has organized our chapter's
roster and has made numerous changes to ensure the information is correct.
In addition to serving as membership chair, Donna has volunteered to lend a hand
to other board members when they need some help.
Donna Armstrong and the other chapter board members go beyond their jobs to
ensure the Yellow Rose Chapter meetings and activities are a pleasant experience.
A special thank you to all of our board members and chapter members who give so
much to our chapter.
