    Chapter 1Lena

    Greenwood

Hello! My name is Lena Greenwood and Im a sixth grader. I love

mysteries! Not that Ive been in one, but the books are nice. I

mean if you can bring me a mystery or adventure book thatsboring, Id eat my collection of the Secret Seven! Sometimes my

best friend in the whole world, Jessica Patterson and I get a nice

mystery book and try to solve the mystery.

Of course, I havent told you about her. More or less, shes like

me except she prefers writing stories a bit more than reading

    them whereas I prefer reading.

You know, in most books, if there are two best friends theyre

usually completely different with very few similarities. Its the

other way around with me and Jessica. Were completely alike

with few differences. Anyway Ive got a nice story for you to

read. You better like it. If you dont, Ill tell Waddiwassi to go

after you. You might be wondering who Waddiwassi is. Well, Im

not telling you now, so if you want to find out, youll have to read

my story! Ok so this how it starts

    *****

It was a day like any other when Lenas alarm clock rang. She

stopped it ringing and realized that she couldnt remember who or

where she was. So, she tried a feeble attempt at an old dialogue.

Who am I? Where am I? Lena said dramatically. Oh wait. I

remember! Im Lena Greenwood and Im in bed. she added killing

    the moment.

Lena brushed her teeth, combed her hair and went into the

    kitchen for some breakfast.

Mom! Breakfast! Im hungry! she hollered at the top of her

    voice.

Good morning to you too, Mrs. Greenwood said sarcastically,And dont shout like that, it is bad manners.

Sorry mom, Lena said in a sing-song voice, Wheres dad?

Your father left for his office ages ago. Hes got some important

    meeting, so he left early.

All right, then. Say, whats for breakfast? Im starving! Lenaasked.

The toasters broken so breakfast is cereal. Mrs. Greenwood

    answered handing Lena her breakfast.

Lena smiled and gobbled up her breakfast and hurried to the

    door.

Mom! Im going to school! Bye!

Lena walked to the bus stop where she found a horde of people

waiting for the bus. Some kids were looking absolutely delighted

while some, most of which were the nerds, looked completely

    disappointed.

Among the many faces, Lena saw one extremely familiar and

amused looking face with shoulder length, curly brown.

Jessica! Its me, Lena! she said with the air person who hadnt

seen their best friend for ages, which was true because of the

two month long summer vacation they had just had. Though, it

really didnt count considering that Jessica and Lena had just

    talked on the phone yesterday.

    Lena! Jessica screamed.

Why isnt anyone climbing onto the school bus? Lena asked.

Flat tyre. Mr. McCoy is replacing it now. Jessica replied

immediately. Mr. McCoy was their always grumpy school bus

    driver.

That explains why all the nerds look so unhappy and quite a lot of

people look happy. They must think that were not going to school, but theyre wrong. The teachers arent going to keep us away

from school on the first day! Lena exclaimed knowingly.

Yeah, definitely. Jessica said as she tried to figure out what

her friend had just uttered. You know, Ive started writing

    6/41

something that might turn out to be a book and inspire several

    generations to come!

Yeah. Sure. But on a more serious note, thats a good idea! Lena

    said, amused.

I was just joking about that. Though it might inspire a couple of

generations. The problem is, I need to do a bit of research and I

    might need your help.

Sure. Whatre friends for? But youll have to mention me in the

    acknowledgments. Lena slyly assured her.

Okay. Okay. Say, yesterday on the phone you said you havent

read a good book in a while? Jessica remembered.

    Mm-hmmm

Well, we could borrow a book at the library and do my research!

    Jessica suggested.

Lena beamed, Thats a great idea!

    Thanks, I---------

Jessica stopped abruptly because she just realized that she and

her best friend were the only people left off the bus.

Now if youre done chit-chattin youd see tha I fixed the tyre

an were waitin for you two cause youre makin us late for

    school. growled Mr. McCoy.

Lena and Jessica climbed onto the bus quickly and then Mr.

McCoy, still glaring at them, started the bus and they were off.

    Chapter 2At the Library

So when are we going to the library? Lena whispered as she did

the math sums her teacher had set the class.

How about this Saturday? Are you free? Jessica whispered

    back.

Im free until about six pm. Ive got to go out.

Okay, so how about two oclock? Meet me in the public library.

    said Jessica quietly.

    All right,

Now, now. No cheating over there. A loud voice came from thefront of the room, I have set these mathematical equations to

make sure that my class has not forgotten what I have taught you

over the summer holidays. Though, if you have forgotten, I will be

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    8/41

more than happy to help as I am sure I am more qualified in

mathematics than you lot. So, there will be no need to talk.

The dreaded voice was of their maths teacher, Mrs. Ridding.

Sorry, maam, both the girls said together in a sing song voice.

    *****

Whoa! The library is huge! Lena announced to no one in

particular. She was waiting for Jessica who she had spotted and

    was running towards.

Hey! I was looking for you. Cmon! Jessica said smiling broadly.

Ok. So well get me the book I need for my story first because I

know which book I need. Then, well get a book for both of us to

    read.

Fine. Lets go. Lena whispered as they had entered the largesqueaking door of the library.

After searching for about fifteen minutes, Jessica was happily

carrying a fat book with a dusty but otherwise new-looking cover.

Are you going to check that book out? Lena asked to which

Jessica just nodded. Then lets search for a book for us to

    read.

They searched and they searched but they couldnt find a book

which they both found interesting enough to read. Then suddenly

Jessica started running towards Lena clutching a book in her

    hand.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    9/41

How about this one? she asked.

She was showing Lena a book which looked roughly taken care of

and very old. It had a faded cover but the name of the book was

barely visible. It was covered by a layer of dust so Lena couldnt

read its name. It didnt seem to have an authors name written.

When Lena pointed this out, Jessica said, I know, I know. But not

having an authors name on the book makes it weird. And you and I

both know how much we love weird books.

    Youre right, I guess.

Then, sighing, Lena took the book from Jessica and went to the

    librarian to check it out.

    Chapter 3The Haunted

    Book

Lets go to my room! Its quieter there! Jessica yelled over the

sound of the vacuum cleaner as her mother was cleaning the living

    room.

    OK! Lena screamed back.

It was Sunday and Lena decided to go to Jessicas house and help

her with her story and maybe read the book they had borrowedfrom the library as she didnt do so yet because she wanted to

    read it with Jessica.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    11/41

Lena, since youve brought that library book and Ive finished

quite a bit of my story, we could read the borrowed book first

and then my story. said Jessica.

    Yeah, why not?

Right. So Ill get the book with my story in it. Jessica

replied as she picked up a notebook. A piece of paper fluttered

out and fell on the floor. Jessica picked it up and read it. She

    dropped it and screamed dramatically.

What happened? Does the paper have a warning from a ghost? Is

it a lottery ticket with the prize money of a million dollars? Lenaexclaimed.

No, no. Its about the geography homework we had to do!

    Jessica answered hysterically

Oh. But whats so scary about homework? Other than the fact

that the teachers give us some in our first week!

    I didnt do it!

    I did. Ill help you.

    Oh thank you!

No problem. So, we have to find a few places in New York, right?

Take out a map. said Lena.

Jessica took one out and they were done in fifteen minutes flat.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    12/41

Good. So theres Tupper Lake or, as it was formerly known,

Altamont, Kingston and whats that place called? Jessica

asked looking at her finished homework.

Phelps. Its called Phelps. Now lets start reading. replied Lena.

    What? Jessica asked.

    The library book. Remember?

    Oh yeah!

Lena opened the book. Very old fashioned letters stared at them

    spelling-----------

    The Haunted Book

The Haunted Book. Arent houses or people usually haunted? I

never knew books could be haunted! Lena laughed.

The air which surrounded them suddenly became very cold, which

was weird considering that this was a very hot day.

Both the girls gulped and turned the page. They started reading

    aloud.

    Chapter 1

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    13/41

You must have heard of hauntedhouses and haunted people. Somepeople believe that those are theonly things that can be haunted. They are fools. Being hauntedmeans that an object is the homeof any magical creature fromghosts to monsters to harmlessfairies. Why, even a toothbrushcan be haunted! But an objectcannot be haunted by a happycreature. The creature will have tobe unhappy. The only way to un-haunt an object is to free thecreature inside by making ithappy. Genies are the easiest tofree, even easier than freeingfairies as fairies are small and hardto see. To free a genie who ishaunting an object, you have tosolve his problem. Female geniesare extremely rare. When you opena haunted object with a genieinside, the genie will act as allgenies do. It will offer you two

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    14/41

wishes. Not three wishes like thosesilly fairytales say, but two wishes.Genies get highly offended andupset if you refuse to take the twowishes. If you wish (pun notintended) to un-haunt your object, you should make the genie happyand so should accept your wishespolitely. After your wishes arefulfilled, gently try to find out whythe genie is unhappy and solve thegenies problem. After the problemis solved the genie will leave, happily, thus un-haunting yourobject!

The chapter ended there. The girls looked at each other. It was

one of the weirdest books they had read. And they had read quite

    a lot of books.

That was interesting. Lena started awkwardly.

I liked it. Should we continue? Jessica asked looking at her

    bedside table.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    15/41

Ive got to go at five o clock. Its just 3:30 pm. We could

    continue.

Whoa! One and a half hours left! Lets go get something to eat.

That way we can eat and read.

    Fine by me. Lena replied.

When they got a packet of chips they went back to Jessicas

room and saw her map of New York on the floor.

You better put that in your bag so that it doesnt fly away. saidLena looking at the map on the floor.

    Youre right. Hey!

    Whats wrong?

Did you mark Phelps or did I?

Loss of memory? Lena joked. You did. I marked Kingston. You

even wrote the name on the map.

Then did you rub of the first and last letter from Phelps?

No, why would I? Anyway if you rub it off, you get------

    Help,

    Well, yeah. said Lena hesitantly.

Ill just add the letters back. It doesnt really matter.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    16/41

Lets get back to the book. said Jessica.

    Lena nodded.

They turned the page and stared at it. It wasnt what they had

    expected.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    17/41

    Chapter 4The Haunter

There it was. In the second chapter. Of course, first there was asentence. A mere sentence. The girls read it aloud again.

    Chapter 2

    The magical creature that haunts

an object is called a haunter. Then below that sentence there was a picture. A picture of a

genie. It was purple and had a misty vapour like substance instead

of legs. Other than that, the genie looked like a human being. If

it were a picture of a human being, the girls thought that first of

all it would be a man, and he would be the age of their parents. In

the picture, the genie looked thin, had short hair, a misty sort of

yellow pants, a light blue T-shirt and many rings.

Lena and Jessica thought the picture was weird and that there

will be more of the second chapter on the next pages. However

they could not have been more wrong. They turned the pages, one

by one and reached the end of the fat book. There was no more

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    18/41

writing on the pages. Other than a couple of sentences in the

first chapter and the single sentence in the second chapter and

the title of the book, there was nothing else.

Un-be-liev-able. said Jessica pausing at every syllable.

    What a rip-off! Lena yelled.

Maybe we should ask the librarian. suggested Jessica.

    Yeah. Maybe.

Jessica stared at the picture of the genie. He was looking sad.

    Suddenly an idea struck her.

    Maybe this book is haunted!

As if waiting for her to say, the picture of the genie was no

longer a picture. The genie had come out of the book in a puff of

    green smoke.

Lenas eyes were wide open with shock.

    Jessicas mouth was hanging open.

Hey. Thanks for letting me out. Ive been haunting that book for

years. Im a haunter. said the genie.

    Youre real? Lena asked faintly.

    Of course I am.

Slowly getting over the shock, the girls somehow managed to

    smile weakly to the genie.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    19/41

So um, whats your name? It isnt Mr. Genie, right? Jessica

    asked timidly.

Obviously not! the genie said, apparently offended.

My name is Lena and shes my best friend Jessica. Lena piped

    up.

Thy names Waddiwassi, kid. Say, are those potato chips?

    Waddiwassi asked.

The girls nodded. Jessica said, You can have one if you want.

Thanks. Then the genie grabbed the chips and gobbled it down,

    packet and all!

By the way, what year is it? he enquired.

    2011, the girls said together.

Hmm I turned five hundred and fifty one without even

knowing. said Waddiwassi in a gentle voice. So, since I offer two

wishes, Ill give you both one each.

Whatre you talking about? Lena blurted.

? Oh. My age. Im five hundred and-----

No, no. What do you mean you offer two wishes? Lena

    interrupted.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    20/41

Well, Im a genie, arent I? Genies fulfill two wishes but there

are two of you and only one of me. Thats why I said that you get

only one wish each. explained Waddiwassi. And no wishing for

more wishes or taking back wishes that have been wished.

Wow! So we can wish for anything! Jessica said excitedly.

Yup. Except more wishes and taking back wishes. reminded

    Waddiwassi nodding his head.

Could we ask for our wishes later? Lena asked.

Im already five hundred and fifty two. I can wait for a couple

    more hours or days.

Good. Lena and I should discuss this. said Jessica.

Im supposed to go so that you can discuss about your wishes?

    the genie intervened.

That would be nice. Yes. Lena answered.

Humph. Fine. said the genie grumpily.

Waddiwassi then vanished with a soft poof and a lot of green

    smoke.

Right. So, what should we wish for? Jessica asked when the

    genie had gone.

I have no idea. Lena replied.

    Chapter 5

    The Wish ThatWasnt

Maybe we should wish for Waddiwassi to tell us good wishes.mumbled Jessica thoroughly irritated.

You know, Ive been thinking about it and I thought we should

get over with it and wish for something stupid like a glass of

water. Just so we can stop him haunting that book. Lena

    suggested.

We could, but that would be losing a chance of a lifetime. Imean, how many genies do we know? Jessica interrupted.

Hmmm Youre right. We should think it over. Oh my god, its

4:45 pm. I should get going. Sorry we couldnt read youre book.

Well call or summon or whatever Waddiwassi at my house

    tomorrow afterschool. Okay? said Lena.

Right. Should I keep the book or are you going to?

Ive had enough of that book for one day. You keep it. said Lena

as she stuffed the book into Jessicas hands.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    22/41

See you tomorrow! Lena yelled as she walked past Jessicas now

    extra clean living room.

    Bye! Jessica screamed back.

    *****

It was Monday. The classes seemed longer and more boring than

ever. Time took double the time to pass. At least thats how Lena

and Jessica felt. Finally school was over and the girls got off the

    school bus at Lenas house.

Did you get the book? Lena asked at once.

    Yeah, its in my bag.

Hi Jessica! How are you? Lenas mother smiled popping out of

    nowhere.

    Hello Mrs. Greenwood. Im fine.

Mom, Jessica and I are going to my room to read a book we

borrowed from the library. informed Lena.

    All right.

Once they were in Lenas room she asked Jessica, Should we call

um summon Waddiwassi? Jessica just nodded her head. Shetook out the book from her bag and said loudly and confidently,

    This book is haunted!

There was a puff of green smoke and Waddiwassi was hovering

    over the book.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    23/41

Hey. Made your minds? Know what youre going to wish for?

    were Waddiwassis first words.

Say, Ive just remembered, was it you who did that weird thing

to Phelps on Jessicas map? Lena asked.

Hey! Yeah! I wanted to know that! Did you do it? Jessica

    exclaimed.

    Maybe. Maybe not.

Oh come on! pestered Lena, Just tell us!

Im here to give you two wishes. And thats what Ill do. Im not

going to answer these stupid questions.

I wish youd just tell us. Lena mumbled.

Ok then. It was me. Youre one wish down. said Waddiwassi.

Wait! No! I didnt mean that! I take it back. Lena shouted.

Oi! Keep your voice down! And I told you when I first met you.

No wishing for more wishes and no taking back a wish has been

    wished. Waddiwassi reminded.

Oh man! Anyway, Jessica, you better be careful when youre

wishing your wish. said Lena regretfully.

You bet! I cant let some stupid genie fool me! Jessica assured

    her.

Hello! Still in the room! Waddiwassi shouted offended.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    24/41

    Sorry, Jessica said apologetically.

    Could you----- Lena started.

Go away so you can, to use your word, discuss?

    Lena and Jessica simply nodded.

    Humph.

Another puff of green smoke and he was gone.

I dont like the idea of having a wish while you dont Jessica

    confessed immediately.

But you have one and I think you should use it. insisted Lena

    calmly.

You know, I dont think I have a wish. said Jessica thoughtfully.

Nothing? Oh come on, everyone has a wish!

Oh really? Whats your wish then? Jessica asked.

Mine? Lena asked as she got the image of her flying

gracefully above the clouds Then she thought that Jessica

might find her wish stupid. Nothing. I dont have a wish.

Ha! See, not everyone has a wish. Jessica said triumphantly.

Ok, ok. Then whatre you going to wish for?

You see, Im not able to get a good idea for my story. I was

thinking of wishing for an idea. Jessica said blushingly.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    25/41

Before Lena could answer, her mother shouted, Jessica! Your

moms come to pick you up!

I better go. You keep the book today. Bye! Jessica hurriedly

    whispered.

Bye! Lena whispered back to her friends retreating back.

    Chapter 6He cant

Lena and Jessica had decided that their secret about the bookand Waddiwassi had to remain a secret. One of the reasons was

that even if they told someone, who would believe them?

They had also decided to meet at Lenas house on Friday

afterschool as her parents would be out.

The weekdays passed by slower than ever. Finally, it was Friday

4:00 pm and Lena and Jessica were in Lenas room about to callWaddiwassi. The now familiar green smoke appeared.

No more maple syrup! Waddiwassi yelled.

    Excuse me? said Lena, surprised.

Sorry Nightmare I was asleep. I mean, you try and see

how scary it is to dream about a pancake That has too much

maple syrup Its absolutely terrifying said Waddiwassi,

    panting.

Sure. Right. Definitely. Well take your word for it.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    27/41

It was scary, ok! said Waddiwassi defensively.

    Sure it was.

Ok. Just tell me your wish, and then I can go to sleep.

Right. So, I havent been able to write a good story as I dont

have a good idea. So, I wish that I get a good idea so I can

write a good book. Jessica breathed as she finally wished her

    wish.

What the girls had been expecting was a flash of light and

Jessica suddenly getting a brilliant idea and starting to write

it down. However, they had not expected Waddiwassi to start

    crying. Loudly. Veryloudly.

What------? Calm down, Waddiwassi! Whats wrong? said the

    completely bewildered Lena.

Why are you crying? Come on you can tell us! said Jessica

    gently.

Slowly Waddiwassi stopped crying and calmed down a bit.

    I (sniff)cant

What cant you do? said Lena soothingly.

    I (sniff) c-c-cant do it.

    What?

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    28/41

    Your wish. he said softly.

You cant. said Jessica. But why?

I cant even finish writing my own dreaded stories. How do

expect me to help you? sobbed Waddiwassi.

    Genies write stories? asked Lena.

Of course we do. Not just genies, but fairies, monsters and

ghosts too. Dont tell me you havent heard of Little Fairy

Blyton, Miss Misty Rowling the genie, Spear the spooky ghostand, my favourite, Dickens the dangerous monster.

Never heard of them. Lena answered.

Neither have I. said Jessica. Anyway, are you a genie

    author?

Yes. But I am a big failure at that. I have never been able tocomplete any book, but usually I reach the fifth chapter. I

wrote The Haunted Book. I could do only one chapter! Its

been my worst yet. I wanted to make a nice long story on a

ghost-haunted book in an old building. A very poor normal

human kid and his poor mum go and live in the old building. The

kid sets the ghost free and they become friends. Somehow the

ghost helps the kid and makes him rich. Then comes the happily

ever after and the The End. As I got depressed when Icouldnt write my book, I started haunting it because I was so

    sad.

But- but youre not a failure. You just told us such a long

story! Why dont you just write it down? asked Lena.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    29/41

Exactly! Why didnt you? repeated Jessica.

I-I-I got tired of writing. Genies have to write hand-written

books. Its soooo tiring. We dont write on complutors.

You got tired. Lena repeated. And its called a computer. Not

    a complutor.

Thats it! Waddiwassi, can you remain here without your

    book? asked Jessica excitedly.

    Yes. Why?

Good. said Jessica ignoring his question.

She got up picked up the library book, a pencil and eraser and

left the room. Before shutting the door, she yelled, You guys

stay here. Dont come out until I tell you to!

    Chapter 7The Happy

    Haunter

What do you think shes going to do?

Dont have a clue. Is that ludo?

    Yes.

    Oooohhhhh! Can we play?

    No.

Lena and Waddiwassi were waiting for Jessica to come back.

True to their word, they stayed in Lenas room. Waddiwassi

was irritating Lena by bobbing up and down across the room

and pointing at things and asking what they were.

You know, theres genie ludo too. Could I just open your set to

    see the differences? Waddiwassi pleaded.

    31/41

    No.

    Please?

    No.

    Pretty please?

    No!

Pretty please with a fairy on top?

    NO!

    Aw, come on!

    FINE! Go ahead!

Oooohhhhh! Thanks! said Waddiwassi as he opened the box.

Hey! You guys have blue, yellow, red and green. How boring!

Genie ludo has silver, gold, metallic purple and metallic blue!

While Waddiwassi was examining Lenas ludo set, Lena was

thinking seriously. What might Jessica be doing? Why did she

act so weirdly? What could be her plan? So many questions,

    such-----

A loud popping noise brought her to her senses. She turned

around to see Waddiwassi holding red dust which looked oddlylike the die from her ludo set.

What did you do to the die? Lena demanded.

I was just trying to make them fly like the ones in genie ludo!

I didnt mean to make them blow up!

Lena was about to make an angry retort but was distracted by

the opening of her bedroom door. Her best friend was standing

    in its frame.

    Jessica! Finally! Lena shouted.

Oh. Youre back are you? said Waddiwassi looking up from the

    ludo set.

Yes. And youre problems of not completing at least one story

    is over.

No. I havent finished The Haunted Book yet. Waddiwassi

    interrupted.

No, no you havent. I have. Jessica agreed.

    You what! Lena exclaimed.

    Look.

Jessica showed Waddiwassis book and fluttered through the

pages. They were filled with handwriting!

    How---? the bewildered genie started.

I wrote all of it. Well, except for the first chapter and a

    sentence in the second chapter.

But then its not my book, its yours! Waddiwassi complained.

  • 8/6/2019 Waddiwassi and His Book

    33/41

No. None of it is mine. I never thought of it. I never could

have. Its about a ghost-haunted book in an old building. A very

poor normal human kid and his poor mum go and live in the old

building. The kid sets the ghost free and they become friends.

Somehow the ghost helps the kid and makes him rich. Then

comes the happily ever after and the The End. said Jessica

    happily.

That sounds familiar Oh, wait. I said it. Waddiwassi

    remembered.

But how did you manage to do it so fast? Lena whispered toJessica.

I didnt write it by hand. I just used a cursive font! Jessica

whispered. But Waddiwassi doesnt need to know that.

Thank you! Waddiwassi hugged them so tightly that they

couldnt breathe. Youve made me happier than Ive been in all

five hundred and fifty two years of my life!

There was a puff of smoke. Not the usual green. But golden

smoke. He was gone. Waddiwassi was gone. The Haunted

Books cover was no longer faded. It was a bright red with its

name in gold. Below that, there were the words Author-

Waddiwassi the genie. They turned the page. There were the

acknowledgments. Under that title, there were two names.

    Lena Greenwood and Jessica Stephens.

    Chapter 8The Letter

It was Saturday. Lena and Jessica were at the park opposite

Lenas house. Jessica had called Lena and told her to meet her

at the park because she had something important to tell her.

    Hey Jessica!

Hi Lena! Ive got to tell you about a weird dream last night!

Whoa! Even I had a weird dream last night!

Slowly Jessica told Lena about her whole dream. After a lot of

silence, Lena said excitedly, I had the exact same dream!

    But how?

Maybe it wasnt a dream? Lena suggested.

Oh come on! A realgenie? One that blows up dice and tries to

write stories but cant complete them? said Jessica

    realistically.

I guess youre right. said Lena.

    But can we be sure?

    We can! Come on!

    Where? Jessica asked.

    My house!

They ran out of the park and didnt stop till they reached

    Lenas house.

    Come on, my room!

There it was, on her bed. The book with the bright red cover. The Haunted Book. And below that the authors name.

Waddiwassi the genie. The next page was the

    acknowledgments. Their names were there.

So it was all real? asked Jessica faintly.

Lena didnt answer. She had just remembered something. She

took her ludo set. She opened it and saw one new looking reddie. She picked it up and rolled. Instead of rolling on the floor,

    it started flying.

    Like genie dice. Lena murmured.

On the floor there was a piece of paper. Lena picked it up and

then she and Jessica started reading it aloud. It was in

    Waddiwassis handwriting.

    for years. Im ahaunter.

Lena and Jessica are the best offriends leading a fairly normallife. That, of course, was untilthey went to the library andchecked out a book. Nothing

unusual about that. Its just thatthe book they chose was

unusual. I mean, there arent toomany books with genies in them, right? Ill say no more about thatthough. Just read the book. Youll
