Waging War on SIn
Romans 1:28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge
God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do
what ought not to be done.
Jer 17:9 The heart is more
deceitful than all else And is desperately
sick; Who can understand it?
It’s one thing for sin to live in us; it’s another for us to live in sin.
- John Murray
1 Cor 6:19-20 do you not know that your body
is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your
own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your
body.
1 Cor. 2:2 For I decided to know
nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
James 1:14-15 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed
by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives
birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
James 4:1 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among
you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war
within you?
Mark 14:3-9 While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in
the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money
given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly. “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are
you bothering her?
She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, and
you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. Truly I
tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done
will also be told, in memory of her.”
Matt. 6:24 Do not love the world or the things in the world.
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Matt 13:44 The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a
field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy
he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Find the things that stir your affections for Christ and saturate your life in them. Find the things that rob you of that affection and walk away from them. That’s the Christian life as easy as I can explain it for you.”
- Matt Chandler
Labor, therefore, to fill your hearts with the cross of Christ that there may be no room for sin.
